I should never be paying for someone to go to the doctor for a stomach ache.
I should never be paying for tests someone may not even need.

I'm curious to know about this magical method of finding out when a stomach ache isn't anything serious, or whether someone needs a test without actually going to a doctor (or PA, or various other licensed medical personnel as appropriate) and getting those "useless" tests done

A 75 year old elderly citizen who has a pre-existing heart condition will not be in your "pool," he will pay the same premium as other comparable insureds. You, being a healthy 20 year old will not be affected at all. The only difference is now insurance companies will have to insurance the 75 year old.

5k is freaking nothing. Two-night stay in a hospital could easily cost twice that much. Plus, if you can't get insurance because of your preexisting conditions, money just won't remedy the situation.

My understanding from his debate tonight is that he will negotiate with the insurance companies to force them to low the rate. He also mentioned about digitizing medical records and implementing other measures to reduce cost of operation for hospitals, which will then pass the savings to patients.

I call BS. I work in Healthcare... The government turns down approx. 90% of the insurance claims, and the hospitals are left eating the bill. This is why medications and supplies are at a 400% or more mark up. Universal Healthcare, if run like medicare/medicaide, will not cost the American People any more then it already does. Bottom line is all claims are reviewed and if not needed, denied. It will ease complaints, make it easier for the people who actually need it get it, and it will create a little more work force. McCain's plan to give everyone a 5k tax credit will be mostly a waste of American dollars because the majority of it is gonna be wasted on stupid shit.

You answered your own question. You honestly think the hospitals will just pay for the bills themselves? If hospitals are marking medications and supplies, who end up suffering? Other patients (taxpayers) who also go to that hospital. It's great that you work in healthcare, that's my major in college and used to have discussions about possible measures to resolve this healthcare debacle.
