So whats good? Post Promathia Expansion.

I'm back in the game after two years, and while I retain my old knowledge I'm a newblet to the new expansions. I had finished all the CoP missions up until they added the -new- ones after Promathia himself. I bought the Vana'Diel 2008 collection which includes all expansions, I'm registered, online and ready to go, but first I have a lot of catching up to do. Whiile I was gone ToAU and WotG came out, the only thing I want to know is which of the new jobs to level. Currently I'm BRD75, SMN75, BST75 and always wanted a RDM75. But if BLU is as good as people say it is, RDM will have to wait, yet again. From what I heard its the most kickass of the new jobs, and also the hardest to level. But if I can get BST to 75, I can do anything. Should I level a RDM or pick one of the new jobs, if so which one? Which in your opinion is the most fun.

BLU's a cool job, versatile, and very, very powerful in the right situations. It's not a must-have job at all though, if you level it, should do it for fun, and not for perceived awesomeness over other jobs.

Can't go wrong with RDM though!

I hate rdm personally, too busy a job and kinda boring for what I'd have to use it for most of the time >_>

With a BRD at 75 and ToAU, you're set for some easy catching up, both in terms of merit and help. People are willing to explain a lot to returning BRDs, since they'll do anything to keep you in their pt. Skillchain + MB is dead, exp from mid-50s until 75 get more and more TP burn oriented. BLMs solo a lot.

BLU is not a must-have job, and it's a pain to level because of the spells you have to collect, but altough I don't personally have it at 75, I agree it's a very flexible job that can be very powerful in various situations.

I don't have RDM75 either, but I know a lot of people who put the job aside around 60-65, stating it became too repetitive and boring, having been reduced to a refresh-haste-rinse-repeat bitch for their exp parties. Try it and see how you like it with the current exp party dynamics.

As for the other new jobs, I found PUP an extremely pleasant surprise. It's the most fun I've ever had on any job since I originally leveled PLD several years ago. The downside to PUP, of course, is that nobody wants you and tends to laugh in your face a lot. XD I also found COR fun, though it goes through a lot of bullets. >.>;; CORs are highly wanted in endgame, though, at least on my server. SCH is also awesome at 75, when they can main heal almost completely on par with (or as my SCH friend claims, in a select few instances better than) a WHM, and throw some really heavy nukes of BLM-eque proportions - but they're awful at lowbie solo levels. x.x DNC is a great sub for any melee solo.

I am personnally leveling sch, after having smn, and i can tell you that sch is awesome . Great to level, i had alot of fun, both solo and in pt (soloed starting to 18 to 25, and then sometimes when i feel it this way). I am reaching endgame now, and people want you everywhere, for you can both heal pretty well (on par with most whm on most situations, sometimes even better as it was said), and boost the blm power, or even nuke yourself for good damages (not on par with blm, but not by alot). Really a must have in my opinion

Corsair is fun, but expensive later on (ammo costs, getting the dice for your Phantom Roll skill). BLU can make some stuff superamazingeasy. Scholars are definitely entertaining alternative mage choices, and probably one of the best WHM subs out there now at endgame.

PUP is...well, not the best. Getting better, but it feels like an odd man out. DNC is a killer sub for meleers in many cases, solos well, but doesn't do much in endgame thanks to light weapons + a need for TP to fuel it's abilities.

ToAU is the dominant partying area post-55 and definitely meritwise now. WoTG gives you a soloing option thanks to Campaign from around 40+.

Depends how you define "kickass job". Out of all the new jobs in the last two expansions, BLU has the potential for most damage end-game. But it's also one of the slowest jobs to level due to all the spells you need to collect and the fact that you will always be one of the last DDs to get a party invite unless you have an epic reputation as a great player or build your own parties. In my experience only PUPs have it worse with invites than unknown BLUs, the job is so MP-dependant n00bs playing BLU just slow down otherwise fast-moving parties. And the number of full-AF in XP BLUs out there isn't really helping the job's reputation as a viable XP DD job. On a plus side, BLU can solo very efficiently and you can follow BLM solo guides on beastmaster monster pets until you can go destroy imps. I'm seriously considering leveling BLU next myself, it is a very fun job when you do get going. It has its slow days reminiscent of DRG back in 2004 but at least it's faster than PUP.

Of the new jobs, COR is basically the BRD, you never have to lfg for long, everyone loves you, your buffs are awesome, your 2hr is awesome and linkshells will fight over you at end-game. Also if you're a well-geared COR you can put out some decent damage numbers in XP and quick draw ability with +movement speed gear opens a lot of soloing possibilities. I left COR at 37 because I didn't want to do BRD all over again. I am constantly impressed by (and slightly jealous of) the CORs in my linkshell though. Personally if I had to pick of the new five jobs to call "kickass" it would have to be either COR or SCH just because they will give the most to any alliance and are useful in practically every single situation. Probably COR even more so than SCH. BLU is ok, but nowhere near irreplaceable. DNC and PUP should be done for the fun value only.

I did SCH to 75 in a few months after WotG release and had tons of fun, you're basically playing RDM/BLM/WHM combo job but without the boring parts of each of the job and with some added bonuses. You're never just a refresh/haste bish like on RDM, you get actual party invites unlike BLM and you main heal in XP very effectively especially later on when you can just AoE stoneskin your parties (it's the AoE buffs everyone loves you for in end-game as well). It was very versatile and fun though, one day I'd get a manaburn party invite with a bunch of BLMs and I could nuke to my heart's content, next day I'd be main healing again.

Do PUP only for fun and if you feel like it, I'm loving the job and it's great to campaign with but actual party invites suck and hence getting XP is very slow and it's seriously limited in end-game. But it's a reasonably strong soloing job (the White Mage muppet is pretty decent in keeping you alive albeit the AI isn't perfect) and like said, awesome in campaign. DNC was initially mocked as the PUP of WotG as it's a bit useless in end-game but it's great fun in XP thanks to heals and debuffs. I'm 64DNC at the moment and actually getting invites when not even LFGing which has been a pleasant surprise. It's a very fun and relaxed job and you can solo and do campaigns superbly because as long as you can get TP you're pretty much impossible to kill. And yeah, it's almost a must job to get to 37 for most melees nowadays for campaigning.

Don't forget that while you were absent lot of the older jobs got boosted to beyond recognition of what they were when you quit and a plethora of new equipment has become available. DRK, DRG, SAM and Great Axe WAR are now easily the top DDs in the game and never have to sit around for long waiting for invites. Considering that you already have a BRD and SMN at 75, if you want to add to your own versatility and bring more to your linkshell by leveling a melee DD job, I'd recommend any of those four over BLU. Otherwise you will probably get asked to come to events on BRD all the time anyway.

Sorry about long post, went on a bit of a ramble.
