Had a Jp taru girl pop in a little shell I have some friends in, was just me and a good friend, and I was askin him about girls and stuff, kinda pokin at him like an older brother would, so we were talking about a friend of his with nice D tits.

Few seconds later, the taru girl pops up and is like "oh, interesting speaking!" so he is mortified.

I told him she probably didn't catch much of it, or understand much, and asked her if she did.

She says this, and I laughed for 2 minutes.

"I understood booooobs"

(oo is pronounced like OH, so her husband had taught her to oooooo on those english words, so she types it like that too, which just makes me laugh picturing a taru girl saying "booooooobs")

That probably shouldn't have made me laugh as hard as it did, but oh my did it ever.

Some asked about whether JP can ask some questions too, there was an article in that way actually, "what foreigners think of JP" and "what JP think of foreigners" in an old... uh magazine or guide? but it was pretty general and shallow and none of the sensitive issues were touched. They'd interviewed two NA players... I'll try to see if I can dig it up if anyone is interested (not sure I still have it though ><).

I'm really interested in hearing the reasoning behind 'JP only'. Is it that strange to accept that there are people who speak a different language? I know a lot of americans who can be almost equally as xenophobic, but most won't put 'US players onry' in their seacom, or actively try to avoid non-americans.

As for the whole 'why JP ONRY' question, I've asked a few of my JP friends this before. The answer I got was basically "NA have a different playstyle than JP, and JP prefer their own playstyle." I think it's obvious that the playstyles differ...NA are much more casual about xp, constantly replacing members and flagging even when they only have an hour or less to play. JP won't flag unless they have over 1hr, and like to marathon their xp, only playing with others when they have a long time to play (generally speaking).

This is exactly it. Etiquette, playstyle, and communication.

JP players really feel foreign players don't have the same manners/etiquette... For JP players it's hard to be told out of nowhere "sorry I have to go in 10 minutes" an hour or so before PT ends, because then you can't really replace someone ;; Same with fake D/Cs, or people who won't listen to what they're asked by the rest of the PT... JP parties want to start together and end together, all in polite and friendly fashion. Usually people will ask until what time you want to PT. If everyone says "ok for midnight" but one perso says "ah, sorry, I have to go at 11:30", then the PT will end at 11:30. Personally I hate it when an leader is unable to tell me approx. how much time they can PT. "I'll disband when I feel like it", etc... This is something JP players don't like.

Usually I PT mostly with Japanese, but recently I had a NA (?) player in an ToAU camp PT... We were on our way to a colibri camp, we had a balanced setup... and suddenly the DRK dropped off the PT without saying anything, and was doing something else in Windurst moments later, ignoring my tells ;;. Surely this happens with some JP players as well, but it makes JP people uncomfortable when inviting foreign players.

It's also a lot about communication. Why go out of your way to invite a foreign player and struggle with communication, not knowing what to expect from that person, when you can easily invite a JP player instead? Also, to Japanese people it seems a lot of NAs don't realize not everyone understands English-only abbreviations like "gtg" or "db", etc. and don't try as much as they could to make things easy to understand, or that's the image JP get. Sure enough, a lot of JP players don't make the smallest effort in that regard either.

Are there other MMORPG's are there available in JP similar to FFXI?
What 3rd party programs do JP gamers use for FFXI?

Monster Hunter Online is maybe the biggest rival at the moment? Then Lineage II and PSU.

JP players don't use 'help' plugins that much... Usually they'll use a parser/log saver and a window-mode (most popular one is called "windower kaizan"....). There are some plugins with like recast info, etc. Also there's something that allows you to insert stats/recipe in chat log for every item in the game.
As for RMT, a much smaller proportion JP compared to NA buys accounts/gils, as far as I know.

JP players do a LOT of research on the game... most of the things researched here and there that I see on NA forums, has already been researched by JP players before, usually... whether it's on a random blog, a game guide or an anonymous board like 2ch.

Here's one that I've been wondering for a long time... do Japanese players have any examples of Autotranslator abuse? You know, the equivalent of the <Mithra> <Hand> <Job>.

There are some! For example we say "(Oka)(Eria)" or '(Hill)(Area)' to say "okaeri" or 'welcome back'. You can also make sexual innuendos as well. There's one phrase that says 'please insert it' in auto-trans, and well.... w

Sage Sundi is not *that* famous of a figure in Japan, I don't understand why he's so famous in the NA community actually, especially when his statements have often been a little.... off? But the JP players, especially the bashers on 2ch-etc know very well about SE, they know precisely the names of who does what in the FF11 team and they comment/criticize their work giving them mean nicknames. But that's just the style of that board, they bash pretty much anything and everything like crazy.

Do JP players consider FFXIAH.com like people /check'n them? If so do they find it rude that the website was created?

Some certainly do, I've seen some complain about the privacy issue on the forums there.

On a related note, I've always assumed that you don't see JP players using the auto translate function nearly as much as you see NA players simply because the JPs don't want anybody who can't understand the shout responding. Is this true, or do they just really dislike Auto-Translate?

That may be because they're not interested in grouping with foreign players for an event, but I think the main reason is because the auto-translate is very impratictal to use for event shouts. JP shouts are usually very complex and detailed, eg: "Bhaf 15 Looking for JOB/SUB, OK if no experience, starting at 11 if members found, Aries piece already claimed', and there's no way you could auto-translate all the details. Japanese do a lot more pick-up events than NA/EU, too.
You can also ask the other way around: what's the point of shouting in Auto-translate for something, when most of the time you'll *need* the other person to speak your language for setting rules/strategy? If you shouted in auto-translate for an Assault clear and got a reply from, say, a German player who doesn't speak a word of English and didn't understand strategy, wouldn't it bother you more than anything?
But some people do make an effort and try to make their shouts understandable, eg for PM, big runs like Opti Hat, etc.

A JP player who used to be in my ls once told me if I smiley'd to JPs ( ^_^ ), they'd think I was polite (duh), but if I used multiple ^^^^^^^^^'s, they'd think I was rude. It was good to know, but I never really understood why?

Though it did shed some light on a story a friend once told where some JP ppl complimented his skill in very broken English, and upon replying "Thank you ^^^^^^^^^^" got reply back, "meny meny eyes ;_;"

I have a bard friend who's been invited to enough parties led by 'JP only' people to know that their playstyle is not different from NA, at least not any more than between 2 NA players. (Really, there's only so many ways to get xp/kill a mob in ffxi. Are there magical JP parties doing sc+mb on tavvy rams when everyone's not looking?)

I've partied w/ JP players who were retardedly uninformed about everything, from how to get to camp to what to do there, and plenty of them have told me '15min time remaining' or something to that effect.

I also don't believe in generalizations -- i've met plenty of nice JPs, too. It is just curious to me, but if its simple xenophobia, well then, their loss

I do understand about language barrier being an issue at any event that requires strategy, but simple xp parties really do not, especially not since nearly all of them are some form of tp burn nowadays.

Why is anyone who speaks english pigeon-holed into 'NA'. JP seem to think all english speakers are NA. I'm more curious about French/German and Spanish interactions with Japanese players, I think that's more interesting because it's less common.
