Have you ever had someone from your own country do something bad to you? For example, they invite you to replace someone, and when you get there, they just disband. Do you hold a grudge against the person who invited you in that case, or do you think “Oh well,” and just forget about it?

i have a bad memory, so minor stuff like that i usually forgive and forget, but if it was something big like a stolen item worth a lot, i'll either blacklist them or warn others.

    2
I heard that on foreign boards there is a list of useful Japanese players that will help people out. Do you really have such a list?

there's often server "shit lists" of bad people, as for good people, you will occasionally see random thanks on some of the server based message boards.

    3
I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?

if i see a job that i need for a good EXP/merit party setup, i'll invite it, race or language isn't involved. i guess the benefit is what i would see as a better potential party.

    4
Has there been a time when a Japanese player has hurt or insulted you? Also, what are some actions that are normal for us that you find disagreeable? I’m interested to know and would like to hear your thoughts.

the term "JP ONLY" in search comments and the downright refusal to merit/party with anyone who doesn't speak any Japanese, even if they try to communicate through translator, gets frustrating at times, especially when that invite would mean a complete party.

    5
Lots of NA players exclusively use Auto-Translate when recruiting for Assault and other activities. Does this mean that you are targeting Japanese players as well? I’m fairly knowledgeable when it comes to Missions and Assault, but I barely know any English, and worry if I should even send a tell.

its more lazyness than anything, its easier to type a few letters and Tab it, than to type most of the confusing and hard to type place or character names. character names are especially hard, i wish we could auto translate them.

    6
I’ve had a foreign player say to me, “I hate Japanese people.” But Final Fantasy is a Japanese game. If you hate us, why play?

    7
A lot of time has passed since service began in Japan, and you barely see any new subscribers coming in. Are there new NA players still joining?

i've seen players come and go, the general population is the same, but there is always new faces.

nerd, loser, basement dweller, geek, computer nerd.

    9
Is there opposition against the practice of RMT or the use of third party tools? What do you do if your friend or Linkshell uses them? How do you feel about RMT業者 (gyou sha) or gil farmers?

alot of people use third party tools or buy gil, while it is still seen as a negative action, it has more shifted to a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, although some programs like windower, dat modding, and addons for windower are considered good, even though they are an unfair advantage.

In Japan, there are some people who are huge subligar fans. Are there any amongst foreign players, or is there another piece of equipment that is especially popular?

galka in subligar is a joke, so is the argument whether adaman hauberk is blue or purple. personally i like the rabbit/mandragora/worm belts or the costume foods. sprinter boots and worm belt is fun.

It happens all the time and depending on the person and circumstances, i may return them the favor when i am the one replacing someone else or perhaps that one incident may cause me to skip over them when they LFP.

    2

I dont really have a list but i do keep the names of some pretty cool JP players on Lakshmi.

I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?
When i look for a pickup EXP party - the last thing on my mind is "Oh what is their nationality". Simply i am looking for players willing to partake in EXP and do the jobs they are playing correctly. Nationality means little even if the player cannot speak well so long as they can use the auto-trans and understand basic commands.

    4
Has there been a time when a Japanese player has hurt or insulted you? Also, what are some actions that are normal for us that you find disagreeable? I’m interested to know and would like to hear your thoughts.
I personally havent had a time where a JP player has insulted me however i do get alot of cases when making parties where a JP player will snub me simply because i am asking via autotrans and am not Japanese. Annoying? Hell Yes. Hurtful? No. Insulting? Yeah.

    5

So long as the player can follow instructions through Autotrans - i have no problem with inviting a Japanese player to the party. For some things, it is not going to be possible due to needing thorough explanations but for simpler things - why not?

    6

Few people have direct hate for Japanese people, it is mostly hate directed at the developers, GMs or the lame support Square-Enix provides.

    7

Few. I can safely say that FFXI is in decline, fewer and fewer people are fresh players moreso players who have quit and decided to return. At least on my server.

We call them botters Well not really... it is more a case-by-case basis, people like that are called losers.

    9

Windower and FFXIAH are fine with me, the more unfair 3rd party tools like bots are pushing it. Gilfarmers suck, they ruin the game for everyone personally. Botters and cheaters, the few who have been publicly exposed i will talk to on the outside but within myself i think of them as no different from a gilfarmer.

