    Download Limitations = Future Problems?

I was just informed by a friend that Comcast not too long ago announced that they are going to limit monthly downloads to 250GB per month.

As an active player of FFXI, TF2, and other downloady(not a word.) games(S4 League, Exteel, etc.), would this restriction warrant a need to change games / ISP's? (Assuming FFXI's Sending and Receiving counts as downloading, and not knowing how much downloading is done from it over time)

Since Verizon seemingly gave up on my internet after it went down 2 weeks ago, and consistent calls to them aren't doing anything, it seems comcast would be the only other option availiable in this area I live in, -but- if this limitation (coming soon) marks the need, I may have to stick without a game, since 56k is indeed, utter garbage, in comparison to DSL, and I assume Cable.

    Thanks if answered..

Do the math yourself. Do you use 8GB of bandwidth in a day, every single day?

If you only play games I doubt you even use 10% of the available bandwidth.

Comcast has had a 250gb cap for a while now, they just hadn't announced the specifics. If all you do is play games, watch some YouTube and browse the web, you don't have a chance in hell of hitting it. Even light/moderate torrenting probably wouldn't do it. As stated, you'd have to transfer a little over a 8gb a day.

Australia is limited to much, much, MUCH less than that, and there are plenty of Australians that spend all day every day gaming. A long time ago when broadband was really new there were SOME plans that sort of had unlimited downloads, but these days the caps are from anything from 1gig to 100gig, and usually after reaching said cap your internet gets speed capped to 28kbps or something like that. And the plans get terribly expensive when you get to anything over 30gig or so.

Most online games are designed to be network efficient.

FFXI was designed for dial up speeds.

I doubt if you even downloaded movies every day ontop of that you would ever reach 250gb. 250gb is alot for anyone really, unless you're doing some hardcore game/application pirating.

Of course if you're really worried about it, you can download a program that monitors how much has been downloaded.
