His point was never that Osode is useless - it's that the gear would nearly always be better utilized by selling it to afford things that might make a tangible difference. The only people this wouldn't apply to are those without a need of extra income, whom are in the minority. In fact, I believe his point was that the type of Bards that typically use Osode are in the majority, not the minority.

To clarify, most of the folks posting in this thread are experienced BRD75. For example, they see a quintuple link in a low-numbers situation, and they'll probably walk out of it with an intact party. Does it matter if they do it in an osode or a houppelande, manteel or marduk? F*** no. That's up to personal preference, playstyle, wallet, and the events they and their linkshell choose to enjoy.

Please don't disrespect experienced BRD over what are honestly minutiae. Errant vs osode has been debated hundreds of times across many many boards, and by doing it again in an experienced group you're just generating noise.

I idle in full darksteel +1, umbra cape, jelly ring, and mermans ring/ear to cancel out the +magic damage on jelly. It's an inventory nightmare to hold a -dmg set along with a buff, debuff, and -enm (raven gear/novio for cures and while finishing ballads) set. But its great fun to wear a subligar. This is in important stuff, not merits/etc where its all haste/fastcast/-songcasting.

I really like the ability to run timed macros to equip -songcasting and latents at the beginning of a song, skill as it ends, and -dmg within a second of it completing. It a) maximizes potential and b) the blinking gets me back running quicker since their is no waiting on the animation. Also, its great fun for my gimpy stoneskin to not even break on AOE's that send the tanks into orange health.



I'm at the point where gear choices for buff time, buff finishing, -enm, and -dmg are all pretty much maximized. Also, most of the debuff choices as far as skill vs. chr are concerned are pretty cut and dry. The one area of debuffs I'd love to see someone do testing on is magic accuracy. nyzul feet and einherjar ring/body can add quite a bit (at the expense 5 skill from oracles feet, 3 skill from nereid ring, and 12 chr from marduk body). Of course, nyzul feet and omega ring also add 7 chr. So its an effective trade of:

+15 magic accuracy

for

-8 skill and -5 Chr


Seems like it would be a worthwhile trade, but for those of us who like to maximize but don't have an einherjar group (and would have to pay a pretty penny for shadow coat), it sure would be nice to know ahead of time if it would be worth it. Also Balrahn's ring is in the mix, but I have that so its no risk like it would be to obtain the other stuff.
