Old picture from my old phone, but iPhone's camera is fucking terrible so I'll just use this one. Changed things: got rid of composite cables for HDMI since my cable provider are jews and didn't, bought a PS3 and a 360, moved my 25.5" Samsung LCD in to use the TV for consoles, wall mounted my speakers (Logitech Z-5500) and TV. PC specs: 768MB 8800GTX, E6600 @3GHz on air, 2 GB Corsair XMS2 Pro, XP Pro, finally bought an Optimus Maximus keyboard and relegated my G15 to console use. TV is a 1080p Sharp Aquos (32"), was thinking about upgrading my PC but eh; I don't play anything besides FFXI so :z 5 dollars if you can guess whats on the screen.

How do you like running FFXI on your HDTV LCD? I setup my MacMini on it and it seemed like I lost quiet a bit of quality not in FFXI but just for regular movies and iTunes stuff.

Are you going straight from DVI/VGA to HDMI or are you using something else?

Heh, I think I saw you post that setup on AVS, GraveRobberX. I'll bump this thread in a month or so when I build my new PC.

DVI to HDMI, I've used a ton of monitors in the past and my HDTV gives me better quality than any other monitor I've ever used before for everything, but a major difference may be that I only download HD content, mostly 1080p, some 720p for things that aren't available in 1080p, the quality is pretty low for non-HD media though.

How do you think FFXI with HDMI + HDTV LCD looks compared to using a standard LCD monitor?

Do the controls lag at all?

Much better, I use FFXISwitchmon for dualboxing and often have a side by side comparison of my HDTV and my 25.5" Samsung LCD, the colors are much more vibrant and items have much more detail. Not sure what you mean about the controls, its the same for both.

I wish I had half a clue on how to build your own PC. I always hear nothing but good things game-wise from people who do so.

and defiantly, yeah much better to build your own PC, the one I own currently is pretty much same PC ive' owned for about 9 years... it just keeps getting upgraded. Most recently is the video card, should last a good 2 year ish!

It's really not that hard to do, pretty much your first build is going to be trial and error anyways. Your always going to get the same components each time. Compatibility isnt even really an issue anymore since everything pretty much works well with each other.

Best thing to do is start buy shit from New Egg and start screwing it down.

Camera might be dead (friend left it out in the rain), so I'll see if I can figure out the stupid camera in my new Blackjack II later...

    Anyhoo...

    Gaming rig:
Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.51GHz (need to up voltage a touch more to be stable at 3.6, I think)
    2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066, 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2V
    Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 motherboard
    eVGA nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX
Creative Audigy 2 Platinum (old, but still good)
    150 GB Raptor
    2x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
    Lite-On Light Scribe DVD-RW
    Corsair HX-620 modular PSU
Tuniq Tower 120 HSF, stock fan replaced with Scythe S-Flex fan
    Antec P182 case
ViewSonic graphics series 20" widescreen LCD (1680x1050)
    Toshiba 17" LCD (1280x1024)
    Ideazon Merc STEALTH keyboard
    Logitech G5 laser mouse
    Sony MDR-7506 studio headphones
    Windows XP Pro, 32bit

    Media Center PC:
Intel Core 2 Quad E6600 (stock speed, HSF)
    3GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800, 4-4-4-12 (was 2x 2GB kit, with 1 bad stick)
    Gigabyte P35C-DS3R motherboard
    eVGA nVidia GeForce 8800 GT
    Lite-On Combo Drive
    Lite-On DVD burner
2x 400GB WD Caviar (latest revision) HDDs
    Antec TruePower Trio 550W PSU
    Lian-Li PC60 case, black
    Logitech MX3000 wireless keyboard/mouse combo
    Windows Vista Ultimate, 32 bit
Currently using my Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV as monitor, with component video out (1080i, but will migrate to HDMI and 1080p when I have time) and digital coax audio cable from onboard audio to Yamaha receiver

    Thoughts...
    1) Moar clocks on gaming rig CPU, I want stable 3.9 but I don't think it's going to happen
    2) Use 17" LCD as secondary display for media center PC, move 20" LCD to home office, get a pair of new, identical LCDs for gaming rig (22-30" widescreens probably) and mount on Ergotron monitor arms
    3) Moar RAM for gaming rig eventually, but finding new Dominator kits that take 2.2V instead of 2.1V might be difficult (don't want to undervolt or overvolt 1 pair of RAM sticks)
    4) Possible OS migration to 64 bit?

Eh, I've been really pleased with the Dominator, the problem is just that the newer parts are spec'd for 2.1V to get 5-5-5-15 timings at DDR2-1066, and I have an older revision that is spec'd for 2.2V.

I'm confident I could just overvolt the 2.1V chips to 2.2V, but I generally don't like zapping chips more than necessary, no sense shortening their lifespan.

Until I upgrade the gaming PC to a 64 bit OS, it's fairly moot anyway, since they only come in 2GB kits and I don't feel like paying for ~768MB of premium RAM I can't address.

I don't have any pictures of my setup right now because it's SO messy, but the specs of my computer at the moment are:

Intel C2D E6600 (stock speed (too lazy to learn how to OC, but I want to do it), Scythe Ninja HSF)
    ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard
    4GB OCZ DDR2-800 RAM
    320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 HDD
    500GB Lacie external HDD
ATI Radeon X1950XT (Zalman GPU cooler)
    NEC DVD/CD burner
    OCZ 600w GameXStream PSU
    Antec P180 case
    Creative Audigy XtremeGamer sound card
    Logitech G15 keyboard (first version)
    Logitech G5 mouse (first version)
    Altec Lansing VS4121 2.1 speakers
    LG 204WT 20.1" WS LCD
Sharp Aquos 42" LCD (64U) secondary display (used for HD movie playback)

I want to build a new rig (this one is only a year and a half old) for... well, just for fun honestly. =D I'd use it for 2boxing in XI instead of using PS2 and random other stuff, then format and sell it off. I mainly want to learn how to OC this CPU to get the most I can out of it. If I can, I'd probably upgrade CPU coolers to an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 or something, and my video card to a HD4870 and just keep this PC going.

    EDIT: I swear I didn't tidy up >_>

Wow perfect timing for me to find this thread. I have a kind of old laptop and am wondering what do you guys that play on laptops use as laptop coolers? I had a cooler with 2 fans, it was plastic, and today it broke. I'm looking to get a new one tomorrow and was wondering if you had any recommendations?
