No, because then people would bitch that they are waiting too long between version updates and thusly the version update must suck.
Really, it is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for them. If they have filler, people will bitch about it as stuff they don't care about. If they don't have filler people will bitch that they aren't releasing enough news. If they release the notes too far apart people will bitch that there isn't enough information. If they wait too long people will bitch that it is taking too long to get the good stuff out.
Now, whoever reads this forum for Square, please take this next part back with you to whomever writes the update notes. Please use the following pattern: One note on a particular week, release it on Wednesday; two notes on a particular week, release them on Tuesday and Thursday; three notes on a particular week, release them on Monday and Wednesday and Friday. This way we know how much information that we are going to get on any given week. Only put advertisement for cheap, tacky jewelry or invigorated web sites between or after update notes- otherwise you will enrage your playerbase hungry for news. Try to space out at least 2 update notes a week, include filler like new items and Moogles in Selbina- it is better than no news. For the love of god, don't ever skip a week again- ten days is entirely too long between notes. You can also buy a little breathing room before the playerbase starts gnawing off their arms if you make your initial annoucement about the next update and give a timeframe of when news will start appearing, for example "Check back in two weeks for more news and blah blah blah." The point of these teasers is to excite the players for the contents of the next update, you do this by having a steady and predictable news flow for them. I am not sure about other sites, but at least around here, people start getting a little rabid without enough news to keep our (false) hopes up for the next update- you can distract us from debating (bitching about) AV and PW which gets a little frustrating after awhile. With just a few PR basics you can keep people happy, well, maybe not happy, but at least bitching about new things.
XXX, OOO,
Septy.
P.S. I'll write your teaser notes for you. I'll write the hell out of them.
Good god man, don't start making sense, you'll throw a monkeywrench in the whole "thing" we call the internet. We want our updates, we want them now, we want them often, and we want them all to be good. At the same time. Or else we'll bitch a lot and keep playing anyways!
It's kinda lame, but at least SE's trying to support the player communities (even if it's not really one WE recognize, obviously SOMEONE must go there). It's good to see them giving up space for the players. I'm not anticipating any more real teasers until the update, myself. We'll get one last announcement (job change blah blah fellowship something goblin keychains with 144hr recast Teleport-IGE).
Wow this really is a "veritable smorgasbord of additions and tweaks, adjustments and tunings!"
adds generic reply:
We waited FOUR days for this bs?
They're really milking that level sync thing :3
LOL popular site.New Poll of the Week!! Level Sync
Print News | Category: Site News
Now that everyone has had time to read the new announcement about level syncing if not be sure to go read now! Level Sync {You Can Have this} =P
Well mnow that you've read it we here at the vault want to know your opnions on it so be sure to make your vote! For now as always here are the results for last week's poll on the hot topic of "How Long is Too Long"
Seem as though most people agree that 7-9 hours is about the most they would spend, can't wait to see what SE does with new update
Question:
How Long is Too Long?
Choices:
Option 01: 1-3 Hours [1 votes]
Option 02: 4-6 Hours [4 votes]
Option 03: 7-9 Hours [9 votes]
Option 04: 10-15 Hours [1 votes]
Option 05: 18 or More Hours [4 votes]
More than likely there won't be a whole lot in this update after the level sync'ing and ToAU AF2/AF+1 additions. Hell, I bet the level sync'ing is what took up most of their time. Now they are just trying to pacify us until release date. But this one is just sad.
What the eff...surely they have something more interesting to announce than this crap
I think the best main page news would be something informative about the game.. Little things like "Did you know that ......" Usually it will be stuff we already know, but occasionally it would be things we dont.
Yeah, FFVault is like, dead...I remember way back in the day when their forum was pretty active n' such. Now it's like, a handful of people posting on a few topics a week.
Next update...
New FFXI News
The Final Fantasy XI team would like to announce that there will be new update notes sometime in the near future. Stay tuned while when spend the next 3 weeks saying the same thing, then release some mundane news such as a new emote or some stupid shit like that.
Geez...nothing positive to say about this at all...
That already happened. It's called the Scholar/Dancer T1 merit announcement.
So yeah, I decided to take a look since I have fond memories of trol... err discussing how I fornica... err eh fuck it, beat the living shit out of people back in DAoC.
With that in mind, someone want to tell me what changed? Because I don't see a whole lot of change.
I'm with this thought. I hope we see an update notice before the weekend though, as in the date and time. None of the update notices say "Early September" which means we have a week of cock teasers to go through still. We'll know Saturday, since they always announce the date the weekend before the update. (Pleeeeeeease don't let them be stupid enough to do it on memorial day)
Next update is about the Linkshell Community, just you fucking wait. I called it.
I know we generally pick SE apart about every little thing, but wow... what the hell are they doing.
News like this such, as community site information and merchandising should be separated from updates pertaining to the patch. Unless of course they don't even distinguish a difference in the scheduling for posting random crap vs. tantalizing patch info. Or maybe, as someone has mentioned, they're really stretching on this one. What's so wrong with like getting a post about a community site coupled with something about the patch? Argh, who am I kidding... this is SE.
WASTE OF SPACE
Are they trying to become more "in touch" with the community now?
