also that Time article was excellent.

    my favorite worst part:
Reagan talked about an America that existed "when I was young and when this country didn't even know it had a racial problem."
Goddam Reagan was such a bastard.

Way to completely miss my point. Or prove it I guess...im undecided.

Do i approve of everything Bush has done? Course not. Do I feel hes done a better job as president than Gore or Kerry would have done? Yes. I voted for the man both times, and I support my vote even though I dont agree with 100% of what hes done in 8 years.

You can honestly come and tell me you approve 100% of what Gore or Kerry offered during their attempts? What Clinton accomplished/faultered in during his 8 years? Does not change the fact that I do not regret my vote one bit. And for what it's worth, had I been able to I would have voted for Clinton over Dole.

Lesser of evil or voting for someone, doesn't matter to me. As long as people learn about who they are supporting (or voting against) with as little bias and as much actual education as they can, more power to them. My quip remains, and don't take this part as an attack against anyone who has posted here, with the people who basically just spout off "Bush sucks" without any substance because their english 101 friend has a "W Not The President" or a "Change we can believe in" patch sewed on their backpack.

I think Kirin was talking about grandstanding and/or bandwagon. I'd agree w/ that.

Wow you must really have a low opinion of Gore / Kerry, considering Bush has basically desecrated the Bill of Rights, conspired to lie to the American populace in order to initiate war, and pretty much fail at everything else of importance that happened during his tenure as president.

I don't think Gore or Kerry would have saved us from Iraq, and neither will Obama. The UNSCR already expires in Jan2009, any "I'm pulling the troops out" from him is really just doing what was already going to happen.

Didn't a panel run by Democrats find that he didn't lie?

I do have a very VERY poor opinion of Gore. Both for reasons dealing with Him, Tipper, and Lieberman's tinkering with electronic media and video games/music in general, and Gore alone moreso for the global warming "doomsday" hysteria. My opinion of Kerry isnt necessarily bad, I just felt his ideas were less developed than Bush's were during their respective campaigns and debates.

Maybe, but he did believe they had WMD's, and after 9/11, I don't think you can reliably say what anyone would have done.

Studies conducted on 'issue awareness' during these past 2 Bush terms would depress you then. Specifically, there was an embarrissingly (and /cut inducing) huge disparity between Bush and Kerry voters on the accurate knowledge of important issues.

Bush voters displayed a consistent lack of awareness on both Bush policies and on the events of importance in general.

I'm not inclined to take Kirin seriously when he complains about stupid bandwagoners when he still believes Bush has done a better job than Gore and Kerry potentially would have. You're more than welcome to your shitty opinions, but resorting to calling your peers who disagreed with them "bandwagoners" is pretty weak. It's nothing but a feel-good tactic to prop yourself up over your own demographic. Regardless of an individual's interest in political intricacies, it's not unreasonable for even a layman to sum up the PATRIOT act, weaker international relations, the terribly justified and adminstered Iraq war, poor Katrina response, etc and say "bush sucks."

It's incredibly ironic that you criticize people for voting haphazardly, yet you consider the climate change crisis to be hysteria. I guess criticizing the electorate for being uninformed only applies to "liberals" for you?

While the Bush/Cheney didn't out-and-out "lie", they certainly mislead the media and public opinion into believing things that were false.

Such as Cheney and other exec.branch officials repeatedly linking Saddam, Anthrax, Terrorism, etc. Such as selectively reading intelligence briefings and either explicitly or implicitly guiding our intelligence agencies what their findings should be. Such as the deliberate manipulation of Powell in order to mislead the UN.

he was reacting to bush's bluster about wmds, sure saddam could've had some. gore wanted the international community blah blah blah.

however his main point in a speech given in 2002 was that al-qaeda and OBL are the targets that america should be persuing.

I think it's reliable to say any other american president would have persued OBL/AQ instead of invading iraq to get vengeance for daddy

    oh jesus

"Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.

"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable,"
She sounds so informed. But this is what the McCain camp needs, fearmongering from the hockey mom.

You're right Beckwin, except that that same bandwagon sentiment is expressed on the other side too. Which is why when...

    • 84% of Bush supporters incorrectly assumed that Bush favors including labor and environmental standards in trade agreements
    • 69% believed Bush favors US participation in the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty
    • 66% assumed Bush favors US participation in the International Criminal Court
    • 72% believed Bush favors US joining in the international treaty banning land mines
    • 51% assumed Bush supports the Kyoto Treaty on global warming

And that probably sums up the pseudo-intellectuals only. I don't think we can expect everyone to read all the various literature out there but I dunno what the middle ground is.

You assume that's a good thing.

Yes the 'war' has fucked alot of things up but you have no idea what would have happened if Osama still had Saddam Hussein to support him.
