If that's the case, scale back on the video card to a 4850, the CPU to a E8400 ($20, but its something), and even the RAM back to 2GB if you want... you should be fine with that in XP.

I did this, but with 4gb ram, cost me $1k and will play all those games like a dream.

The motherboard is fine, you picked a good P45.

However, if you still plan on the HD4870X2, you might not want a DFI board.

Going with the 4850 Epical linked a few posts ago.

Then either motherboard is fine. The Gigabyte can handle DDR2 or DDR3 if you want that upgrade path.
