I have two that I can remember. I generally don't buy into ghost stories, and both these stories have logical possible explanations, but I still wonder about them.

    ----

The house I grew up in had a full acre yard and was completely surrounded with trees on all sides (it was just slightly lighter on the side that faced the street). About in the middle of the back yard was an apple tree that grew kind of slanted.

I was told not to climb it, but I was about 6 and decided it needed to be climbed. My mom was doing yard work in the front yard and my dad worked nights and was asleep. I make it about 8 feet up and I chicken out and start climbing back down when I slip. I somehow get a broken off stub of a branch jammed through my pocket. So I'm hanging from this tree by my pocket about 4 feet off the ground.

Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get unstuck. I started panicing and crying out for help. The front yard started about 75 feet away, and the nearest neighbor house was about 400ft away. Finally I see a guy squeeze through some trees and jump the fence and run over to me a minute later. Our family's three dogs, who were very protective of me when I was little, didn't try to stop him. He pulled me out of the tree right about when my mom came rushing up. I thanked him and he walked away.

Several years later I mentioned this story to my mom, but she looked at me puzzled. Then told me that no man got me out of the tree and it was just her. I thought back on it and remembered that I didn't recognize the man at all. I never saw him when trick or treating on his street. He also arrived very quickly. My mom couldn't move very fast due to an injury, but she was much closer than he could have been.

Thinking about it logically tells me that either I misremembered the events or my mom did. Or the man was somebody that my mom didn't want me to know and denied his existence. Sometimes I find myself wondering who that man was, though.

    ---

My dad died after being in the hospital for a month. I was there when he died. That night, at about 4AM I'm taking the trash out to the curb. About 25ft from the end of the driveway I see a white dove (or pigeon, or shit-hawk) just standing in the center of the driveway.

I don't think too much of it until I pass near it, towing a garbage can on wheels and it doesn't fly off. I keep going and put the garbage near the curb and start walking back. I walk up to the bird, this time getting about a foot away from it and squatting down right next to it. I look at it for a while and it turns its head and looks at me, making no effort in escaping. I shine a mini-LED flashlight keychain on it, getting a better look at it. Eventually I get up and walk away, not knowing what to think.

I'm not sure how to rationalize this one. The bird was awake unless it was totally deaf and birds move their heads and have their eyes open when they're asleep. (My mom's birds all sleep with their eyes closed and their necks kinda tucked into their bodies. This one just looked like it was standing like normal.) Pigeons aren't very afraid of humans, I know. But whenever I see them in parking lots they usually fly away when somebody gets close.

When he died I had stuff I wanted to apologize to him for. Part of me wants to think that it was his way of saying it was okay.

In my old house basement, I was like 14 or something, I went downstairs in the middle of a night to get a drink (ended up being 7-Up, although I suppose this note is useless). When I passed by my basement on the way back, there was an eerie blue glow coming out from under the crack of the basement's door. I was like "...We don't have anything that makes an eerie blue glow in the basement... and no one is down there... what the shit?" so I quickly ran upstairs, and it never happened again.

Same house, me and my cousin were bullshitting around one day and listening to an old radio we found for some reason. The station randomly changed to some creepy ass noises, and we were so weirded out so we turned it off and left my house. Maybe it was interference causing UNDESIRED OPERATION (In accordance with Canadian law) but it only happened once.

My rabbit (when I owned one at the time, picture included cause he's teh cute) would also get scared shitless occasionally when he was in our basement (we let him run around down there when it was winter, after bunnyproofing it of course). We thought maybe he could see or feel the spirit that was around in our house, cause I'm sure there was one.

I love reading this kind of shit... I have one but I don't really know how it compares, either way it scared/creeped/confused/shook me up when I was little.

As I was growing up, my father had a pretty gnarly stereo system in the living room that was all from the 70's or so. Big free-standing speaker cabinets, a large equalizer unit in an entertainment center with those glass doors you have to push on to open. Keep in mind, this was an older unit with big heavy metal switches and sliders that actually were annoying to push because of the fact that the unit was made to be mounted on some kind of frame. Since it was simply stacked, pushing in the rather heavy buttons requred holding the unit itself with the other hand to make sure it didn't slide with the weight it took to push buttons. Also, with a volume from 0 to 100, 10 was about as loud as you would ever need it to be (I think I fuckin' toasted the thing by turning it up to an extremely obnoxious 20 later in life).

