    Using regedit to upgrade graphics.

I've heard of a way to make the game resolution higher using regedit by changing the hex code. I did a little research and asked around, and everyone says I should just need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/PlayOnline/... and change it in there. Only problem is I'm using Vista 64 bit, and the registry is setup different. The PlayOnline path doesn't exist there and I can't find it anywhere else. There are a few FFXI paths, but none with the right entries to modify.

    Halp.

Under 64 bit windows the right registry key will be:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Playonline US\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI

Copypasta from my dynamis forum. I wrote this out to help them, maybe it will help you too.

I thought id post how to do this quick lil fix that drastically changes how you will see your game, depending on how your computer will handle it.

If you're on an XP based computer, do this:
Start Menu -> Run -> type "regedit" (no quotes).

If you're on a Vista based computer, simply go to the start menu and search for regedit, and open it from there.

Navigate the tree menu on the left to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEni x\FinalFantasyXI

You should end up with a window that looks like this:

    http://phabin.noncouncil.com/ffxi/Registry.jpg

Once you've reached this, you might start to feel a little confused, but there are only 2 numbers you're going to change.

In the list of numbers, the only two that you're going to deal with are:
    0003
    and
    0004

These are the two that change your resolution. There are a couple different changes you can try, but I would suggest this:

    Right click the "0003" Value
    Select "Modify"
Another window pops up. Make sure Hexadecimal is selected in the box.
Change the "Value Data" in the box to 800

    Right click the "0004" Value
    Select Modify
    Hexadecimal should still be selected
Change the "Value Data" in the box to 800

    note:
Any Hex value higher than 800 or not a multiple of 100 will cause FFXI to crash.

Log into FFXI and you should notice a large change. However, if this ends up lagging your computer, you can lower the value to suit your computers running ability. Here's a small list of compatibly hex's to enter:
    Hex equivalents for resolutions
    2048: 800
    1792: 700
    1536: 600
    1280 :500

Regardless of whatever you set it to, this should help your graphics department out alot and the game should appear alot more visually appealing and smoother now. Any questions, talk to me~

Before you change any hex's at all, you might want to remember the base hex that 0003 and 0004 were, in case your computer cant handle the change and you can return it to its default.

I feel dirty doing this, but the best guide/descriptor I've found for people who are new at regedits is over at lolwiki.

    Oh Yin, please forgive me.

Onigami I ran across that in another forum. That's what needs to happen, but the folder it's in isn't where I thought it would be. The path fndragon provided was correct.

Also, omg what a huge difference. If you've got a good gaming PC and haven't already done this, do it now.

Windower's Launcher_gui lets you edit it.

I'm on Vista 64bit and had to edit it manually myself, though, the registry path isn't the same as the launchers default edit path.

Coincidentally, I posted this link in the technical forum not too long ago (under a thread about beefing up PCs). It's specifically about using RegEdit and doing various tweaks. You can just open the registry files themselves and put the same settings into the info under the aforementioned WOW key.

Did this, and it worked rather nice, until I was dualboxing PLD and BLM in a 59-man Dynamis.

If tweaked graphics causes your computer to chug under such circumstances, it's good to have an alternative registry file that you can pop in at a moment's notice.

Basically, you'll tweak FFXI twice: once for performance, and another time for appearance. When you've completed the performance file, export a registry key of the FFXI directory, and name it something like "FFXIPerformance.reg." Likewise, finish a fancy-pants series of modifications, and export that as "FFXIQuality.reg."

Once you've done this, all you'll have to do is log out of FFXI (not POL), run the other REG file, and immediately log back into FFXI. Changes made, just like that.
