I don't know why all you guys are so concerned about SwampDonkeyPLD. He's not a person, he's a character. I doubt he believes like 90% of the stuff he posts outside of this online forum setting. His purpose is to find an opening in your post and turn it around into a point of attack. It's pointless to try and get a straight answer from him, because he will never put himself in a position of having to defend his personally held beliefs.

I think his core positions are genuine, but I think a lot of his posts are dishonest. Like "I would be comfortable with supporting Palin for president," or the evasive posting of the last few pages. He doesn't show himself as a person and just bobs and weaves.

Conservatives haven't done that since William Buckley and Barry Goldwater :\ and doesnt the new prime minister have the problem of the LDP being pretty unpopular atm (and iirc from the economist there being some factional divisions as to who should be prime minister?) and there not being a new election for a long time?

Well, the LDP has won like a billion elections in a row, so I don't think they're too concerned with popularity over implementing their policies. :D Since WWII, I think they lost only once. Taro Asou also pretty much blew away the other candidates with something like 350+ votes, while no one else made triple digits. I dunno, things are really weird... the Liberal Democratic Party is conservative, and the Democrats are liberal... also the LDP has basically jury-rigged the electoral system to keep themselves in power.

I do believe most of the stuff I post. And the only beliefs I've never put myself in a position to defend are the ones I don't post about, religion, abortion, and gay rights. And religion is probably the only one that would go against the majority opinion of this board.