Both of my parents worked and my brother went to a different school than I and got home about a half hour or so later than I. I get home from elementary school one day to arrive at my completely empty house which is rather darker than usual inside. Every single window, blinds, curtains are all shut. It's almost like that creepy amount of dim light but in the middle of the day, like they used in the original Ju-on films. I go to my bedroom to drop off my backpack and as I do so, I am completely startled by the loudest sound ever. What sounds almost like military transmissions, but muffled just enough to not make out what the words are and also constant speech, no normal breaks between sentences, is coming -extremely- loud from my living room. I jumped like hell because even from my room on the other side of the house, it was fucking -loud- and sudden. As I come down the hall to see what the fuck is up, I approach the entry way leading to the living room and realize the noise, which as been constant the whole time I approached is so fucking loud it's literally hurting my ears. Piercingly loud. I can't take it and have my hands over my ears coming into the living room.

All I can hear is the loudest and constant mumbling/muffled speech of a man's deep voice blasting so loud it was actually painful, even through my forearms smashed up against my ears. I go into the living room and I'm trying to open the glass door to the stereo with my elbows as taking my arm off of my ear that close to the speakers would fucking hurt. I see all the LEDs and such on the main equalizer unit are on and I'm wondering how the fuck this thing turned on without anyone to push the annoyingly heavy power button. I get the glass door open and unfortunately have to take a hand off my ear to push the power. The power was off the whole time. So I turned the power on, turned it off... the noise was still playing. So piercingly loud I didn't know what to do. I slid the volume lever from abouta normal 7 to 0. It didn't affect it at all. It was still as loud as ever. I was so weirded out, I just ran out of the living room because it was too painful to be that close to the speakers. As I left the room it suddenly ended and remained dead-silent in my house.

I go back to the stereo and it's completely off. Power was off where I left it, volume was at 0 where I put it and seemed to have no effect. Out of curiosity, I turned the stereo back on and some shitty music came on at normal volume as I turned it back up from 0. I was so bummed out on what just happened, I just left the house and walked towards my brother's school to see if he got out early or something and was fucking with me. Nope, ran into him just leaving his campus.

I believe, when I was 7 I use to sleep in a room with my grandpa, and one night his loud snoring woke me up, I had a urge to look out a window, when i see a swirling disk like object, with red and green lights. Tried to wake someone up, but no one would budge. I wish i was smart enough to take a picture of it. Ever since then, I have believed.

I had something similar happen to me, around the same age. I woke up, tried to wake people up, found I had no voice, saw an alien. etc (which kills me to date, in Russia at age 6, I should have no CLUE what an alien looks like, but the way I remember it, it looked like a typical grey)

I have 2 that I can remember pretty clear.

1st one was when I was round 7 years old, living in an apartment with my mom and stepfather, I was walking from the kitchen through the dining room to get to the living room. It was a clear day in the summer, sun shining and all. I was walking with my head down and looked up and to the right by where the dining table was and there was this rather large, human looking thing, hunched over and standing in the corner of the room, just staring at me. Froze me in place for a second till I had to force my eyes off it and move quick as hell to the living room.

2nd was in the new house we moved into when I was 13, for a few evenings I would go to pull down the shade on my window which looked out at the woods behind our house. Every time I went to pull the shade down, the same human looking hunched over vision was there, walking slowly up the back lawn towards my window or just standing on it watching me.

Still freaks the shit out of me when I think about it. Never looked into if the houses were haunted or anything.

My church usually goes to trips in the woods once a year, I remember one time around 2 in the morning ( it was the last day so everyone was up) this girl and I was making hot chocolate in the kitchen which was a 5 min walk away from the camp site. After we made it we sat on the porch mixing our chocolate and as I mixed my cup I realized the foam didn’t stop spinning so I showed her and this face appeared in the cup (see below). We both jumped which threw some of it out so it went away lol. This area was pretty haunted since people died there including one of the owner's dog.

That could be explained by a relatively common occurance known as sleep paralysis, where your mind is in a shallow state between sleep and awake. It is very real, and I'd imagine very disturbing, but it's not entirely uncommon.

