this is stupid. the mainstream media has a ratings bias. this maybe news, but rupert murdoch doesn't really give a fuck about repubs/cons. he just saw an untapped market which was a chance to make more money. that's all any of this is.

obama gets more coverage than mccain, i don't think anyone would care to refute that. he is the more interesting candidate, whether you agree with his policies/personality/whatever or not. more positive and more negative. the wright thing was on for like 3 weeks, all day on all 3 channels msnbc, fn and cnn. all 3 played mccain's web ad for about a week and just echoed what it's message was.

CNN talks about the clinton/puma thing 24/7 because it gets ratings. the wolf blitzer's of the world don't have a thought in their head, they're just reading a prompter and following the narrative that the producers crafted for the week. last night they were all fawning over obama's acceptance speech (including pat buchanan) and today's news is vpilf.

tl;dr it's about ratings not liberal/conservative slant.

The 24 hour news networks, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC; rarely do their own investigative journalism anymore these days. All stations thrive on talking point memos, rather than doing any kind of work themselves.

The mouthpiece shows, (O'Reilly, Olbermann, Hannity/Colmbs, Matthews, etc...) aren't news either. They're commentary and debate at best, and theater at the worst. The only news that these guys bring are what the daily headlines or talking points are.

So, when you talk about a liberal bias, you're really debating how much these people depend on the news that they're being fed, and how they interpret the talking points they're given. Fox News has shown, that they will glady eat up any conservative talking points, and reject any liberal ones. The Obama media frenzy means that people like Obama's story, and are eating it up, ratings-wise. Networks will want more of that.

You think Obama brought those crowds, which is fine, but people might think otherwise if they knew that one/two of the most popular bands in Germany were on stage (for free) before he made his speech. I don't ever recall the media mentioning that. Same thing in Wisconsin was it? There was a free concert right before he got on stage.

Bands that asked to be booked before his speech? yeah I was aware of them. there were two, one was very well known, one was an opener they usually played with (I don't remember the name of the bands). They were not widely announced - it was publicized as an Obama speech.

It's not at all uncommon to have bands on before political rallies, by the way, here or in germany. (I can't say whether McCain has or not; because, surprise, it's a good example of something that isn't newsworthy and doesn't get reported).

the point is, most bands aren't going to draw crowds like he's drawing by themselves - see the convention where they literally put 85,000+ in those seats and there wasn't a band booked directly before him.


and to the guy who asked about the 966 references: did you bother to click through? cause going to the last page would give you a reference; it goes back to january 2006; which means it's about 1 story per day. and these are just stories that are factually incorrect in a way that favors conservative talking points, not simply stories that were spun one way or the other.


and I read the 22% liberal on Fox as an indication that all the values are about 22% high, so that would mean that (Excluding people who assume all media is liberal because they're dittoheads) the majority of non-tainted poll respondents think that neither other station is overwhelmingly liberal.
