I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it really feels like we, as a group, have TOTALLY pushed Mythic Weapons out of our minds when it comes to this update.

This, maybe with a little pride and faith mixed in. Somewhere along the line I think SE may have thought they might have made the monster a bit too hard to figure out, but at that point it had been out so long that they simply couldn't come out and say they fucked up and made AV too hard. Saying they messed up the most difficult encounters in the game makes them look bad so they maintained faith that we might someday figure things out if they gave us vague, no, extremely vague or unhelpful clues.Originally Posted by Rkenshin
What else do you really expect lol. They put alot of work into that update, but its unimportant when you look at older content that to this day is much more worthwhile then some of the newer content. They've realized it finally after this media frenzy and we'll see what changes they make. They're in a public's cross hairs now and I'm sure they wont make a stupid mistake considering the wording of the update news.
It's not just this shit, it's the Dynamis stuff, the new AF, and everything else we should have gotten a millennium ago.
Anyone else get the feeling that they'll just make the mobs rape even more now? ;o

o hi there
One lesson to learn from this? A little puke goes a long way.
God damn it, why did I laugh at that?
Translation : "The Enrichment Center is committed to the well being of all participants. Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all."The past two weeks have seen considerable feedback from players regarding the amount of time required to combat the Pandemonium Warden, a recently implemented Notorious Monster (NM). Discussion has spread significantly throughout forums, and it has become apparent that this is indeed an issue of major unrest in the community.
We would like to assure players that the development and management teams place a high value on their feedback, and the issue has since been taken under serious consideration. Together with Absolute Virtue, it has been deemed that the combative techniques for weakening these NMs are too difficult. As a result, some players have engaged these enemies using unanticipated methods which led to extended battle times. It is by no means the desire of the development team to see players involved in encounters that require an excessive amount of time and effort to complete. It was for this reason that previous measures were put into practice which prohibited NMs from being held in battle for prolonged periods. In response to these events, we have determined that further alterations are required to prevent such battles from exceeding a certain predetermined length of time.
Included in the version update scheduled for early September will be modifications to the degree of difficulty of Pandemonium Warden (and associated pets), Absolute Virtue (and associated pets), and Jailer of Love. The aim of these changes is to create battles where a decisive outcome may be reached within a shorter period of time.
The development and management teams would like to take this opportunity to express their commitment to a healthy and wholesome game environment for players everywhere to enjoy, and to thank them for the continued feedback.
And we all know the cake is a lie...
Just curious about a few things. Why is it now fact that the dev video took double digit hours? They fight JoL on windsday and AV on ice and lightningsday. The overwhelming consensus until very recently was they cheated to use SP abilities multiple times, not that the fight lasted long enough to use them several times. It was only after the very unofficial quote from Sundi that the video was thought to take 18 hours or whatever. When I first read that Sundi quote back when it was first posted in the summit write up, I truly read it as joking/ sarcasm. That was how it sounded. Now I have no idea how long the fight is supposed to take, but I see a lot of people citing speculation as hard fact. I may very well have missed something that confirms Sundi's statement or proves that the dev video is definitely longer than the three hours we have proof of. If this is the case, please correct me and point me to these confirmations.
I was thinking the oppisite of rage timer too.
Like after 2hrs and AV got his EXP Bands worth XP from killing your alliance he says:
Absolute Virtue: "Guys my router is acting weird"
Thn after about a min he red dots, and a few seconds later just disappears.
Then when the timer on his exp band is up he logs back in.
I think managing difficulty was what SE was going for with AV and the new PW. As others have said, new NMs nowadays usually get raped the day they come out and made into farming status that week. Ixion only took over 24 hours because people couldn't claim it correctly and that was about it.
That being said, I think this updated is needed, especially since AV has been out for 3 years and none of the kills seems to satisfy them. I remember doing a 11 hour AV myself (the day after wynavs killing method was patched but we didn't know this at the time) and it was such a grueling experience. I personally wouldn't mind the challenge of still messing with the current form, but it doesn't seem like it's good for the game as a whole.
The "perfect difficulty" mobs were the 4 CoP Wyrms + Bahamut V2 when they came out. I remember LSs would spend months trying repeatedly to kill them and it was a huge deal to every server (or in Vrtra's case, any server) when someone killed it for the first time. Of course they aren'tc considered too hard now, but they were truly difficult mobs back then. I think Ultima in Temenos is really well done as well. Nowadays, with all the game mechanics flushed out, it seems really difficult to produce mobs of that difficulty relative to the player base knowledge... hence we get things like PW.
I think what SE wants is a high end HNM that requires over an alliance to kill. CoP Wyrms were really the last things I can remember that really required this for reasonably long periods of time after coming out. Things now like Ixion get 6-manned within 1-2 months. It really shows the advancement of player knowledge, or perhaps the strength of certain items.
Difference between Ixion and AV: you don't have to spend hours farming items to spawn Ixion. If, in the span of three years, hundreds of players (and I'm deliberately low-balling it here) from around the world can't figure out the AV puzzle (the one that was designed when characters were relatively weaker) but can break a brand-new Ixion in less than a week, then maybe it's not because the players are stupid or lazy (a source no less than Kaeko has declared AV "impossible"), but because the puzzle itself is poorly designed by a small development team who refused to acknowledge just how idiotic their idea was until it made it to the press.
Regarding whether or not AV's intended to be an 18 hour fight, that all depends on what any supposed weakening mechanism does. If you could prevent Benediction and most of the common wiping moves, there's nothing inherent about the fight that would make it much longer than a wyrm or Kirin.
Honestly, for something like AV, if a weakening mechanism is in fact really in place, something as simple as removing the possibility to despawn would probably fix things. This is unrealistic for technical reasons, but it would mean that people could throw themselves at it whenever they felt like trying, like with world HNMs, without having to spend the additional hours just to keep spawning it every time. Same thing with PW, though unless there's some kind of double damage gimmick or something to deal with the ridiculous amount of combined HP you're dealing with, that wouldn't really do anything to shorten the fight. It would at least make it less punishing to try out different ideas though.
Let's hope whatever they do isn't completely moronic.
