Supposed to be released Sept. 12th
I heard the new cut the other day and the only word I could think of was confused. Musically, it's a great tune and a bit of a throwback to One. The lyrics however are crappy, and don't even fit the song well.
I hope the rest of the album is better.
The lyrics are a bit... uh.. questionable, but other than that I like the sound of the album. Nothing can be as bad as St. Anger was. I think of that whole album I can actually listen to two songs on the whole album.
Hetfield also sounds like he is trying to not be as heavy, but we can't judge the whole album from this one song.
There is a live version of a new song from them "Cyanide" which sounded decent. Over all, to me, it does sound kinda like the bridge between "And Justice for all" and the "Black" album, like Lars had said in a interview. Can't wait for it to come out so I can buy it
Oh man.. that song brought back fuzzy memories of how Metallica used to be.
yea, they wont ever be that old metallica. you gotta take into the account their age in relation to how they are writing these songs, they aren't singing about the stuff they used too and if they did it wouldn't really fit their image.
at least imo
They released another new song on their Mission Metallica site, called My Apocalypse. This gave me a lot more faith in the album as a whole, I like this song a LOT better than The Day That Never Comes:

Awsome song so far. The little riff @ 1:52 is awsome good solo as well, Kirk is back to himself!
lol, Unforgiven III? hell yeah
Used to be my favorite band, until the whole St. Anger thing, and Lars sayin basically "screw our fans we do what we want".
It's better than St. Anger, which I'll admit isn't hard, but I'm thankful for that small mercy.
I listen to that track for the last 2-3 minutes but I can't get over the drums and how...boring they are with all that guitar shredding going on. The drums used to be the best fucking part of Metallica solos![]()
Hope the rest of the albums better <_<
Edit: My apocalyse definitely better than that first song
Not really pleased with those new songs
I'm kinda surprised I will say that as a huge Metallica fan, but imo they just should stop writing albums before making one too many, and just keep touring sometimes playing old good songs
They should have stopped with reload. Band lost its edge when Burton died; Newsted kept it going for a while; they did some good work while he was there, but since Trujilo has been there its all garbage. I agree with the sentiment they should stop now; tour on the old stuff.
I dunno, the drums used to (pre the band sucking) feel more in synch with what was going on with the guitars. This last track just has him playing the exact same drumline the entire way through, chorus and solo alike; he doesn't even change it up or put in a break to back up the shredding. The awareness that used to please is gone. He's turned into a marching band drummer.
That sort of reminds me of One.....a shitty song for the first 2/3rds and good for the last 1/3rd.
