    Swapped gear delay

    This is something I've noticed lately soloing drg. When you change gear, there's a bit of time before the stats kick in. Does anyone know what variables affect it? I know that client-server lag is part, and it may or may not have something to do with blinking, though blinkmenot doesn't help. This is hugely noticeable in healing breath, where the difference is up to 70 per breath.

    And yes, I know I could change most of the gear in a separate macro before casting. Healing Breath is one of the very few times I want to link gear to action, I'm just concerned about the consistency.

    On a lag-free computer, I always macro Fast Cast in before spells, which kicks in every time.

    I'm not sure if your computer is lagging a lot, or why your gear wouldn't swap in quickly enough. I've never had that problem though, unless there was a lag spike or some shit.

    Well, it's kinda weird. AF hat will fire every time, so long as "Equipment changed." shows up before the spell finishes. But the pet HP gear takes awhile to kick in. If I spam HB fast enough, sometimes it'll be two or three breaths before it hits full returns, yet all the gear was equipped the first time. It might be linked to the wyvern's attack cycle, as the HP bar seems to update when it attacks (alot less predictable when passive).

    I've noticed this for HP and MP on the main char too, at times. The <hp> and <mp> seem to refresh max values very slowly. Kinda makes me wonder if, for example, str or sea gorgets have the same latency regarding weapon skills, but that's harder to see in action.

    There is no latency server-side. When you change to HP down gear, for example, it tells the server that you changed gear, and then your HP is adjusted instantly (server-side). It doesn't update on your screen until you're given the confirmation by the server that this gear change is ok.

    The same thing happens when you change things like STR in.

    Another noticeable example is if you check your attack before hitting Berserk, and then hit Berserk and wait 30-40 seconds and check again, you'll see the old value at first and then the new one as it changes. However, your attack was (obviously) increased right upon use.

    Similar to Massimo, I have no problems getting Fast Cast to kick in when I macro it all in at the start of a spell without a wait before the cast. However, I've heard others claim that fast cast gear has a lag time to it, where it needs to be equipped for a sec or two first (which just means they have a laggy connection or something).

    Not the same issue exactly, but does anyone else experience an issue where using a WS or JA causes Drain Samba to not work for a short window afterwards? I notice it on SAM/DNC all the damn time for obvious reasons and it's really annoying to triple hit with soboro and not drain any HP when trying to kill a difficult mob.

    I find that to make Minstrel's Ring work properly on BRD I need to wait 0.5 sec after putting on my HP gear before I start casting; there does seem to be a slight lag before HP/MP changes take effect. With a shorter delay it sometimes works, but not reliably.

    This is extremely easy to test with MNK and Chakra in campaign. I had to change my Chakra macro to 2 steps (gay) because of shitty lag making it not register the equip swap. It would always miss the fact that I swapped to AF body and give me shitty HP returns :/

    Similar problem, but I don't really feel like making a new thread for it:

    I use script macros, and ever since I upgraded to 3.4 a week or two ago, I have problems where any <stpc> or <stnpc> spell causes a flood of "You may not perform that action on the selected sub-target" or something of that nature. I typically put all gear swaps in the script, while keeping the spells or JAs in SE's macro. Is there a fix to this?

    spellcast... or a /wait in between the gear swap line and the <stnpc> line. 3.4 changed the mechanics somehow so that the gear swap and the spell casting part happen at the same time which means the gear swap doesn't get carried out. the devs have said that they aren't going to fix it, which sucks donkey balls.

    OR you can make a script macro for every macro you currently have, with the /ma Slow <stnpc> line in the actual script. this is also "supposed" to fix it.

    Yeah, when you do a gear swap and such, any hits going off while your gear changes won't have the animation or log announcements, but it is still proc'ing.

    Wait wait, so for blu spells, if I have it setup like

    "/equip head
    /equip hands
    etc.
    /ma "Spell" <t>"

    will I still get the bonus from the gear? Considering how fast head butt and such casts.

    You could do /stare motion <stnpc>; /ma Whatever <lastst> to deal with that issue.

    I use aliases for all my gear swaps. As was mentioned, you have to add a wait time in there for <stpc> stuff or it won't work correctly. So for something like a Cure IV macro, I use:

    input curinggear; wait 0.5; input /ma "Cure IV" <stpc>;

    So basicly you macro some extra lag. You can do away with the wait 0.5 if you do the following:

    /recast "Cure IV" <--- force of habit
    /target <stpc> <--- you select target now
    //curinggear; <--- you confirmed it so you change gear
    /ma "Cure IV" <lastst> <--- you start casting the cure immediatly

    Also, the way you worded that macro sounds to me like it wouldn't even work (or maybe the wait 0.5 doesn't screw it up).

