Slight derail, but what mobs do you cure cheat on? I worked out a nice cure3/4 macro for my pld, but I never really use it. Mostly because:

Tanking anything hard im usually curing myself or anyone else that needs. I dont really find myself idlely sitting around going "damn no one is taking any damage and I have nothing else to do, guess Ill just spam this".

In theory it is a great practice, and is a nice way to build hate back if maybe a melee has taken hate and hasnt really reduced the emnity via being beatin, but 95% of the time there is always someone to cure Q.Q

Perhaps my melee just need to learn to keep their shadows up =/

If I lose hate during a fight, people don't let me forget it. The same goes for any tank in my linkshell. We've all gone through my school of Paladin tanking so it doesn't happen often thankfully. I am on a constant rotation of (something along the lines of):

Flash > Cure III > Cure III > Flash > Cure IV > Cure III > restart cycle.

Cycle changes when Sentinel is active, slotting more Cure IVs than Cure IIIs. Flash always ready when Sentinel is hit to use two Flashes during Sentinel duration for maximum enmity. There is some time between each cast, to spread out enmity gained/time. It's not just one spell right into the other.

If melee in my alliance are taking damage from something other than Blaze Spikes or an AoE WS (Dreadstorm, etc), then I am not doing my jobs properly. It should be noted that my linkshell is very melee-heavy. We TP burn Cerb in 15minutes, SAM/Mana/CB burn Tiamat in 25-30. We do everything fast and our tanks have learned to play at that level of speed or be forced to improve to reach it.

Not to perpetuate what belongs in it's own thread (and has been beaten to death ad nauseum) but this statement makes me cringe.

For time efficiency, if the dd's are doing their job, hate will shift. The hate dynamic exists not simply to be "won" via single client's unchallenged hate control, but rather to be manipulated for best efficiency by the group as a whole.

Having DD push their enmity into non-lethal, but hait gaining, territory is GOOD for that balance.

I prefer a good challenge. When we are running full steam, I or another tank can let the alliance know where we're at in terms of hate level. If melee need to hold back (like TA instead of SA this land or something), then so be it. We have been known to go crazy on mobs with less backlash than Tiamat, like Khimaira or Cerberus, and we are successful in those areas. Rarely do the wheels come off, but when they do, we know exactly why it has happened.

I manipulate the hate to maximize my MP's efficiency. That comes with experience, and that is exactly what I tell everyone that wants to know how to not just build, but utilize cure cheats appropriately. There is a time and a place, but more often than not, more is more. Tanks are their own healers and hate-engines. They should not be sitting near max MP ever (imo, of course).

Flash -> casting shadows -> 15 seconds left on flash -> AoE move by mob -> casting shadows -> 4 seconds -> flash -> Cure 4 people that got hit with AoE -> continue.

I guess thats what Im saying. Between casting shadows on mobs that attack reasonably fast and/or after AoE, and curing melee that just got hit with the AoE, I rarely find myself sitting around with extra time to just piss away mp. And ya, I actually make fun of my melees if they cant take hate Q.Q.

To each their own, perhaps I low man stuff to much, perhaps your LS is a bit better at keeping their people topped off lol. Just curious.
