It's already been discussed in this thread, but hardcore conservatives don't like McCain, putting someone like Palin alongside him gets them back on his side. The choice of Palin isn't there to turn Democrats or independents over to his side, it's to get the Republicans behind him.

It's a horrible strategy. Policy wise Palin is almost the polar opposite of Hillary, in Palin's initial speech she mentions breaking the glass ceiling because Hillary couldn't.

As the campaign goes on all dems need to do is slowly hammer the point that women shouldn't be voting with their vagina, and eventually all but the completely retarded ones will be shamed(as they SHOULD be) into switching back or they just won't vote.

As someone stated, its definitely a ploy to pick up angry Hillary supporters, but I doubt it will work well because most women (according to what i've read) are just insulted by the choice. Of all the women in the nation in politics who have extensive experience and years of service in politics, he picks THIS chick? Its basically like saying, "oh, you wanted a woman? Hmmm ok here's one!" as if we're all interchangeable. Its pretty sickening. She has a measly BA, before she was governor (which she has only been for 1.5 years) she was MAYOR of a SMALL town in Alaska (not even a big city, just a little tiny town) and she was like... a PTA president before that. I mean really? THAT is what you call qualified? At least Obama is educated and has a law degree. Also, she's probably going to LOSE the "mom vote" because most responsible moms look up to women who put their children first in their lives. Most moms with 4-5 kids can't even find time to use the bathroom, take a shower or sit down to rest a moment, and this woman wants to be second in command of the country? (and possibly commander in chief, because let's be real here, McCain already has one foot into the grave anyway.) I don't think the mom vote will really appreciate that. Read around, many women are actually outraged by this pick.

Its a gamble, and a huge one for McCain, and I am not so sure it will pay off like he plans.

As far as choosing Joe Biden... people complained that Obama wouldn't have enough international relations experience, so he chose someone with TONS of it to back him up. Good choice imo. McCain chooses a chick with no experience to back him up, which is fine except he's nearly dead (so that's a problem) but his downfall is his temperament, and she seems to have a pretty catty temperament herself, so she does nothing to supplement his shortcoming.