When I was 6 or 7, my mom used to work nights and come home pretty late. I would always watch out of her bedroom window to the road below to look for the headlights coming home. I remember distinctly one night I'm watching for her, and I see this particularly bright star in the sky. I looked out the same window every night, and I never remembered seeing one so bright. I kept watching it for 5, 10 minutes...I'd glance back at it now and then while watching for cars. Then, all of a sudden it just starts ascending really slowly until I can't see it anymore...like it just went up until it disappeared. It didn't move really fast, just went up at a steady pace.

God it gives me goosebumps to this day when I think about how eerie that was.

i'm navajo native american; a lot of freaky ass shit happens to my family and shit. hardly phases me anymore.

i don't know if you guys know of navajo skinwalkers, but they're scary. i think there was like a shitty movie about it, but that doesn't really quite grasp it. they're basically just in arizona; mostly near the ghetto reservations. they're basically like, uh, i can't really explain, so i'll let wikipedia do it for me.

Possibly the best documented skinwalker beliefs are those relating to the Navajo Yeenaaldlooshii (literally "with it, he goes on all fours" in the Navajo language).
Some Navajo also believe that skinwalkers have the ability to steal the "skin" or body of a person. The Navajo believe that if you lock eyes with a skinwalker they can absorb themselves into your body.
Sometimes the skinwalker will try to break into the house and attack the people inside, and will often bang on the walls of the house, knock on the windows, and climb onto the roofs. Sometimes, a strange, animal-like figure is seen standing outside the window, peering in. Other times, a skinwalker may attack a vehicle and cause a car accident. The skinwalkers are described as being fast, agile, and impossible to catch. Though some attempts have been made to shoot or kill one, they are not usually successful. Sometimes a skinwalker will be tracked down, only to lead to the house of someone known to the tracker.
According to Navajo legend, skinwalkers can have the power to read human thoughts. They also possess the ability to make any human or animal noise they choose. A skinwalker may use the voice of a relative or the cry of an infant to lure victims out of the safety of their homes.
few skinwalker stories in my family. basically them just driving in arizona at night on the highway and some random white shit jumps in front of the windshield. the land is flat and hardly any deer-like animals out there.

i have a shit load of ghost stories. it sucks.

Well, when my father passed away almost 5 years ago (September 25th marks the 5th), freaky shit seemed to occur on the anniversary.

We never really did get along quite honestly. I simply saw him as a controlling asshole, he felt the need to push me, even when I simply couldn't go further, which, when I was younger, lead me to really hate him as a person, but as a father, I still liked him.

Anyways. Every year there'd be unexplainable events. Whether it's stairs creaking, sheets being messed up (Mother would make her bed, come home from work and they'd be messed up, he went to work later than her, so would've slept in longer), doors we lock at night would be ajar next morning.

Not really that freaky, but I guess a part of me truly wishes it is him somehow just so I can be convinced there's something beyond 'life' itself. I guess that's why so many people believe in Religion?

Sleep paralysis is VERY real and it's really terrifying when it happens to you. It was happening to me a few years ago and basically, you think you're going to die of a heart attack.

Basically, you KNOW you are awake but you can't open your eyes or move your body even though you feel yourself trying. Your heart starts racing because you don't know what the fuck is going on and shit... And basically it settles down after that and you probably fall asleep or something.

I thought it was caused by some kind of heart problem so I went to the doctor and he simply told me to stop drinking caffeine a lot. I laid off the coffee every morning and it never happened again thankfully.

Thinking of it. Anyone been to Gettysburg?

Scary fucking place, considering the stories and I have myself seen my share of shit.

When my school went there for a trip our tour (my group of 10) came across Little round top, we saw what was obvious to us (by their uniforms) a confederate group, who were just walking around, almost patrolling.

Later in the day when we commented on the said group we were informed that there was no reenactment going on that day, or week.

We were confused and sorta scared, but i thought it was more or less very interesting, as i have a knack for ghosts

I've had that happen a bunch of times, thou I can't say I've hallucinated or anything during it. My mind is awake, but I'm still 'asleep' and can't move, talk, open, my eyes or wake up. The worst part is that I'll usually feel like I'm drowning for lack of a better word. I'm sure I'm unconsciousnessly breathing, but in my mind I can't feel it, and I can't force myself to breath either. It's difficult to describe, but it really freaks me out.
