If some of them speak English and are interested enough, why not invite them to come post here? I think it'd be interesting.

    TROJANS.

That, and I doubt many would have the cajones to shed their anonymity if they had anything negative to say.

As far as I have been able to tell, japanese players I've pt'd with were happy with how I did my job. I'm generally polite and make an effort not to rub anyone the wrong way. With a small EU community on Kujata and strange playtimes I often lfp while a lot of japanese players are too. I get the feeling LFP'ing with only E(nglish) flag up (which is what I do, cus I don't speak Japanese French or German) makes me last choice for an invite. I wish there was a rep system or something (oh god, that would be horrible, but still) that they could know I'm not a loud mouth rude gaijin jerk. Then maybe I'd have a shot. Also, I shy away from inviting japanese players cus being the frail personality I am, I don't want to deal with any blunt rejections.

I think I read it in one of their answers that they rather post anonymously. It probably falls in line with the fact they hate to be judged as a person instead of posting content?

Just had a few friends read this, and somethin struck me:

Outside some minor differences, like 'don't /check' or ' is an emoticon?' their complains are pretty much the same to ours.

I'm not aware of anybody who joins a meritpt saying 'Gee, I hope that rdm has to go in like, 45 minutes, so we can start the replacements!' I'd personally <3 it if everyone in my meritpt stayed as long as me. Also, I have a strong dislike for being a replacement in a party, merit or otherwise -- how many times you do that, and the pt disbands in 2 fights?

A lot of people playing FF aren't native english speakers. It just turns out to be a common language everyone speaks.

FFXI being what it is, there's only so many ways to skin a fafnir. Strategies, imho, are pretty much the same.

I'm not really going to complain much about the whole 'JPs invented politeness, and here's what it is' thing. I try to extend common courtesy to everyone. I'm really curious as to what their questions will be :D

In the last couple of post people have talked alot about japanese players saying JP only because of language issue, but they also mentioned a couple of times our difference in how exp parties go (they don't get replacements and stuff).

Also, lol @ the Ultra marine pics

And about the language barriere, I can only understand how they feel. I'm somewhat fluent in english but my first language is french and some very few times I get frustrated because people tell me something that I don't understand and have to ask them to repeat over and over again on vent, or even in game they use words I don't understand wich can be of great importance during events, or can also cause drama because I try to say something but it comes out wrong in english and can sound rude even if i'm trying to say something really innocent like can I /stare fixedly at you lol.

The catch 22 is that your posting content reflects who you are personally. I think it's more of posters not wanting their name linked to what they post, just like here in the states.

With /check, it seems to be "If you know it's just the message, why does it still bother you?" versus "If you know it bothers us, why do you still do it?"

I also put up the ultramarine pic. Maybe they can take some pride in helping create a meme, however short-lived it may turn out to be.
Elmer, I have a question just out of curiosity. When you posted quotes from BG on the JP BBS, did you include names of the posters, or did you leave it anonymous? I ask because I found it interesting that they seemed so against forums that aren't anonymous.

Great job as always Elmer thanks for involving the community in this little project.

I bet you weaboo everywhere are throwing a collective "told you so ww" in everyone's faces now.

My favorite answer about having Mixed servers:

"It’s clearly a huge failure. I still want to use a segregated server. We’re not <[ NPC ]>s here for your assistance."

Omg, Elmir hits another one out of the park. :3 I just finished reading the first two sections and so far it's awesome. The feedback is really interesting to read, especially the part concerning /checks. It's really surprising that SE didn't take any of this to heart when constructing the game, heh.

I didn't include any names. I originally introduced myself in the first Q&A thread and ended up having to put in a request for deletion and then remake it without any character info.

"The day service began for foreigners, Sarutabaruta was just littered with corpses. I would throw a Cure and say something nice, like, “You can do it!” and they would respond with foul language like <[ "You JAP?!" ]> or <[ fuck ]> or <[ monkey ]> and such. After that, I just stopped giving out Cures and sort of avoided foreigners. I always wanted to know why North American players would act it such a way. Honestly, people who study a little Japanese to speak with us are the most popular."

LOL, that was too funny, but this begs the question; do they not see that having one run in with one random fucktard should not tarnish their opinions of an entire community? I mean, I have seen JP say "nigger" in party followed by 5 lines of "wwwwwwwwwwwww" but I did not take offense to it and that certainly did not skew or shift my opinions of them as a whole.

I don't know, to me it is seeming the are embracing the very thing(s) they absolutely loathe about us. I've been checked countless times with no bazaar up by JP, I've been that one douche in parties that only spoke English but I don't complain and the list goes on and on. Clearly what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander?

The fact that they respect weaboo over someone that doesn't pretend to be Japanese scares me lol. Truth be told there are lots of people that have "Anywhere, Japan" as their own personal Mecca and Medina, and consider at least one pilgrimage to the sacred island there as some sort of rite of passage.

Thanks again Elmer, maybe in the future we can do a reverse survey to give them some perspective into our POVs and opinions to hopefully bridge that gap further? Meh, just a thought.

Talked with a JP friend of mine who plays FF, and her thoughts when reading it were

"but please we gotta also remember... JP who play FF are kinda "special" , JP nerd have paticular taste and they are often stabban... they believe one thought and never think its wrong even a bit"

How kooky... just like a lot of western FFXI players.

I guess this game just attracts a certain kind of asshole.

I don't consider myself a weaboo or anything as such, but I've tried to learn a little JP, mostly just common words and phrases, courtesies, job names and such... it's not that I'm crazy about Japan or anything, but it's just courtesy to want to try to communicate with other players in a way that is best understood. And most JPs, if you make an effort to use some Japanese, will respond in kind with broken English. /shrug

I mean, if someone who only speaks Spanish approaches you trying to ask for directions or something, are you going to scream at them in English and refuse to help them until they speak English?
