so many 'bama guys on here...kinda funny. (roll motherfuckin' tide btw...)

you can't ever say "the past doesn't matter"...it's college football, the reason we love it and people follow it so hardcore is because of tradition. i'm a huge bama fan and a big army fan as well because i was enlisted and love their tradition as well...even though they suck hardcore. lol

we had the number one recruiting class in the nation this off season, but that doesn't mean we'll be great this year. i see it being a couple years before everything comes into place. i'm anxious to see Starr Jackson throwing to Julio Jones though.

i cheer for every SEC team 'till they play us, and would like for auburn to go undefeated 'till they play us every year...just makes us look better as a state and a team. the last 6-10 years have been rough in tuscaloosa, but i think they've turned it around and are heading in the right direction. can't wait for the clemson game...gonna be a hell of a start to the season.

Good stuff, noblemountain. See? You're the type of Alabama fan I like talking with and such. You aren't all uppity about your team's past and throw it in people's faces. That, and you actually think of what you're saying, and don't just search Stat sites and post what you find. xD

Starr Jackson and Julio Jones are gonna be good. I can feel it. John Parker Wilson is a good, talented QB, but it just depends on if he applies himself. As far as the top recruiting class... are you sure? I know you guys are Top 5, but #1? I dunno. Weren't you guys #3ish? Meh. Either way, you had a good recruiting year.

Say what you want about Weiss, he's had top recruiting classes every year. He consistently has the worst turnout of those recruits. Maybe it's bad coaching, but the recruiting is excellent.

edit: Only place I found bama as #1 was scout.com (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH rivals.com)

editx2: actually, rivals.com has bama at #1 too. I'd probably trust rivals.com over anyone.

The thing about Alabama and Bear is that Bear created a feeling of entitlement as far as the Crimson Tide went. Because he won SO much, there is this unreal expectation at the university and with the fan base to win, and they keep firing coaches when they don't measure up.

The thing that isn't being considered is that the game is so much different now than it was in the 60s and 70s. Bear Holy God Bryant couldn't win today like he did then. The rules are different, and he wouldn't be able to do the things he did.

During Bryant's tenure, Alabama recruited EVERYONE. The best way to win a football game is to recruit your competition's first string and sit them on your bench. The man recruited the entire Southeast, and beyond. This is exactly how Bryant played the game, because the University had deep pockets, and the rules were lax.

Can't play NCAA ball like that anymore, but the University still has that feeling of entitlement, that expectation of churning out a National Championship team every couple of years, and it just isn't going to happen, even if they hired God for a head coach and Jesus as offensive coordinator. The game is just too different now.

First, the grammar hammer in me is going nuts...his name is spelled Weis.

    Sorry, moving on...

Right now I think (or at am hoping) that we can attribute the shitty play to youth and inexperience. All these kids are used to being the biggest badass in their high school games and then they play D1 football and get a big reality check. Some kids can play exceptional still in their first years, but it is a rarity.

If there isn't some noticeable improvement this season, expect the ND alumni to start a "fire Weis" movement full force. Hell, after ND went to the Sugar Bowl (and got spanked by LSU) there were alumni that were already questioning Weis and after this season there are definitely much more as well. If it weren't for the monster recruiting classes him and his staff manage to pull down, his head would definitely be on a stake atm.

Ding, hit a pet peeve. People who correct the spellings of names. Who fucking cares, you know what I meant. I don't have all the time in the world to google every name I type on a forum, and i certainly don't give enough shit about weiss to know that his name only has one S. This is as bad as Akiyama hammering someone (I think himself lol) for misspelling "Hasselbeck". i think he used an "a" instead of "e"...like anyone actually gave 2 shits he did it wrong. So I'm sorry I misspelled henne, and sorry I mispelled Weis...

I predict my Buckeyes will make it back to the BCS title, and lose to another SEC team.

Rofl. Wow. Let me pull a Tyche then.

Ding. Hit a pet peeve. People who care about people who correct the spelling of names. Who fucking cares, you know what I mean.

Yeah. Just let it roll off of you. So I care about how I spell on the interwebs. Who gives two shits? Just ignore it if you have a problem. I just have to hammer people.

Weis/Weiss is an understandable mistake seeing as spellcheck actually underlines Weis and not Weiss. Hasselbeck is a bitch for me sometimes. I spell it "Hassleback" and "Hasselback" all the time.

I don't care if you care about how you spell, that's fine, but it get's pretty god damn annoying when someone says "OMG, THIS IS ANNOYING, IT HAS A Y, NOT AN E". Does it really drive you that nuts that people make an honest mistake by spelling by enunciation when it comes to names? I mean, mistakes like calling Chad Pennington "Chad Pendrington" or something equally incorrect. but c'mon, I added a god damn S to weiss and apparently drove someone nuts.

gets* How can "get" be possessive?

Yes. To some people, seeing a spelling of someone's name that is incorrect and done over, and over, and over again CAN drive people nuts. It's one of my major pet peeves. It's what happens when you win spelling bees and shit, and have it driven home that stuff should be spelled correctly. I don't even do it all the time. I tend to do it when A) person who spelled it incorrectly is getting on my nerves, or B) when it's commonly misspelled time and time again.

You took my little comment/correction way overboard. I wasn't cussing at the screen or posting that you were an idiot or anything because you made a simple mistake. It was just bugging me a bit so I made the quick comment.

I also find it funny that not only are you going overboard on it...you are continuing to misspell the name.

So, whatever, spell it Weiss, Wies, or Wiessszzz for all I care. If you are really going to let a friendly correction get under you skin that much, I can't really do anything about it but laugh.
