Are you kidding me? McCain can't string together a thought without a teleprompter. Obama is a DAMN good speaker, even at times when he pulls things right off the top of his head.

edit: And holy shit at the vice president debates, Palin is going to get buttfucked hard. I would be scared shitless if I had to be on the same stage as biden.

If everyone keeps talking about how much better a debater Biden is than Palin, that just works in her favor. Pretty soon, expectations are going to be so low for her that if she just manages to FIND the stage she'll be declared the winner.

I want to see Bruce Fein debate the two candidates.

Frankly I would be shocked if she could get that far without her vagina coughing out another kid, or her bitching because there isn't enough Jesus represented on the stage.

You know Obama talks about God and stuff a lot too. I can't imagine he could find his way on stage without the help of Allah.

If Biden can keep his lying under check, he'll probably smoke Palin for the VP debates.

I'm actually hearing Palin is an extremely good debater and isn't afraid of bullies (biden has been known to be a bully in debate)

John McCain knows far more about what he believes in than Obama; I can't wait for that debate to see if Obama can pull it together

John McCain doesn't have a platform; if anything regarding actual policy comes up he'll be destroyed.

Serious question, did you do debate club or any debating at all in HS/College?? No offense, but you don't seem to know a whole lot about it.

But such clear and convincing arguments have come up in this thread.

This will be a big defining factor during the debates. Obama is very wishywashy when pressed with "hard" issues, Mccain has his opinions pretty much set in stone. I can't remember when it was, but there was a talk with both of them like 2 months ago, asking them their opinion on various issues. Mccain answered each question almost instantly, Obama would usual fumble through or just flat out avoid giving a definitive answer.

Debating is a lot like...what's a good correlation?

Debating is like a beauty pageant...

Your intelligence and experience isn't that damn important. Before you debate, you know what's coming and you know your opponents and their stands. This allows for a very very heavy amount of scripting. So, as long as you are firm in your stance and you can look damn good giving your stance, you will usually stand a pretty good chance. Think of it like the Kennedy/Nixon debate of 60. I'm sure it's been brought up several times in any history class, but Nixon was the clear winner with the radio audience, but a loser with the TV audience. Palin is strong and adamant in her views and assuming she stays mostly to script I don't see too many problems for her. More than intelligence, you'll need quick wit to improv. I don't know how she is in that department. Intelligence is vastly overrated for debates.

It's pretty easy to give a quick answer when it tends to be "noun verb P.O.W." or "my friends, we must fight for american interests" or "I'll bring real change." What absolutely baffles me is for all the criticism of Obama's rhetoric and saying he has no policy to back it up, McCain talks about policy even less.

    b. hussein's problem is that if he's not giving a speech he basically goes "um uhh um uhh ummm huhhhhhh" for about a minute before he speaks

However, I do think he will be able to beat McCain in debates, or at the very least not lose so badly that it takes an edge off of his lead.

    edit:

I've heard this before, but if it was ~1959, wouldn't that mean that only poor/old/behind the times people still only used radios? I think the televised debate viewers and the radio debate listeners would have had a really separate demographic even back then.

Feel free to show me how I am wrong here, I am just guessing

The debate will be basically: McCain making triumphant declarations with conviction, painting the world in black and white, USA fuck yeah!

Obama will speak intelligently about the issues, keep things in perspective, not make ultimatums, and seem reasonable.

People that like belligerent strength and overconfidence will love McCain. People who love rational discussion and intelligence will love Obama.

Unfortunately we live in america, so that means Obama won't come out so well.

I think b. HUSSEIN obama is getting over his... idk, academic type of q&a style of speaking. he performed pretty strong during the Bill O interview, and Bill is a pretty tough (and somewhat rude) interviewer. Considering that the presidential debates tend to be more formalized than a Bill O interview, I think he'll do fairly well now in regards to avoiding contemplative noises.

    Not necessarily.

Paul brought rational ideas and thoughts to all of the Republican debates, and every time he polled the winner. (INB4 four Paultards spamming his name)
