We've had this discussion at least twice before on these boards, so I'm not going to go into much detail here, but you don't have to be John McMoneybucks to not know how many houses you have off of the top of your head. There's plenty of "middle-class" people who would have been stumped on that question too.

I fundamentally disagree with the last statement there, but ok i guess that's a separate discussion.

Plus, I like how pointing out that McCain has money is supposed to be a shot against him. Being successful in this country is a bad thing? Honestly, speaking purely economically, I would rather vote for someone who has 6-7 cars than someone who makes $170,000 a year (and has for the last 30 years) and is in debt (Joe Biden).

and like i replied to Tyche, "hating on rich" isn't the point. The point is John McMoneybucks is accusing OneCar obama of being McMoneybucks with all the "out of touch" and country club attacks associated with it.

I doubt there are any "middle class" people that are unable to recall off the top of their heads the 1-2 houses they may own. I don't mind that McCain labeled middle class as people making $5 mill since Obama answered that question with a joke too. The point in my mind at least is that McCain seemingly has no interest in the financial situation of him and his wife, something that puts him out of touch with how most American families deal with their finances.

To me the fact that he has money isn't a bad thing, it's that he is out of touch with his own financial situation, which along with his own numerous admissions about lack of understanding/interest in the national economy speaks of his involvement as president in economic matters. Also, in terms of being successful isn't Obama a better republican stereotype of success? He pulled himself by his own bootstraps making him who he is today instead of falling ass backwards into money because you ditched your first wife?

I know more than one family who wouldn't be considered rich who at any one time own 4-5 houses that they rent out. My roommate's family is one of them and this very thing came up a couple of years ago when I asked them how many houses they owned and it took them 5+ minutes to figure it out. The thing is: they don't live in them, they don't directly pay for them, they just own them.

It's not unreasonable or terribly uncommon for some middle class people to have multiple houses as investments, having mortgages on each of them and using rental income to pay for them while slowly building equity. They are by no means rich and a lot of them got owned by the housing market, meaning they're worse off than people with a single home these days.
