You know how many people have had the same confidence about their unproved theories only for it not to work? I'm not bashing you or your idea or anything but it's just kind of silly to act like you know it for certain. It's one thing to have an idea or a theory, and there's nothing wrong with sharing it, but it's another to come and say with absolute confidence that you know how to beat it. Until you actually do or have some kind of proof of it working it doesn't really mean anything.
Also, back in the AV video thread an LS already had and attempted that idea. Whether or not they did it properly is impossible to tell, but it's not an original idea or the first time it was tried. And people first made observations of the "AV uses 2-hour" vs "AV readies 2-hour" back when it was beatable quite a long time ago. I have never seen nor have I ever read of AV doing anything other than "Absolute Virtue uses Hundred Fists." for that particular 2-hour, but to my memory all the other ones are always "AV readies..."
No one's being sensitive, people just think it's a bullshit response... What does it take to get some people here to accept that maybe they just made a mistake? Of course that article has no clue how the game and SE works, and I don't really care what they think (although I do care their thinking is influenced by SE's wording), but the people here do know the game and do know how SE works. It's especially annoying when so many people here complain about so much of 'what SE does wrong' on a regular basis (mind you, outside of this PW crap I almost never bash SE in public in any way like so many here), but suddenly it's not OK to point out their faults with the ultimate situation PW and AV created?
Years of people attempting new strategies, new tricks, a video made by SE, and just about anything not only individual groups but the community as a whole could come up with to beat an NM isn't enough to convince anyone that maybe they made just another mistake? Regardless of what the trick was it obviously wasn't within the realm of common sense on what to do in this game. And possibly even PW too, which they appeared to originally intend to have as more of an NM to be taken on by a few linkshells as opposed to just one (which they did mention wanting to see happen with NMs they implemented in the past). I mean AV was patched 2-3 times before it even started working as they 'wanted it to', which since made it undefeated.
So why is this concept of SE actually making a mistake suddenly so foreign to people? Fact remains thousands of exp, countless hours of time, millions of gil, and thousands of posts have been dedicated to these NMs with the world-wide FF community with absolutely no progress. Regardless of what the trick was or if there is one, all of that with no progress means there is something wrong.
Well, maybe we will see it killed after update, maybe not. I'm still pretty glad the media frenzy worked in a videogame's favor for once. and on a fairly worthwhile endeavor at that. Almost twightlight zonish if you ask me.
There is some mention of a link between Tonberries and sea/AV in missions at some point, couldn't pinpoint it for you. I recall the leader of BBQ, another LS on Odin, trying to figure out something in Pso'Xja because of it as some way to weaken AV.
Going to call BS on the Apathy guy, though; at least 2 fights after the video had people echoing AVs 2hrs, I'm certain of it - one where they used all 15 2hrs, and one where they would at least have one person do the same AV did, and as I recall, same 2hrs would be used again.
The link between Tonberry's and AV was the speech. They would use the Triple S.

as you already know AIR > ICE > THUNDER is the order of days.
the JoL clip is during windsday, all video of AV is during ice and thunder days.
if those characters were waiting 2 hours like we players must, that fight would have taken over 40 hours provided normal progress of vana time.
I don't know if I'd call it a link between tonberries and AV/sea.
Spoiler: show
That's it! Just active Bahamut's Avatar Gate while fighting Absolute Virtue, it's so simple!
I haven't really explored Pso'Xja in years, but iirc Fenrir is the 60 cap, carby is the 50 cap, diabolos (maw) is the 40 cap, Nue tower has no gate, I'm pretty sure phoenix is the capless closest to R. Pass, so yea, Bahamut is the useless one....or did I mix the last two up?....
Fuck, I'm curious now.
No, I have read all the old threads, what people were focusing on was 'readies' being 'reactionary' 2hr based on TP, and if it did this you were fucking up. I can tell you for 100% certainty that no one in the game has done this example: 'Absolute Virtue readies Chainspell' > 'PC uses Chainspell' in a short period of time, or even at ALL for that matter. Why do I know this? I proved with my SS and AV attempt that 'readies' is not reactionary, but based on a "mode" so to speak, and AV NEVER starts in that mode, there is either a period of time, or a certain thing you must do to place AV in that "mode", lets say AV does 10 'readies' 2hr in that mode before going back to normal at which point you would have to wait, or redo whatever it is you do to get AV to 'readies', 10 2hr, ALL of which are 100% random so in theory it could just NOT do benediction, or manafont during that period, and you would have to wait or place it back to 'readies' mode, which even if it DID do those 2hrs you could fuck up easily, and you would have to wait again and again.
That alone will be the 10~18hr time frame they were talking about for the kill. No one in the game knows how to make AV 'readies' 2hr, and what I am working on, or was rather, until the news of nerf, was how you go about making AV go to that mode which we clearly had it in. The odds of someone 2hring the SAME 2hr after 'Absolute Virtue readies 2hr' in a time frame of maybe ~3sec is almost non-existant when you don't even fucking know how to make it 'readies' OR what 'readies' even means, and like I said people thought it was reactionary. The most obvious thing to do is recreate our exact attempt which ended in me sacking AV into linking aerns, and AV going into a 'readies' mode. Which I was going to be working on until this nerf.
I said 'You people really don't know how to lock AV?' as more of a joke than anything, but seriously only posted that out of the anger I got out of some of these idiots posting AV is impossible, and it was not intended to be killed ect ect. There is a 99% chance locking has something to do with readies, and I hope everyone understands that, for if you don't you need to wake the fuck up.
"Hey guys, remember that time I said I knew how to lock AV and pissed you all off by sounding cocksure and superior and taunting people with 'I told you so?' Yeah, turns out I lied. I really don't know how to lock AV."
I wanna know how it goes next time you try! Sounds interesting, =O
A bit OT, but does it seem weird that the development team chose to 'fix' these NMs rather than just come out and tell us what the 'secret' was in painfully simple terms? You'd think that an explanation for for an already-existing situation would be simpler than simply re-writing everything.
Probably because PW was working as actually intended from the start!
JoL's fight length being shortened wouldn't be so bad either since it just makes the whole AV process that much more of a pain for most people. Although I'd really rather just see JoL drop a trigger to pop AV or something.
And then just add a new ??? to keep people from holding it up.
