Teh Fay is coming. I'm sure it will be lame...but yeah. Being a homeowner in FL is skery.

You think it's bad now, wait until someone dies from the hurricane and televangelists blame it on gays and liberals.
Only to be embraced at the next Republican National Convention.
Edit: The televangelists will be embraced, not the homos and libs.
Only in airport bathrooms.
I can see the headlines now 'REPUBLICAN SENATOR CAUGHT HUGGING A LIBERAL IN FLORIDA AIRPORT.'
It's only going to be a category 1 hurricane by the time it hits the keys. Once it hits land, it'll be downgraded to a pussy tropical storm which is otherwise known as summer showers here in Florida.
Luckily we're apparently saved by Jesus (or so the crazy people up here would have you believe). Tallahassee seems to always avoid the heavy stuff by just enough to where it's rain onry.
I hope it picks up, I don't want to work tomorrow.
The Towne Center I work at is closed tomorrow but no, for some fucked reason Borders can't be. Gotta drive those books to the non existant shoppers.
Midterms cancelled, what's to dislike? I get a free day off from school. If my net goes out though, I'm gonna be busting heads.
The only thing about it that sucks is that I might not have to go to work tomorrow, which normally wouldn't be a terrible thing, but I need the money. >![]()
Someone please slap me next time I get the urge to leave the house the day before a big storm comes in. ><
I'm cool with it. School is canceled for tomorrow, which works out well for me because I'm sort of sick right now.
SHUT UP, LOSER.
Anyhow, yeah. They are now projecting it'll only be a TS when it hits us. Dagnabit. As long as the winds are over 40mph and the bridges are closed, I may be able to skip out on a few hours of work in the morning. PRZ!!!
Note: Hurricanes are not actually why I hate Florida. It was just to match branch off of the Texas thread. To be honest, I hate Florida because English is not the primary language...among other crap.
I hated living in Florida because I lived there the year Red Tide was in. Storms and hurricanes are a problem too, yeah... I guess...
i rode out a cat 3 hurricane a few years back in SW Florida. got really drunk and ran around outside in the torrential rains and very gusty winds. A couple of hours later it really picked up, I opened the front door to take a look (we had put up steel storm shutters on all the windows) and it looked exactly like the shit you see on weather disaster shows. palm trees barely keeping from buckling, horizontal and sometimes up-flowing sheets of rain. it was pretty awesome, in every sense of the word - it was pretty cool to be in and see, it was awe-inspiring, and it was scary and humbling. Nature can really stir up some shit.
it bent a steel lamp-post in half, that was kinda cool.
worst part was not having power for the next 3 days, and 4-6 of your neighbors (gated community) have generators running around the clock. THAT shit got old fast. Toss in chef boyardee heated over a sterno and going to bed at 8:30 cause the sun has set. it's like going on a shitty camping trip except you're in your house and none of your neat electronic devices work, including the AC. although it was mercifully cool (50-60F) for the following week, which is not unusual as I understand. I did get some reading done at least.
best part was getting laid in the middle of the hurricane (no gf). although we almost suffered heat stroke due to the house being boarded up and the AC being inoperable.
A+ would do again but I would pay someone to put up the shutters, and I'd have a generator.
I would never want to be in a stronger storm though. Shit is real.
One of my fonder memories from living in Florida.
I forget which hurricane it was, but my house is like in the way back of my development. So theres no other houses behind us to shield the rain/wind. During one T2+ storm the water was freaking seaping through the doors/windows because it was coming down so hard.
My whole family had to take turns mopping up all the water that was getting inside. I felt like I was in a movie or something trying to prevent a ship from sinking in a violent storm.
Hurricanes are fun as hell until they go away and you have no power for days.
