Not saying it should be vilified, I'm saying making an exorbitant amount of money while others suffer and being a selfish prick about it is socially irresponsible.

    Being lucky is wrong?

Sometimes people make more money than you do just for being in the right place at the right time. It's the other side of 'shit happens' and I can't really look down on it because everyone wishes they were luckier than they currently are.

I think that reasonably equalizing the playing field and removing some of the luck factor is a good thing. Just because luck does exist as a prime determinant of your status doesn't mean it has to. It's surely not fair, and fairness I think is a pretty good goal to have.

Debating an entire message boards of Dems isnt exactly my idea of a good time. But anyways, what entitles someone to my hard earned money? My step-dad (no, i dont live with my parents) is an ER surgeon saving peoples lives on a daily basis, and he gets paid very well for it. What entitles the burger flipper at McDonalds to his wealth?

Also LMAO at that video, at least we can all agree that was hilarious.

Except you can't legislate away luck. What are you going to do, raise the tax burden of someone who wins the lottery to 90%? Claim eminent domain on every treasure randomly found on U.S. soil?

Do you even have the most basic understanding of redistribution of wealth? It's not like they write the burger flipper a check. And giving health insurance to said burger flipper is probably going to make your dad's job a lot easier now that his ER isn't flooded with the uninsured exploiting his hospital for primary care.

It's almost as if people believe we have zero forms of socialism already in place in our current government.

I wonder why people have this attitude. All that would be asked is to distribute SOME of your wealth, not all of it. Ideally, compassion should be an innate quality, not a legally required one. Ask yourself what's more important in the long run: providing an underprivileged kid with a college education or buying your fourth Rolex? Compensating the educators who taught you how to make the extreme amount of money you're making or going on another cruise to Tahiti?

Socialist policy simply exists to build a stronger sense of society and community. The policies only exist to provide for a better, more secure future for our country. Why is it so hard for conservatives to grasp this?

It was a basic analogy, thank you for taking it literally. Obviously universal healthcare will help the healthcare system in America, I wasnt talking about that either. But why should people who work hard for their money have to give more of it up to run programs for people that dont work nearly as hard.

Im not saying i dont admire the guy who works 2 jobs at low pay to support his family, but said guy should take pride in knowing that he does. He shouldnt demand free handouts. Take pride in what you do for yourself, not what others do for you.

It's not giving him a his money(as stated before). It's letting the Bush tax cuts expire. And in place of the Bush tax cuts it's giving the middle/lower class people a tax cut.

That's what Republicans do. Once people start calling them on their bullshit they cry "WAAAHH, there's so many Democrats here, I'm so alone! BAWWW liberal media!!!!"

Universal healthcare is one such program that benefits those who don't make as much (and for the love of god please stop saying it's because they don't work nearly as hard as Example A, B or C). And it would be funded by the very thing you hate. Yet you have no real problem with universal healthcare.

    Ahem.

Why is your argument shifting away from socialism/redistribution of wealth to the self-esteem issues of the downtrodden? No wonder you don't like debating, you're terrible at it.

Why do all the conservatives on this board vehemently attribute poor with laziness and rich with hardwork? Have you heard of "Golden Parachute"? A clause in an employment contact rewards executives handsomely regardless success or failure? Do you know the ex-ceo of AIG, who literally bankrupted the company, got 20 million dollars just for stepping down? So did the ex-ceo of many failed banks including Merill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, etc in the last 20 months. It baffles me as to why you sympathsize with the rich, many of who already have a leg up in the financial system, yet criticize those who suffer due to circumstances more often than not out of their control.

Nobody takes pride in having to do three times the work for half the pay some other guy is getting for a third of the effort.
