    Connection problems at school...

    Well I'm officially starting to hate my school ;>.>

    I got FFXI up and running after having problems patching for WotG (which was solved), and after logging on for Einherjar I ran into another problem:

    I lag like a bitch. The connection speed is AWFUL. Takes me 10 seconds+ to change gear, zone, and preform other basic functions. I managed to make it to Einherjar, and was next to useless. I had at LEAST a 30 second delay between hitting macros and seeing myself cast.

    Anyone have ANY CLUE what could be causing this? This is so bad that FF is basically unplayable...

    One 1T line for 200 computers?

    I'd try looking for a unsecured wifi spot around the school, as a home is going to have a faster connection.

    See, this would make sense, except FFXI is the ONLY THING thats lagging. Every other game, game system, and website I've used has been fine.

    many colleges including my own prioritize academics before recreation and assign things like p2p, the downloading of certain filetypes and the playing of online games lower network priorities. the only way around it is to register with and pay for your own alternate isp, which here, at least, is permitted. you might think it's bullshit that you can't play ff at college but you'd be even more pissed off if those 400 kids torrenting and playing WoW stopped you from being able to properly download that file you need for your due-tomorrow final report.

    So bumping this thread, sorry for that. I am looking for a way to use a proxy to avoid these ports they wont open. I am pretty clueless when it comes to this kinda stuff.

    Any suggestions?

    When I was in my college dorm, they blocked online games... even pogo.com... I tried all the getting around proxys and such and nothing worked. I had to use dial up from my telephone line in my room in order to play FFXI. It was playable. The only thing was I was Disconnected a lot... it was a challenge in Dyanamis when I got to lot. The next semester after that.. I rented a room at a house near by and was able to get cable internet. Good luck
