In April, the Los Angeles Times published an article about a going-away dinner for Khalidi that Obama attended in Chicago, Illinois, in 2003. Khalidi was leaving to become a professor at Columbia.

At an event with Jewish voters in Boca Raton, Florida, in May, Obama said that he knows Khalidi through teaching at the University of Chicago and because their children attended the same school.

Obama said he is a "scholar, although he vehemently disagrees with a lot of Israel's policy."

"To pluck out one person who I know and who I've had a conversation with who has very different views than 900 of my friends and then to suggest that somehow that shows that maybe I'm not sufficiently pro-Israel, I think, is a very problematic stand to take," Obama said. "So we've got to be careful about guilt by association."

I'm all for legalizing pot, but one of the big reasons for it being illegal is because it's a "gateway drug". At first I thought this was just a load of crap but looking back on it, it is very true. Many of my friends that started on pot progressively moved up the drug list up to but not restricted to acid.

I'm starting to see it in my brother as well. He would tell me how he would never do coke, mushrooms or acid a year ago, and now he seems like he's craving for it.

I also contribute the "gateway" factor to social groups. If you smoke with your friends, chances are one of them will have done a more psychedelic drug in the past or in the future. I think you can see where I'm going with this.

I'm going to stop there since this is not the topic to be discussing it.

The bullshit about it being a "gateway" drug is not one of them. That is nothing more than a D.A.R.E. type argument that has nothing to do with the legality.

I didn't say it was bad for your health, but "leads" to other drugs. I can't back that up with scientific proof other than anecdotes. It's also the start of a slippery slope argument, and I don't like to touch on it.



For one, I didn't believe entirely that substances lead to other substances. I contribute a lot of that to social networks. I probably should have made my first sentence clear because that is not my opinion based on fact, that is a statement based on opinions from others.

Had the possibility that people try pot, go "lawlz this is nothing like they said it was going to be, they're so full of shit, probably the same with anything else" is more likely to lead them to trying more shit than if pot was considered "ok" and things beyond it were the ones we were teaching people they shouldn't do?

The Cartels not allowing it to happen is one big part.


There's also the cotton industry, and the tobacco industry (hemp > cotton, pot used to create both drugs and hemp/oil is a way more profitable product than tobacco and able to be grown much more widely).


Then there's the fear mongering for decades and decades making it an extremely tough issue for politicians to approach (imagine if Obama wanted to legalize/decriminalize, there would be a huge deal about how we can't have a president that's soft on drugs).



But, the sad reality at this point is that the main reason they won't do it is because it's just too huge of a way for cops to fuck with people they have no business fucking with. (read: black people, teenagers)
