This one is kind of stupid, but fun nonetheless.

A voice said to you "Coconuts, $5 a dozen" With your lightning quick arithmetic you calculated that if you sold those same coconuts to the coconut air assault team for the going rate of $3 per dozen that in no time at all you would be a millionaire. When I met you 15 seconds ago you told me the words you've just read. I ain't trying to be nosy but now that you've drug me this far, explain your math or quite lyin' and tell me your TRUE financial status!

I know I've heard this, but lets see if i can remember the answer.

Best option is to choose to switch doors. Something about the first choice only being a 33% chance

Two ways to look at it.

You have a 66% chance of being wrong when you first choose. So when your choices are reduced to two, your original choice was more likely wrong than right, so you switch. In essence, it suggests the other door has a 66% chance of being right, instead of 50/50.

Or...

When reduced to two choices, you flip a coin to decide which of the remaining ones to pick. It may or may not be your original pick, but the chance of being right is now 50/50. So it doesn't matter.

But consider, statistically, only 1/3 of people would be right if never offered the chance to switch. That means if everyone switched, 2/3 of people would win. Is this what a statistical trial would show, if everyone must switch? But if switching was manditory, how would it be different than just making a different first choice? Well, the first pick has two alternates, the second, only one.

From a pure statistical/Math perspective if you switch your chances that the second door contain the car is now 66.666% so it is to your best interest to change. They talk about this problem in the movie "21"

It's computer terminology.

-128 to 127 is the size of a signed byte (2^8), whereas a word (sometimes called an integer) is 2^16. A double word and quad word are 2x and 4x that size, respectively.

I could have done greater than 255 and less than 0, but that doesn't sound as cool as greater than 127 and less than -128. And a signed word would go both higher than 127 and lower than -128.

but with the way some of these Riddles go, the statement says "2 with goats and 1 with a sportscar," so I'd stick with door 1 since it has the car.

Just take it at face value that a word is both bigger than 127 and less than -128, and interpret the rest as you will.

Can't say I've ever heard of a 2^16 string being called a 'word' before, so that explains my confusion there. I recognized it as a signed byte, but couldn't get the correlation.

The men and women lines would be better summed as "women always have a few, men can never get one in edgewise" i think, but that may be too obvious.
