I don't understand what you are saying here at all. McCain is trying to sound like the president by saying he needs to go back to washington and fix things?

Few pages late but it needs to be said, because it is scientific FACT
That was the joke, it was blindingly obvious that you were just regurgitating what you just read in a book, because you messed up half of it and clearly have no clue what you're talking about when you start blabbing about THE SAME NEURONS and PHYSICAL CHANGE.

    prove me wrong then lol
I know I'm right here. Regurgitating what you read in a political column is one thing, but this is scientific fact dude...
I've left out a few things because I don't want to butcher it, but most of it is very accurate.

You can't just whine and say "ya rite" to cognitive scientists. They don't work in theory. lol

You butchered it very badly because you understood practically nothing from the book, you're completely oblivious to that, and you hide behind the idea that "scientists don't work in theory". I'm at a loss for words, this is a new low, even from you.

Keep posting meaningless bullshit about THE SAME NEURONS, we'll keep laughing.

Wait wait wait, did I read this right? Are you implying that neurons have party affiliations?

I thought he meant neutral as in positive or negative neural responses associated with the word vs maverick having a positive response

He is right though; you are butchering the concept, and i can't help but cringe with the way you're defending it. You're making it seem like you're using science as a shield.

How the word maverick is more positive than the word hope.

It's not about positive in the aspect of the word itself, but when you hear the word "maverick" neutrons that relate that word with conservatism and McCain also fire or something along those lines. I was a little confused at this part when he was talking but it's just been a day now so I can't remember exactly >.> he did specify the difference between maverick and change/hope specifically and why the neurons respond differently

It's about a "positive" respond from neurons

I'd love to read his book, as I'm quite in the dark about how something that is a "science" doesn't seem to hold up for over 50% of the population. I think his conjecture about more recent political theater is actually just that: conjecture. I think there is plenty of cognitive science to study from previous elections, but drawing too many conclusions about its practice and success in the current election can be just a little too presumptuous when its unlikely the "science" is really out there to back it up in large quantity and with corroborating studies. I'm not saying he's wrong, I'm just saying he's trying to be a little too far ahead of the curve.

...No, i'm saying he's been running his campaign like he's already president. During the Georgia conflict, he "dispatched" ambassadors, he and Sera have been trying meeting with foreign heads of state, etc. He's being horribly transparent with his campaign, and with this move.

If McCain is treating this like he is president, obama should call him on it and mention if he is going to suspend his presidential work when something like this comes up. Things like that make very lasting impressions on people.

It's pretty simple, really. Words like "maverick" and "game-changer" and "Sarah barracuda" are attributed to the two Republican candidates. These words provoke imagery of stalwart heroes saving the day and tough renegades fighting for the everyman.

"Change" and "hope" are all well and good, but there is no target meaning for them. Change to what? Hope for what? That has to be defined individually, which is why McCain can adopt them so readily in his own campaign. Everyone has their own hopes and changes they can attach to these "neutral words."

Unless you play too much Megaman X, mavericks can be counted on to stick up for the little guy in the face of those in power, whether it be masked outlaws or the current administration. These words aren't inherently politicized, but are forcefully attached to either party through campaign mantra. So, once that is set, even though Obama may deride McCain's "maverick" claim, saying that word in reference to him triggers the cognitive link and those warm and fuzzy feelings get attached to McCain.

I think that's sort of what you've been getting at, but were focusing on the underlying science of the brain.

Did you forget when Obama gave his Berlin speech?

Or the Presidential seal of the united states of Obama?

When I think of "maverick", I actually think about how terrible the 80s were

Getting away from the psychology of linguistics (a fascinating study but probably for another thread?), anyone catch Palin's CBS interview?

    http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4476649n

Any reactions? A lot of people said she got destroyed but I didn't think she did too horrible outside of her spouting the usual talking points. Then again, her bar is pretty low.

Oh god Katie Couric and Palin talking to each other for an extended period of time...is there just some text transcript out there or something so I don't inject pain into my head from listening to the two of them talking?
