Questions for JP players

Can the average japanese player determine the difference between French/German/Spanish and English? I ask because I had a JP and some Spanish players in my party once and the JP thought we were all NA even though the 3 spanish guys were speaking spanish.

I'd be happier with an auto-translate/commands that grew with time to incorporate things the players actually commonly do.

I pt with a lot of JP's before and never had a problem telling them some basic shit

(Camp) <pos> - works all the time, they understand it well
or even this is what I do

Ex 1: (Mamool Ja Staging Point) (Gather Together) and they understand that perfectly or
Ex 2: (Nyzul Isle) (Bhaflau Thickets) (Bird) (Camp) - this also works ( dont even need the bird unless u being specific on doing birds there only)

(Have stuff to do, gotta go) works as well perfectly, or this works
(Please forgive me) (Linkshell) (Event) (have stuff to do gotta go)


(Camp) (Sightseeing) - this works for me alll the time. Use it when you're trying to tell them you're looking for an open camp,

Can the average NA tell the difference between JP, HK, Chinese, Catonese, Vietnamese, etc?

I'd say that any language using purely the roman alphabet is going to be confusing for JP to tell the difference between English and another language, same as most Americans think any kanji stuff is Chinese.

Think he meant leypoint? That's not in auto-translate for some mysterious reason, and it needs to be.

The mysterious reason being it's called Leypoint in the JP client as well. I'm just guessing here, but I'm pretty sure everything you can target is in english regardless of client.

Text commands don't actually translate, they see "/think" when you type that, not "/(Japanese word for think)".

I probably should have realized that, oops. I think you're right. Pretty sure that's actually something that a lot of people don't realize/know, instead taking pains to try to autotranslate mob type instead of the specific target (ie {bat} vs star bat). To keep on topic: I wonder if the JPs ever struggle with the mob names all being in English?

I hope you mean "South West". There's probably more people in Japan with a firm grip on the English language than there are in the American "South".

Well, that general region, Florida and whatnot have a high hispanic population too.

As for Japanese speaking English better than people from 'tha dirty south', I wouldn't be surprised. I do know that a lot of it is just feeling embarrassed when you can't get the idea across, or make a simple little mistake which turns out to be really funny in English... so then the party starts laughing, and you aren't sure why.

I remember when I was like 16, I was framing houses with some mexicans, and instead of saying the word for kitchen, cocina, I said cucina, which is apparently slang for bacon or something along those lines. Took a while til I figured out the problem.

I know that. That doesn't mean that all, or even most, JP can speak it worth a damn. They learn the roman alphabet, so they can at least differentiate the words and recognize them and be able to look them up, but as for inherent understanding upon reading, I very highly doubt many of them can accomplish that.

JP kids slack in school too (not nearly as many as in America though it seems...)

Actually living here in Japan now, most people I've interacted with have a pretty good understanding of English. They however, won't always let you know they do because they strive to be perfect at it and are embarrassed to the point that they won't speak it to you if they feel they may make any kind of mistake no matter how insignificant.

However, if you make an effort to say something in Japanese, even if you fuck it up and only know a few phrases, they open up a lot more and are way more willing to interact with you in English.

Just my experience after living here for a little while.

Fact, they really don't like to speak it if they're going to feel embarassed, which is unfortunate because it makes it a lot harder when they WANT to speak english with you (a friend of mine is like that).

I've noticed that it's half and half online at least with the attempt to speak Japanese... either they open up, or they snicker at you behind your back while openly telling you how good your japanese is. There is another kind too, the one who will only speak to you in broken hardly-understandable english even if you clearly demonstrate that you can understand and speak japanese fine. They tend to drive me nuts~

Was asking a JP friend about SET bonus (Called Combination in JP) of FL Assault items. He said he didn´t think there was any research yet.

No results for the Assault items but the Vamp Set. On another note it says Hachiryu gives +5 Store TP already having 2 pieces equipped. Not been tested with 3 but logic intenda it would go up to Store TP+10 with 3 items and +15 with 4 items. Interesting.
