It is, it's part of the network of sites that IGN absorbed, which is probably why it got this level of coverage. Like 'em or not, that's a rather large site.

Really, it is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for them. If they have filler, people will bitch about it as stuff they don't care about. If they don't have filler people will bitch that they aren't releasing enough news. If they release the notes too far apart people will bitch that there isn't enough information. If they wait too long people will bitch that it is taking too long to get the good stuff out.

And finally, if they have too many juicy announcements, when patch day finally arrives people will complain that there are an insufficient amount of really interesting changes that have been left as a surprise.

Those are the last lines from the level sync update notes. I took that to mean there wouldn't be anymore until the day of the update. It's possible they meant there are more details about level sync specifically that we would get on update day, but the fact they said "Until then, happy adventuring!" led me to believe that was the last we would hear from them until the update.
