I think this is a perspective thing in which, I assume, you and the other guy are referring to bigger bands with sold out stadiums and 2hrs sets nightly, while touring for months straight. I'm more referring to smaller bands, doing the same type of touring, small venues with 30-45min sets max. With the latter at least there are plenty of ways you can help take care of your throat that require zero vocal training and still allow you to do the same thing for years and years with the same sound and quality you had before. I also think the difference in ideas about what music is about is differing between us. I think the voice preservation stems on the fact that you mean you can keep your voice up to par, to keep making albums which in turns makes them more money; whereas I see it as three years of everything you got, making real music, is more fulfilling than dick riding major labels and preserving your voice to produce radio friendly, mainstream [genre] just for the sake of making money.
