I think that the reason that McCain is starting to back off with his attacks may be because it's starting to get out of his hands; it would be terrible if because of his rhetoric he indirectly incited Obama's assassination.http://www.elpais.com/articulo/inter...lpepiint_2/Tes

    more questionable associations for mccain!

How close are McCain and Liddy? At least as close as Obama and Ayers appear to be. In 1998, Liddy's home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns -- including $1,000 this year.

Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as "an old friend," and McCain sounded like one. "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family," he gushed. "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

Which principles would those be? The ones that told Liddy it was fine to break into the office of the Democratic National Committee to plant bugs and photograph documents? The ones that made him propose to kidnap anti-war activists so they couldn't disrupt the 1972 Republican National Convention? The ones that inspired him to plan the murder (never carried out) of an unfriendly newspaper columnist?

Liddy was in the thick of the biggest political scandal in American history -- and one of the greatest threats to the rule of law. He has said he has no regrets about what he did, insisting that he went to jail as "a prisoner of war."

74% of CEO's think Obama would be disastrous for the U.S. Think they're being honest or just saying that because he would tax them and they don't want him in charge?

I would prefer to see what economists think, but i think aurik was the one who posted that, and they said that Obama would be best, but not by much.

Shame his campaign advisers didn't give a fuck what he thought and ran whatever they wanted
Ya know.. this is the same mistake that Hillary's campaign made during the primaries. Both McCain and Hillary didn't take enough control of their staff and advisors, and let them move constantly in a direction that put off millions of voters. The reason it was more amplified in the general election race is that there are millions of independent and non-primary voters who are pissed off now.

They're being mostly honest - they think Obama would be disastrous. For their multi-million dollar bonuses. Considering the bullshit that we've been subjected to starting with trickle-on Reagan and continuing to this conclusion with the Delay/Abramoff Congress and Bush 43's pen, the only reason they have to poll this way is that they're afraid that their days of raping the taxpayer are done.

    -----

It doesn't matter who the hell is president next - the damage is already done. Millions of jobs are going to disappear. Thousands of companies are going to disappear. People are going to be driven poor by this - unfortunately not the ones who deserve it most. What matters now is when the bleeding stops, are we gonna keep bitching about whose plan is best like we've been doing blindly since the 1980s, or are we gonna come together to collectively pull ourselves out of it like we did in the 1930s.

At a McCain event, as the crowd waited for McCain himself to arrive, Pastor Arnold Conrad of the Grace Evangelical Free Church of Davenport, Iowa, gave an invocation that included the following: “I would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and Election Day.”

The report also raises the suggestion that the final incident that led to Monegan's firing was perhaps the most (unintentionally) hilarious part of the whole saga. In the run-up to Alaska's 2008 Police Memorial Day event, Monegan visited Palin in Anchorage and brought along an official portrait of a state trooper in uniform, saluting in front of the police memorial in Anchorage, for Palin to sign and present at the event. The trooper? Mike Wooten.

74% think he'd be "disastrous"? Disastrous? Really? Seems a bit...extreme, the type of extreme I'd probably be too if I was looking at losing hundreds of thousands of dollars a year or more.

Holy shit, you read some terrible conspiratorially thinking websites.

Do you just inundate yourself with this shit and not even try reading editorials that don't consider liberals the devil? Seriously.

There's no point in commenting much on the article; its no surprise that the people who benefit most from deregulation, laissez-faire, and lower taxes on high incomes will be scared of democrats. That fact comes out every election.

CEO's won't lose that. They will pass it on to the consumers... and when that doesn't work the will lay off workers, and cut down on employee benefits (raises, pension plans, etc.).

In the end youre looking at higher unemployment and higher cost of living. I think that's the angle the disastrous comment is coming from.

That 'higher unemployment' only comes from greed. If CEOs cut back on jobs just so they can keep cashing 3 million dollar paychecks instead of 2.7 million dollars, then that is all the more reason for them to get fucked in the end.

From everything I hear, if say the payroll tax is raised and employers are forced to lay off employees how is this going to be a good thing being that corporate tax already is as high as it is. I'm not talking massive fortune 500 companies, I'm talking regular run of the mill places. I don't see how a tax increase without a cut in government spending will help. I don't see how socializing health care and forcing people to pay into a system that more than likely will never see the benefits from.

Example, what's my motivation to work and work and work till I'm 65~70 and putting in a contribution every two weeks if the guy down the road is putting in zero. Why is this something that we're saying is a good thing?

How is it a good thing to force researchers to give away what they find for free? I invent the AIDS vaccine and now government is forcing me to give it away for free? How is that going to produce more inventions if I'm forced to give away my research for free. Maybe I'm not understanding something here but to me socializing health care and making people pay into something that everyone benefits from to me is a horrible idea. Then again, I think the concept of welfare and paying people for sitting around doing nothing and taking a paycheck while trying to screw the system is a crock of shit too.
