    Speakers

First time posting out of FFXI discussion. I hope I don't get forum raped. Anyway... I'm tired of listening to all sorts of bass-y shit on the speakers that came with my computer. Does anyone have a/some suggestions for a good set of speakers + subwoofer? Looking for something in the sub-$300 range. Thanks. :]

logitech. don't go over 150$ unless you're planning on dropping a grand on bose. that's just my opinion, though. 149.99 got my a great 5.1 sound system with a really kick ass sub.

I'm running the Logitech z5300e 5.1 system and I absolutely love it. A few of my buddies are running the same set as I have and they love it as well. Here's the link to amazon to check the specs. If you go for this system I guarantee you won't be disappointed at all.

Logitech doesn't know how to make treble that sounds worth a damn. All of their high-range speakers sound cheap.

Look for the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system, bass that will knock your boots off and very solid high/mid range. Runs about $150 retail but can get for less through froogle/pricegrabber.

Edit: This system also has an inline 2nd input so you can pipe music in separately from your ipod or w/e, and an easily accessible headphone jack that cuts off all the sound from the speakers if you happen to need that (you'd be surprised how many speaker sets have headphone jacks but won't cut the sound).

Don't drop money on Bose, period. You're paying for 90% brand name and 10% sound. For a computer setup, I'll second the Logitech system. Klipsch is also quality stuff.

I'll second the Klipsch. Their stuff is THX stamped, at least the ProMedia is. I will note that I had a problem with their 4.1 system, in that the thing stopped turning on after a year or so. It was intermittent at first, but then it just stopped altogether one day. (Yes I checked the fuse, it was fine, and there was mains voltage going into the power supply board. I cracked it open to check with my multimeter.) I would imagine they've fixed any issues like this, and it sounded amazing. If I gave much of a crap about sound, I would have bought another one. In my old age though, I just don't care that much anymore.

I just bought the z2300 logitech speakers

I don't have the room for a 5 speaker set up, so while conserving on space, these speakers kick ass. I'm really happy with them.

For computer speakers I would go with Klipsch or Logitech.

I third the NO on Bose thing. They are worthless.

If you had a larger budget I would just recommend setting up a regular home stereo system and just running an out to a receiver from your computer. It will sound much better.

The Logitech z5300's (in any form. They just update the look and controller, I can't remember any time they actually changed the specs) are your best bet until you're ready to lay down a lot more money for something far better.

Like I'm getting ready to do. :3

I stopped using speakers/audio cards a long time ago. Much more a fan of Sennheiser USB headsets these days, then again I'm usually listening to vent/music/anime that others in the house wouldn't want to listen to.

Another vote for Logitech desktop speakers. Their 2.1 units are very nice for the price. Unless you can properly position a 5.1 or 7.1 setup with the rear speakers behind you then I would just stick with a 2.1 and save the money.

I've had the Logitech Z-4's for a while and have been very happy.

    lolBose

I've actually been really happy lately using decent headphones (swapping between Sony MDR-7506s and Sennheiser HD-280 Pros), since I don't have a lot of time for FPS gaming and don't much need surround sound for anything else. All my movie-watching and whatnot is on the media center PC, which is hooked into my home stereo (and definitely is not sub-$300).

I've been happier in the past with Klipsch than Logitech, but either is decent. Easier to find Logitech for cheap, but better audio fidelity from Klipsch.

If anyone is seriously considering Bose for a high end audio system, they should just save themselves the trouble and go play in traffic.

I picked up some 2.1 Altec Lansing from staples for like 80$ a few weeks ago.

My PC music can play through my tv surround system, so no need for more than a 2.1 setup. These speakers were one of the best buy's I have made for my computer, I love them.
