    Typing in Japanese

Not sure if this belongs here and this is probably a stupid question with an easy answer.

I'm using windows XP with SP2

My japanese just won't type out correctly anymore. I don't think out I changed anything in IME or anything. The letters will spell out but they won't be the letters they should be, ie.
    switching language to japanese and input to hiragana, typing out "hiragana" shows up as;
"くにすちきちみち" which is just totally wrong.
Before typing out "ya" would show up as や but now all the buttons have one letter assigned to them as opposed to having to type the "y" and "a" to spell out や. Now when I push button 7 it'll spell out や.

Hopefully someone gets my explanation lol ;; it's getting pretty annoying not to be able to type out japanese.

There's a keyboard shortcut that changes your key layout, so you could have hit that by mistake. You can fix that by going into the IME settings.

It sounds like you have it switched from Romaji Input to Kana Input. Go to the language bar, click on the strange red thingie (still haven't figured out what that's supposed to look like...) between the keyboard and the little "A" or "あ." Go to properties, general tab, change the drop down box next to "Input method:" so that it says "Romaji Input." That should fix your problem.

    Thanks CuddableKae That fixed it.

One more question though、it seems like I can't get it to type out kanjis. When I'm writing and push space to mark the word it'll just show out its hiragana/katakana/romanji outputs and not the kanji options. Have I possibly changed some other settings too?

You probably turned conversion off. Go back to the properties window, click on the Conversion tab, go to the drop down box next to "Conversion mode:" and select general. That should fix it.

I checked the conversion mode but it was already set to general.

I've had that happen to me too, but I'm not really sure what causes it. It seems to really only happen to me while using FFXI and Synergy, but I think yours is probably something else. I usually have to end up restarting FFXI to fix it...

Maybe your dictionaries aren't set up? Go to the Dictionary tab and see which system dictionaries are active.

In case you did not figure it out...

If you click this 'KANA' button, that enables and disables that input method. (i.e. The letter "K" on Japanese keyboards inputs の ひらがな would start with "vot.." etc.) This also impacts the conversion issue, so you really need to have it configured correctly, thus your problems above.

Generally, only older Japanese folks use this input method, so it's rarely used. If you can't see the language bar, just enable it in the regional settings. If you've got the little balloon icons, Right-click on it and choose "Restore the language bar."

    よろしくおねいがします。

    Thanks for your help guys

I got it to work later on by messing around with the dictionarysettings.
