I'm going to make an assumption here, but I'm betting O'rielly didn't land that interview without having to give notes or prep Obama. I can't see how Obama would do that interview defenseless. With that said, I also think Obama will handle himself quite well for the aforementioned reasons.

What you can expect from any Republican candidate (minus Paul, of course) that wants to get votes.

Mccain answered each question almost instantly, Obama would usual fumble through or just flat out avoid giving a definitive answer.
I think your talking about Saddleback? If so, that wasn't really much like a debate, but yeah I can see your point about his "set-in-stone" responses. I'm not sure its going to be as useful to him in a debate setting, which while being semi scripted and plannable, still requires a fair amount of improv. McCain didnt have to be a genius to know EXACTLY what Rick Warren was going to ask him at that forum. You have to remember that Saddleback was most certainly McCains audience long before it even begun. The debates should be in a bit more neutral environment, and while McCain will have a pretty good idea what Obama will say, I think it can go a little more off script than Saddleback.

My brain shuts off when Rudy begins to speak. Imperial Hubris is on the book list Paul gives to Guiliani.

However, I do think he will be able to beat McCain in debates, or at the very least not lose so badly that it takes an edge off of his lead.

    edit:

I've heard this before, but if it was ~1959, wouldn't that mean that only poor/old/behind the times people still only used radios? I think the televised debate viewers and the radio debate listeners would have had a really separate demographic even back then.

Feel free to show me how I am wrong here, I am just guessing
87% of homes had TVs. 70 Million viewers. It's a good question, but it wasn't simply a bias decision. The difference was astounding. It was a matter of Nixon winning on Radio and Kennedy having a landslide on TV.

so incredibly fucking sad. I disagree with Paul on a lot, but I respect and agree with a lot of his views on foreign policy. And then you have a fucking toolbag like Giuliani respond with "noun verb 9/11" literally "I survived 9/11" (ok so I is a pronoun) and the dumbfucks in the audience clap it up.

Before we hand the crown over to Obama, here's some graphs to add some perspective.

I don't understand, is that a strike against Obama for prepping for an interview?

Even Square Enix requires questions be submitted prior to being interviewed about Final Fantasy XI. I thought this was a fairly standard practice. Going in blind would be pretty pointless for both sides since the interviewer is out to get as much information as they can in a limited amount of time.

I think Tyche is just trying to make a point that Obama comes off as indecisive and unsure of himself unless he's prepared for what's to come.

He is an excellent speaker no doubt, but he definitely seems to falter when he's pressed with tough questions he isn't ready for.

complex and nuanced isn't the same as indecisive and unsure.

I think i'd rather have someone who "ummm ahhh"s while they're thinking of the answer rather than and impulsive straight from the gut one. .. mccain was calling for us to invade, i mean liberate iraq pretty much on sept 12th.

Well I would agree on that point.
From what I have seen of the interview I think we may be getting some answers. As much as I do not like OReilly, I do like his agressive sit-down interviews.

I also cannot wait to get to some actual debates instead of watching everyone gorge themselves on regurgitated sound bites in lieu of actual substance from either party.

Needing time to think when asked complex questions (and we are talking seconds here, not minutes, hours or days) is a virtue, not a curse.

lol, if McCain were "uh, um, er" after he were asked a question, you guys would be all over him. You and I both know that. Calling it a good thing just makes you look like your hands are in Obama's pants

Why do you like O'Reilly's agressive interviews? Because they're entertaining?

He was comitting fallacy after fallacy and interrupting Obama whenever he tried to answer. If O'Reilly looked like Kelly Brook then maybe it'd be fun to watch.

    Um, uh, no.

This is stupid anyways. There's plenty of things to rip McCain on. Just watch any recent Daily Show. He's completely fake - even for a politician.

I just saw that daily show video of McCain and it was pretty lame. Only 2 good hypocrisy moments - the rest just LULZ REPUBLICAN.

At least McCain has soundbites from his past though...As far as records are concerned, Obama didn't even have a mouth before 2004 and never talked about the issues til 2006

It's not the "uh, um, er" that is the problem. It's the "um, uh, er, the President of Germany, Vladamir Putin, is on the warpath and we have to stop him!" that is the problem.

Consideration for questions is only an issue if it results in stupid answers.

I like them because I think they are conducted much better than his on-air ones where he'd rather cut off someone's mic than get a genuine response. I think he is much less a "character" as well, and you can see he and Obama did have points they agreed upon.

It's more interesting to me to see Obama talk to what some may consider his "arch-enemy" (very right-wing, very white) than to hear another campaign speech about failed Bush policies. Also, Bill O'Reilly's opinions or whatever fallacies he commits don't concern me, I'm in it to learn about Obama.

I watch shows like Daily Show and Bill Maher, and I find the best discussions are when people I don't agree with come on. I learn the most about them and get to see past the labels and characterizations and get to the actual knowledge/viewpoints they hold.