    /recast "Cure IV" <--- same force
    //curinggear; <--- you switch gear and go to the next line to choose your target
    /ma "Cure IV" <stpc> <--- you blink gear here and lose the cursor to choose your target

    These days I do my macros more like this:
    /recast "<st> spell"
    /target <st>
    //st_spellname (alias contains precast gearswap; /ma spell <lastst>; cast gearswap)

    or

    /recast "<me>or<t> spell"
    //spellname (alias contains precast gearswap; /ma spell <me>or<t>; cast gearswap).

    For a lot of spell I have more then 1 alias to differentiate between <st> and <t> like st_slow2 or slow2. This gives me the possibility to play ffxi like some notepad game. I tend to quickly type //spell while I'm playing so I don't have to play like beethoven and constantly switch between macro bars. Great fun when I type ..ss for stoneskin in a crowded area >_>

    I can pretty much reaffirm this, from personal testing. I don't have issues with other item swaps, but this actually does take a couple of seconds to trigger, but only when you're adding Pet HP, not removing. It's funny, because HP+ stats transfer instantaneously with Empathy.

    This is why I'm always so hesitant to macro gear swaps into a WS, or hit a WS too soon after changing gear... etc. I know it SHOULD take effect immediately, but sometimes it just doesnt seem right (like when playing DRG/WHM) and I can't fathom my many millions of gil and manhours in WS gear or whatever just going to waste cuz its not going into effect.. bleh.

    When I was still on PS2, I tested out Waltz macros on DNC to see if the CHR and AF would apply if it was swapped in like this:

    /ja "Curing Waltz" <stpc>
    /equip Body "Dancer's Casaque"
    /equip Ring1 "Angel's Ring"
    /equip Ring2 "Angel's Ring"
    /equip Feet "Dance Shoes"

    Sure enough, despite Curing Waltz being "instant", the numbers came up what they should if the gear were in effect. I haven't actually used DNC since changing to PC a few weeks ago, although new WotG missions are coming out, so...maybe. Guess I'll make some macros using Windower to do the gear swaps (which will be so much nicer...less button mashing and more use of gear) and test it out again.

    This should hopefully also be processing the clogs correctly, but I haven't tested it:

    /target <stpc>
    /equip Feet "Cure Clogs"
    /ma "Cure V" <lastst>
    /console exec whm/cure.txt

    I really like the idea of something like /stare motion <stpc> instead though, and wish I'd thought of it earlier; I prefer to keep the mob (or the Red leader in RvB) targeted regardless of who I'm curing at the moment.

    this is a dragoon specific bug/problem. when u put on wyvern HP + gear, it takes the server 1-3 seconds to recognize it. lag makes it a little worse.
    in order to compensate this, when im "tanking" while meriting i have a special macro that just puts on my Healing breath gear. so when i get down towards 60% hp, i'll switch over just to make sure i can get off that extra 70 on a breath.

    usually when im soloing even match mobs its no big deal, i can live with 390s. but if im in exp mode, im gonna push to hit 580s every time.

    my macros look like this

    /ma Barfira <me>
    /console exec cure1.txt
    /wait 2
    /console exec cure2.txt
    /wait 4
    /console exec cure3.txt

    cure1
    Code:
    input /equip head "Drachen Armet +1";
    input /equip R.ring "Bomb Queen Ring";
    input /equip back "Gigant Mantle";
    input /equip neck "Chanoix's Gorget";
    input /equip legs "Drn. Brais +1";
    input /equip body "Wyvern Mail";
    input /equip hands "Creek F Mitts";
    input /echo <       Mikan <pettp> TP        >;
    cure2
    Code:
    input /equip head "Wym. Armet +1";
    cure3
    Code:
    input /equip head "Walahra Turban";
    input /equip R.ring "Ulthalam's Ring";
    input /equip hands "Homam Manopolas";
    input /equip neck "Love Torque";
    input /equip legs "Homam Cosciales";
    input /equip back "Amemet Mantle +1";
    input /equip body "Ares's Cuirass";
    the wait2 is usually long enough, but if you're getting messed over by wyvern hp lag, i have a seperate macro that just hits cure1.

    sometimes when im soloing i switch out some gear so im wearing my wyrm armet or homam zuchetto instead of walahra for the defense.
