I remember seeing or reading something recently that made the following analogy:
football : war :: pornography : sex
It's not my money - it's their money. I said my family was wealthy. Frankly, I would prefer that upon their passing I would receive no more than 10% of their estate and the rest would go back to the government as a tax.
That's right I said it - I favor a 90% estate tax. Why? Because dead people don't need any fucking money, and their offspring didn't fucking earn it.
Inheritances make people LAZY and makes families TOO POWERFUL.
I'm not reading through the thread, but 9pm on CBS = VP Debates, oh lawds.
we're talking fortunes, not pittances when you're down and out.
That was more of an attempt at humor than an actual argument. What is that though? #3 on Karl Marx's list of 10 things in order for a commie state to come about?
Inheritance is a bit of a problem for any economic system.
yes, marx does talk about estate/inheritances. and he's right.
It just seems hypocritical, or that might be to harsh so inconsistent maybe, to me to say in one instance someone is entitled to money they didn't earn and in another they aren't. I also think the only reason Marx believed that was to create a disincentive for someone to be productive or be "capitalist".
The whole concept of entitlement to money is more so a capitalist concept than a communist concept, in my opinion. If i'm not mistaken, in a communist system you're not allowed to not work.
Oh that's true, it might make more sense in argument against socialism I guess.
