lol i was gonna say this but you beat me to it..

I'm intrigued. I guess SE does bow to the pressure of bad press after all. Look forward to the changes. Hopefully it means regular AV and PW for better LS in the future. Would be great if they just became 'normal' killable HNMs..

It was only after the very unofficial quote from Sundi that the video was thought to take 18 hours or whatever. When I first read that Sundi quote back when it was first posted in the summit write up, I truly read it as joking/ sarcasm. That was how it sounded. Now I have no idea how long the fight is supposed to take, but I see a lot of people citing speculation as hard fact. I may very well have missed something that confirms Sundi's statement or proves that the dev video is definitely longer than the three hours we have proof of. If this is the case, please correct me and point me to these confirmations.
I'm sorry is this was already addressed and I missed it but... Has anyone taken another serious look at the AV videos for clues but this time taking into consideration that the fight could have actually taken them 10-18 hours? I think most of us all assumed that they were just cheating with dev tools to spam 2hours and that it only lasted a couple hours, but what if the time line in the video is in fact chronological and it spans over multiple "weeks" of vanadiel time?

IDK, probably nothing revolutionary but it's something to ponder.

I think what SE wants is a high end HNM that requires over an alliance to kill. CoP Wyrms were really the last things I can remember that really required this for reasonably long periods of time after coming out. Things now like Ixion get 6-manned within 1-2 months. It really shows the advancement of player knowledge, or perhaps the strength of certain items.
That'd be fine, just make harder world spawns instead of insanely difficult puzzle mobs that are at the top of a tedious farming ladder. A Vrtra 2.0 of sorts, with a fucking decent lootpool.

*Hint Hint SE* Finish the fucking Elemental Wyrm set.

I was dissapointed that Skyrend didnt get a Wind-based Wyrm =/

4Gamer just ran a short article about the Pandemonium issue and planned update.

The heart of the issue for North American players was that it took too much time to battle Pandemonium Warden.

There are certain Notorious Monsters that require players strictly follow special methods to weaken them. Apparently, these monsters were originally designed so that they would be impossibly strong unless properly weakened. However, the methods to weaken these monsters proved too difficult to execute, so players would drag out the fights, attempting to win through sheer perserverance, and extending battles far longer than the development team anticipated.

Square Enix has now announced they will adjust the difficulty of Pandemonium Warden and its pets, Absolute Virtue and its pets, and Jailer of Love. Weaking the monster becoming a necessity, rather than option, is a possibility as well, but all we know for sure is that Square Enix has decided to deal with this play issue.

Starting in September, these ultimate Notorious Monsters will be able to be defeated in a shorter amount of time. We think players will welcome any reduction to superfluous time spent battling or waiting around. Look forward to the update this September!
    and for fun

    FUCK YEAH!

I wandered up there, and thought "now THIS looks like a home for Dragons, not a cave or barren glacier or fucking hole in a tree..." and the closest thing so far is still that helm Wyvern....

That 4gamer article certainly sounds pretty condescending toward the players. Comments like 'too difficult to execute' and 'properly weakening the monsters' make it seem like we as players are the ones who are to blame for the mobs being unkillable and not the development team.

Cuz it isn't our fault?...and the idea that it IS our fault is what kept SE from fixing it all these years?

The best way to implement a monster than requires a shit load of people to kill is a system that rewards you for even trying. Thing is, SE's done that already...twice. They're called Dynamis Lord & Odin (they may not always require more than 18 people, but stick with me here). Not just a dynamis-like area, it would have to reward you for the time you spent there if only a handful of people would be getting the drops.

I think they were just echoing what Square Enix claims: that the monsters need to be weakened in some fashion. It sounded pretty matter-of-fact and not sarcastic or anything.

Pretty much everyone understood AV was a joke. There was a magazine article written about 2 months ago discussing AV. It had no mention of the hint video at all (probably since it was worthless) and instead talked about gathering a bunch of Rangers to take turns Shadowbinding. However, their three main strategies were "Endure," "Perservere," and "Try not to cry."

Combined with the reaction on the forums, I don't think people seriously thought these monsters were beatable.

except as glitched kills clearly demonstrated, the thing had a loot pool

why bother if it was never intended to be killed? same deal with PW, why bother making a pop NM and drops for it if you don't intend for it to be killed? look at dark rider: clearly not meant to be killed because it pops and depops completely randomly, takes no damage, casts death on anyone who aggros it, has no lootpool, and most importantly has an explanation for its plot armor.

Well, we should really define what we mean more clearly.
Certainly, it's meant to be killable, but it isn't beatable.
There is a point at which you can take it to 0 HP and reap the rewards, meaning it is killable. However, getting to that point is virtually impossible, so it isn't beatable.

SE thought as long as it was killable, it was beatable, but that's obviously not the case.

Square Enix intended it to be killed through whatever strange means they programmed.

I was referring more to the players/media to show Toth they probably empathized with us and weren't being condescending.
