I must defend Wopa here. His achievement is substantial. He got a large group of people to join what is essentially a private Tiamat farming static for his personal benefit and has them believe they are in an HNM linkshell. These players sacrifice their playtime to monopolize gaiters for him and acquiesce to him retaining a disproportional share of the profit while he doesn't even camp.

Making an arrangement like that work takes considerable psychological skill and insight into player motivation. How do you acquire and retain the indispensable PLDs for example? Wopa's solution is brilliant - monopolize Khimaira in addition to Timmy. Exclusive server control of Khim means you'll have an endless supply of PLDs who can't wait to camp Timmy for you in the uncertain hope that you'll let them lot a Hauteclaire some day.

This subtle but effective member control mechanism is aided and enabled by a designed total absence of point system, charter, lotting rules or any other kind of mechanism by which members could hold their leader accountable. Item and gil rewards are granted or withheld indefinitely solely at the leader's discretion, creating an environment where members must compete for the leader's personal favor. As in all types of societies ruled by the whims of an all-powerful leader, expression of dissent or dissatisfaction over loot distribution tends to be rare.

The design of this power structure is elegant and sophisticated as it involves no apparent coercion of members. Indeed, the linkshell name leaves no doubt as to the priorities of the group and the identity of the primary beneficiary of all linkshell activity. No member can claim to be unaware of the nature of the group.

A naive observer might expect such a group to disintegrate within a very short period of time. Members who perceive that the leader enriches himself at their expense would tend to leave quickly. Indeed, it takes a delicate touch to find just the right balance of withholding and granting rewards so that average member time to burnout is reduced to the level needed where personnel attrition and recruitment are in equilibrium.

Wopa deserves praise for recognizing and acting on the critical need to recruit members from other servers once he had approached the point where he had burnt through most server natives. Cross-server recruitment opened up an almost limitless labor pool that was largely unexposed to negative word of mouth and easily impressed by Pravda-style front pages and linkshell loot lists inflated by counting items recruits acquired outside the linkshell.

Wopadobop is well on track to be the first and only player in FFXI to own all 16 relics. He has created a unique and highly effective support structure to finance this project. I applaud him for this singular achievement.

i been in WopaCo for 8 mths and can clearly state wopa does his relics on his own merits(and im sure wopa himself has posted ages ago on BG some ways he does this.. farming byakko pants etc)

also helps he has a cool sister that has some INSANE luck with +1 synth's

So to be fair if wopa or anyone wants to spend their gil on lap dances or relics - it dont matter.

As far as some comments to him having an army of slaves etc .. i suggest join the LS and find out for yourselfs before you comment

recently the LS managed to farm like 150 million in course of a mth which went to member payouts and im sure wopa was on low tier payouts in somecases and on others no payouts atall.

As to monopolizing HNMs - simple - come outcamp and then outclaim us - we are seriously bored over the current lack of competition after we broke the spirits of so many shells who have tried in past

We have like 19 or 20 relics last count (i need to update the loot page@@) and right now finish 2 MEMBER relics every few mths .. and have allready invested close to 200 million in MEMBER relics

I count 13 on the LS lootpage - 2 of which don't even exist ("Coming soon!") and 1 which has left your LS. There are 8 listed on FFXIAH, 5 of which are Wopa, and all of which are listed on the LS Loot page barring 2 of Wopa's. You got 7 or 8 members hiding their relics or something?
