Portal was such an amazing game, until I tried to complete Step challenge...fuck this.

The step challenges really aren't that bad, you can complete most of them in 2 steps (1 steps with some thing shown in a video on youtube, I never managed to get it to work) although they require some fancy shots and such. Although, for levels 13, 14, and 16 you can get into the last room with only 2 steps fairly easily. After that you should be able to just run into the elevator and still get the gold.

For 17, just use portal bumping to get past the glass, will save a LOT of steps.

For 15, again possible with only 2 steps, but extremely difficult. Getting to the part with the moving platforms over the toxic water stuff in only 2 steps isn't TOO difficult, if you can do that you should be able to finish with gold.

18, you can get to the door and edge glitch past it in 2 steps fairly easily, after that it's not too many steps to the exit, so again, you should get gold easily.

Some tips: before leaving the elevator, fire a portal on the ground as close to you as possible, and another far away (on the ground). Jump into the first one and you'll only get 2 steps to start. Also, say you have 2 portals, each one on the ground. As soon as you come out of the yellow, shoot it somewhere else. You'll land on the ground without gaining a step and you'll be able to aim shots easily.

Also, if there's 2 portals on the ground, and you try this but you're too high off of the ground, you'll gain a step. So, in order to prevent this, spam the crouch button as you go through a portal, and it will slow you down. Once you're gaining the minimum height for going through each portal, then you can safely land without gaining a step.

Sorry if this is confusing, but the low steps challenges aren't really too hard. Just remember to save a lot and if you accidently step when you didn't have to then start over from where you last saved.

I'm sure it can be done. Problem is, it required way too many reloading, and constantly bouncing between both portal is just good to get dizzy. "Portals used" challenge was pretty fun, time trial was annoying, but still worked well with the gameplay...but step was just a pain in the ass imo.

Yeah, I like it the least of the 3, but usually it doesn't take TOO long (if you're just going for gold and not the absolute bare minimum number of steps).
