You don't just think a certain way, it's because of something. More than likely, this is from frames and metaphor in our brain
Even so, the effect I'm describing isn't politically corruptible in a sense that no party can really be better at it. There are diehards on both sides who will vote for their candidate even if he stands against their own personal beliefs because they have already defined themselves that way. Even if there were no metaphor/frame associations in their mind for a candidate, they would still be hesitant to change their vote - thats human nature.

edit: And yeah, arguing about this is really stupid lol. There aren't even many fundamental, substantive disagreements in this BRAIN DEBATE especially when compared to actual political issues. There are better things to talk about in this thread!

yea, I guess it's more of a general nature than politics. I think they employ the strategies for the guys on the fence though, not the die hards

If you do this McCain, I would not blame pretty much every network for actually endorsing Obama. You think the media treats you bad now? Well check out what happens when you shit in their faces. Hell, by all accounts (except yours, of course) you actually made the thing you sought to help worse. Nothing ignites partisan fire like presidential candidates.

Let's just make a glowing documentary highlighting how great Obama is to air instead of the non-debates.

If he doesnt happen to show up for the debate, in my mind i would think he has reached even lower on my lil personal respect scale. This is something i'm really looking forward to, and i believe this would be a very bad move on mccain's part.

As someone who is a cognitive scientist, this is actually my precise field of study. The theories you're referencing(derivatives of the sapir-whorf hypothesis) have long been discredited as having the impact you're attributing to them.

It's generally considered true that the Orwellian concept of "newspeak" is not possible given what we do know, and the republican "list" (in which they describe terms to use when referring to republicans and another list for referring to democrats) is just fluff bullshit.

Not to be rude, but you come off as someone who just took "Introduction to linguistic communication and society", because it's clear to me you don't really understand what you're saying(or you do and choose to purposefully ignore the rest of the linguistic community).

It doesn't matter how negatively or positively you act toward something, your brain is going to have a few things firing that it associates with that word. Even when you are aware of this it happens.

It's like the frame we use for the word "bottle." We know what a bottle is, we have a pretty good picture in our minds what it is. If everyone suddenly tells you a blanket is a bottle, your brain will always fire off that initial vision of a bottle, even if it's on a subconscious level.

edit: I'm sure more than anything you want to know where I'm going with this. It's theorized that this all has a pretty significant impact on the populace. Since it's widespread use in the early 70s, Republicans have won the majority of the elections even when their candidate fails on issues. If it isn't logic about the issues which is swaying people, what is?
So I finally read through this entire neuron bullshit. Link some papers prs? I want to know who's talking out of their ass.

I wasn't talking about any of that...
I admit I don't know a lot about this other than a few books, george lakoff, and the cognitive science professors at my own school but what I gathered was quite different from what you are saying.

I'll take your word for it and quit derailing this thread

JP Morgan owns it now. It's essentially a Chase Bank now. It's unknown atm if they will close some brances and rename the few left or keep it under WaMu title.

I hope they close em! I owe $80 in overdraft fees. HA!

So McCain suspends his campaign so he can go to Washington to fix the economy. But it takes him 26 hours to get there, and when he does get there, he just sits there speechless and does nothing. And this is the man people want for President?

Can anyone confirm what i heard? I heard that Republicans rejected the measures because they didn't want something to do with judges and bankruptcy and that they also wanted to lower the capital gains tax. Is this why?
