A besieged NM pops to the south of the area (Gursomething the Menacing, or such) which is true sight, but you'd have to make a real effort to actualy aggro that in your way to zone (1). Mirror guards (which are NOT true sight) are positioned north west of that room. To aggro them you literaly need to go afk while auto walking, as you can easily just hug your left as you do the U turn.

The NM might have a big walk radius, so you could just kill him before you start, it's not like it's hard (that's what we did, "just in case").

Personaly, i'd stick with zone (1), but to each its own.

(Side note: People need to stop being afraid of using melee =/ )

Sorry, I assumed they were true sight because they don't despawn, but if you get a link (which is a little easier than people are saying depending on mob position) then they would have to walk back through where you would want to fight Achamoth before returning if you camp at (1).

    Meh, to each their own.

TP spam caused me to eat 3 Fire Breaks in a row, back to back to back. Totally sucked ass. We use melee on it, we just have them TP on something else, and WS only. Seems to make the fight take only a little longer, and makes it far more stable, expecially if there is no backup tank.

Edit: We also fight it at the 'Permanent' Camp since there are just some people I just can't trust to not suck and get aggro on the way there and die. Or screw up the pull. Or aggro the mirror guards... Sometimes "You sit here and wait for the big boys to come back with the NM" just works out the best.

Initial hate has always been a problem, but I think in all fairness it could be done with 3.
Realistically lowest being 4, and absolute lowest being 2.(only if you glitch it to not spawn babies)

Kind of off-subject, I prefer tanking things that aren't HNM-status on MNK over NIN; VE is a problem, but MNK builds and holds hate very well. MNK also has higher HP, an emergency self-cure Chakra as well other defensive abilities.

Each time I've done Achamoth, I end up tanking nearly 100% of the time and barely take damage until Fire Break stage. The setups I think for 4 would be RDM, BRD, MNK, THF; for 3 RDM, BRD, MNK; and for 2 MNK and RDM.

My group always just keep Elegy on him for debuffs and it works out nicely; Exuviation only recovers 0 HP. I've done it with a PLD before several times, but I really don't see the need for that. Probiscus will just steal nearly all their MP, and they won't hold hate most of the time.

A few weeks ago my group glitched Achamoth to where it fell into the lava, the babies popped down there in the lava and stayed there; for our remaining pops the babies never spawned. I heard later that another group after us didn't have any babies pop either; a server maintenance fixes that. We accidentally did it again tonight, so it can be duplicated - I wouldn't count on it happening though.

Since all Wam TP moves are magical and not physical, Counterstance is a very powerful tool; between that and being a half-decent blink tank, MNK just eats this thing up.

I imagine it has to do with there only being 1 set of dats for the mobs it pops, so if it spawns them down there they never despawn and thus it can't summon any more even in subsequent pops.

Thing is a such a joke, way too many people trying to make it sound harder then it is. The pull is fucking easy unless you are an idiot and there is no reason to run an extra half the map to take it to Thickets zone. Kaylia's posts explain how we do it and we have never had a problem. It's beyond easy to tank on PLD/NIN. PLD/NIN, RDM, BRD ,BLM, THF could easily kill it.
