...My post wasn't about McCain at all. It was all Obama.

She is afraid of positions that Obama doesn't have.

    I'm guessing you are too.

are you trying to suggest that we shouldn't have universal health care due to the waiting times?

If we were talking about full mandatory socialized health care like Canada or the UK, that *might* be a valid concern. Health insurance reform is very different. Try actually reading up on the proposals you attempt to criticize, rather than just going "ZOMG ITS SOCIALIZED MEDICINE, MUST HAVE WAITING LINES AND SUCK BAD".

Edit: If you think the waiting lines are really as bad as your anti-universal-health-care buddies tell you, try asking some actual Canadians or Brits. They'll tell you that in the vast, vast, vast majority of cases, the wait for non-critical stuff is an annoyance at worst, and if you actually need critical care, you get it done NOW. There's a reason that their systems result in healthier citizens overall, it's called proper priorities.

I dunno by the end of this decade 200k Britain's a year expected to be going outside the country for medical operations. That seems like a high number if socialized medicine isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

I would flip out if my daughter or son got put on some of those waiting lists. For people who can afford health care its nothing but an increased hindrance. I'm sure you can find some middle ground between the two instead of leaping into something else that's obviously flawed.

So the 40 million Americans that aren't covered now are suddenly going to be covered? Are we going to have enough new doctors to take care of all these new patients? Massachusetts couldn't handle 600k new patients.

I haven't the slightest idea about the specifics hes proposing nor McCain. If he or either of them can work something out without screwing over the people already covered then hey that's fantastic. I was responding to the notion that we should merely adopt another countries universal health care system.

I wonder if Swampy has ever been to an emergency room in the US before.. Last time I was there with my friend (her dog bit me on my face.. LONG fuckin' story) it took 6 damn hours before we even got called to see a doctor. And that's with basic medical insurance. Wait times my ass - it's a fucking red herring issue.

Edit: Mind you this was at Yale-New Haven Hospital, one of the top medical teaching facilities in the country.

Sounds like someone is mismanaging a business to me, and I'm pretty sure it crosses party lines. I guess that's what happens when you let someone take control of something that has nothing at stake.

My favorite was when somebody in some speech @ the RNC said "You don't want a BUREAUCRAT deciding on issues with your doctor, do you?" and I was like "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW?"

If there was a free-market, yes. But it's not a free-market if the government suddenly increases supply, nor is it a free-market now.

And I've been to an emergency room twice for myself, and once for someone else.

That's a dickhead argument to propose since more doctors isn't an instantaneous thing, and they've been recruited medical personnel from my generation since I was 7.

not something I'd be against, but they'd have to be made citizens and do some undergrad time here or evaluation etc. Speaking english would be good.
