I'm curious anyone have one of the new ATI 48xx series and has FPS issues? I have a 4870 and I still get random ass dips in vista64 bit.

Dude fhq, I have a nice machine, same card as you, but get shitty fps on XP even. ATI > Nvidia for FFXI. Don't know about other games, but I don't care since I don't play not FFXi.
Sapphire 4850 ftmfw
I have one of those ATI HD2600XT cards. Works great for FFXI, I have all of the settings turned up to the max except shadows. Frame rate only suffers during sandstorms. Works pretty good for just about everything else I play too.
Bump, because ATI just released the HD4650 and HD4870. The MSRPs on these babies are $69 and $79 respectively, and they smoke anything Nvidia has in the under-$100 range. They also have very low power consumption and good (defined as better than Nvidia's) Vista drivers, which makes them perfect for the FFXI player and low-end gamer. Lastly, they support DirectX 10.1, so you're set for the new Blizzard games coming out soon, among other things.
They're also the range of cards that frequently end up in OEM machines from Dell or HP or similar, so those of you who can't or don't want to put together your own system aren't out of luck.
HD4670 I think you mean.
HD4870 has been out for awhile.
The HD4670 is just about on par with (slightly under) a HD3850, which is the same price or less. The HD4670 does use less power though.
any of you guys using HD4870 and use registry tweaks?
I just built a new system with Vista 64 / quad core / HD4870 and if i change the background resolution to anything higher than 1024x1024 the computer freezes at random intervals.
computer never freezes with ffxi not playing and with normal ffxi config settings, shit's pissing me off cause the game looks like donkey dung with a 1680x1050 overlay res.
should probably make a new topic for this <.< i'll go do that
Oh, and just as an update, it was not an issue with Nvidia as getting a new ATI card didn't do jack. Machine was just slow. Bought a new mobo/CPU + RAM, case, DVD player & drive, and now get rock solid 29.x FPS in almost all areas, barring it's some place where there's tons of player characters. I stuck with the ATI card, btw. Fiancée has the old box w/Nvidia card now.
Yeah bitch, I fucking told you to build a new PC.
NEVER DOUBT THE SHUE
how much for your old ones?
Should have built her a PC too you cheap bastard, don't you love your wife?
Shes in the kitchen always where she belongs. Why waste money?
