they can be kinda hard to find but I'm a huge fan of "direct read" (also known as "jump hour") watches. They're analog, but instead of hands moving around the dial you have an entire wheel that rotates for each unit. You read across the middle of the watch, instead of looking at the hands.

    Here's 2 examples:

    http://www.h-spot.net/watches/alpha-digi.jpg

the one I have it made by citizen, i bought it off ebay a few years back from japan. It's rounder, and you can see more of the numbers than just the very center.

They're not quite digital, but they're not quite analog-looking either (and easier to read), really sophisticated, and people comment on mine all the time.

    Check out eastbay.com

There's not a lot of watches that might be to your liking and I'm going to go ahead and say 95% of them will probably be Fossil (if that's a no for you), but who knows. I want a watch now too.

I think saying a good looking nice watch then setting the bar < $150 you just about filter out all watches, but depending on your taste in that range I like the look of Skagen watches: http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=12192898...elrybrowserel2

I'm somewhat biased on what I like in a watch though, some people like tons of shit on their watches, but I'm not one of those. I'm fairly set on this watch here, I just need to go check it out in person:

I'd prefer a watch with a bigger strap. I had surgery on my wrist last year after breaking both bones in my wrist and shattering five bones in my hand and now I have two scars that I'd like to cover up, but I can't really find any that I like.

For a dressier watch I'm very fond of this one, one of the three I wear myself. Seiko SNP017

http://www.nixonnow.com/ find some decent ones under 150 here.

have no non-metal ones. I personally love canvas and leather it's a little less showy Then again i only wear a watch when i have a suit on.

You could get this one, but you may get beat up for wearing it:

I usually go the cheap route, since I wear my watch at work and it gets beat up/scratched all the time. I just want it to last a couple years before I finally break the thing.

The binary ones are cool but it didn't seem to have a button to make it show normal time. The old binary one I got from that site had a button that switched from normal numbers/binary. Those just seem to be binary only.

The Suunto one is cool but I've always had a problem with watches that had plastic bands, especially ones attached like that. If/when they rip it's pretty much over.

Cheap and efficient. I've had Armitrons last years. They also have a self winding kinetic model for a little more.

I too share your pain as mine broke today 9/9/08.. and like you i was at 8 going on 9 years of owning this awesome watch... finding a replacement is seemingly impossible for me so far..

i dont need it to be a mirror but I do agree it has to have the option of a digital standard readout as well as some kind of geeky doo dad lol

thinkgeek has a watch that i was eyeing but im not certain yet about it because it lacks the digital display

    http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/watches/a8bc/

Feels like it would be very James Bond-ish XD

let me know if / when you have found a replacement and I will do the same for you

I personally wouldn't bother with the cellphone watch mostly just because you're going to look like a huge geek no matter how you use it. That and I like to have the full keyboard for text messaging as well as other features of a regular cell phone. As far as watches go, I use an Eddie Bauer with a leather wrist strap but before then I used a very spacey Fossil.

But clearly this is the one you should get.
