It's possible to be both, but then one could make the case that any "smart move intellectually" would be a "smart political move". Pointing out that it can be both, doesn't clarify why you would cite it as a political move. Your statements still need proper justifications to support them.

What I'm saying... you claim his choice was political, but you could make a case for any VP selection being political. What I'm saying is, this decision was not an obvious political choice. We didn't hear the pundants and analysts declare on mass Biden as VP. Your justification of him picking Biden could be used for 95% of the people in congress. So why is picking Biden specifically... a political decision over picking someone like John Edwards. Because if Hillary would of been a clear political move, and any older white male, according to your criteria, would of been a political move, who would you deem to clearly not be a political choice that was even a candidate.
    But...What are you saying?

Wouldn't "common sense" be following what the general mass would assume to be the proper choice?

If Biden wasn't touted as being the obvious (or any) pick for Obama...

And common sense is what the general mass would assume to be the proper choice...

And a political move would fly in the face of common sense...

Dammit I'm close but I just can't connect the contradictions

Biden was one of the candidates. He wasn't touted by the pundants because there were quite a few good candidates on foreign policy. It would be common sense to pick someone to fill any gaps, and someone who might provide a unique perspective. Biden was one of many that could of filled that position. It was really going to come down to someone like Biden, or someone like Hilary. Hilary would of been the obvious political choice. He did not go that route and picked someone more qualified, and brought a lot to the table. It was a smart decision. This decision was no more political then any other option. If that's the case, why bother pointing it out.

It's hypocritical if either party comments on it at this point. The problem was the republicans were using this as a key point against Obama. Now they turn and make a political move to gain the votes of people who could care less about the issues. If McCain is all about experience, what does she bring to the table other then a pretty face and tits?

If Obama is all about change and being outside of the Washington establishment, why did he choose someone who's been a Senator for 36 years?

    A) Political reasons obviously
    B) Biden would be a good adviser
    C) AFAIK he's relatively well liked abroad, which Obama doesn't need politically, but can be useful for a VP since the Veep has the time to go do PR

Because change doesn't mean that you can't get advice from people who have been in politics for a lot longer then you. Do you think that Biden is going to convert him into some cross between the two? Obama's agenda hasn't changed, and now he has someone with a great deal of experience behind him. Abraham Lincoln did the same thing with his cabinet, even inviting people cross party, which is almost unheard of today. Does make what he did was any less meaningful?

It's already been discussed in this thread, but hardcore conservatives don't like McCain, putting someone like Palin alongside him gets them back on his side. The choice of Palin isn't there to turn Democrats or independents over to his side, it's to get the Republicans behind him.

If the Republicans want to get worked up over a figurehead, by all means. It just goes to reinforces political stereotypes. The issues don't matter, the qualifications don't matter, it's all about the T&A. We talk about experience, look at the things Obama said early in his days in politics compared to her. Look at what he's accomplished in his short time in the political arena. The reason people like him isn't because he's young, it's because he has a real vision. We haven't had someone like that sense the Kennedy's. She fights for the continued extintion of wildlife and to have fairy tails taught in schools. I guess that might be exciting to someone who hate the separation of church and state.

ALL REPUBLICANS CARE ABOUT IS GETTING CREATIONISM TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS, NOTHING ELSE. You're fucking retarded. It's possible to support someone without supporting all their views. I doubt most people support Obama's views on infanticide but they still support him.

And look at what Obama has accomplished in his short time in office? Do I really need to respond?

My point isn't that "ALL REPUBLICANS CARE ABOUT IS GETTING CREATIONISM TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS", it's that she does. It's a ignorant position to take. Her positions don't set her apart from other much more experienced counterparts. Why her?

    Edit:
And look at what Obama has accomplished in his short time in office? Do I really need to respond?
A great deal more then her. Not even taking into account his work before he got into office.
