No, I agree with his definition of regressive. I just say that in order for it to be regressive as aurik defines it, it has to be assumed that the full amount of money someone earns in a year is never spent. If that's true, then I agree with him.

This reliance on complete expenditure in a taxed environment is one of the key reasons fairtax is absolutely unfair. How many middle/lower/poverty-class people do you know that spend any amount of money in foreign economies?

Ok, now ask yourself: do rich people spend/invest in foreign economies?

Unless your so-called FairTax starts taxing people who take fancy vacations to Europe, it fails the regressiveness test.

I've said plenty of times that there are "what if" scenarios that will make it regressive, but I don't believe those instances are the norm.

I've also said that regardless of the "what if" scenarios I still believe it's better than what we have now which is the main point.

Don't know if i got what you're saying, Demos, but any oil drilled by the US will go to the global market, and if you want to keep the oil for local use, then you will be nationalizing oil. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it is just not something i'd expect someone who is anti socialism or communism to be for.