    1)
I have had bad experances with people from not only my country, but many others as well, the only country I have never had a problem with are Australians. I always voy to hold a gruge, but often forget about it in a day to too, just rember I had a bad experance with the perso, not always the details. Many times I find myself asking friends, Why do I not like "player's name"

    2)
I have never contributed to, or seen such a list.

    3)
Often I will invite Japaneese people to my parties when I dont want to have long drawn out talks just go get xp and not have it be a drawn out process, often NA/EU players are argumentative and will complain about to much wihout
giving it a chance. This is expecially true about camp locations.

    4) You can check me when i am waiting to fight a mob, or just ask me after. No need to spam check me to see every equitment set I have when I am fighting a random NM like King Arthro.

    5)
Most people use auto trasnalte because It looks nice, and seperates it from normal random shouts in English. Also I can not spell many of the Area names so its easier.
    - If you know what youre doing, sure send a tell with your jobs, please always tell your jobs if in doubt after hellos

    6)
The simple answer to that, is the person who said that is stupid.

    7)
I know of atleast 3 people who started in the last year, but I dont make it a point to go out and look for said people.

    8 )
    no-lifers seems correct

    9) The gernal mood I see is that some third party tools people dont have a problem with,
Windower seems to be widly accepted Mainly because of the unlimited lines allows you to change all equiptment in a macro, when only pressing 1 button. Other third party tools that do things for you whenafk such as fishbots crafting bots or campaign bots are not in favor though. RMT is basically laughed at, if you have to buy gil/accounts people judge you as lazy or a bad player in an easy game.

    10)
Yes we have our subligar fanatics also, but I see more silly/rare head gear then anything. Many people I know love having items such as event hats, or gold world pass hats or beastman ex/rare hats, like marrow #5 Garland.

Aable on odin, if anyone from Japan ever has random questions about things like this or wants me to explain to them why Burger King is 100x better then McDonalds

    1. It happens. It's annoying when people don't plan properly, but I try not to get upset unless they are rude.

    2. Never heard of one, but I'll start one if anybody wants to volunteer.

(I'm curious as to whether the person who asked that question will see all these "no" answers and think it's a cover-up!)

    3. It's a worldwide game, and it's nice to get the opportunity to play with people from different cultures. Also, when I was first leveling up, JP parties took me to camps I had never even heard about. In terms of drawbacks, I always feel guilty that the onus is generally on the JP players to bridge the language barrier, and I wonder if they hate it.

    4. I got nothin'

    5. Partly auto-translate is used as lazy typing, but also to make it clear that anybody is welcome. For anything complex we can try to communicate plans in broken language and auto-translate first to see if we all are on the same page.

    6. I don't think many NA/EU players would say that. Sounds like you met an idiot - my condolences.

    7. Not as many as we would like.

    8. No life/basement-dweller.

    9. It's much hated, but sadly widespread too. There seem to be a lot of people saying one thing and doing another.

    10. Subligar or nothing.

It has happened before, and now I am hesitant to go to replacement parties, especially late in the day or if the leader is someone I don't know/haven't seen around. Most people will give me a head's up as soon as they know, and I know these things happen. Usually if I'm seeking on a less-desirable job, like DD or non-BRD non-RDM mage, 'll have a much higher chance of this happening if I take a replacement invite.

    2
Haha if there is, I would have liked to have seen it 4 years ago. Now I don't need any help, and no offense I bet these days if such a list existed it would be very small. If a list of NA player helpful people, they would be all those morons with M for Mentor beside their name. I find those players typically should not be mentoring anyone about a single thing in FFXI lol.

    3
I find japanese people are typically well-prepared and ready to go, usually have Silent Oils and Prism Powders, know how to set up a SATA positioning and generally know how to play reasonably. Also, with the times I play I know they don't mind staying up til 4am EST (which I think is dinnertime in JST, around 6pm depending on DST). Years ago I thought every JP player was amazing by default, but I soon found there are undesirable players in both cultures, for both lack of skill and lack of courtesy.

    4
The most frustrating JP players to deal with are the ones that seem to enjoy the fact that they are JP only, and rub it in your face. It's one thing if it says JP only and if I invite them then I know I might be setting myself up for some anger at me ignoring what was in their comment, but when I can't read a comment entirely written in Kanji and invite them and they answer NO JP ONLY then it's frustrating. Although reading the responses from the other 10 questions was very enlightening and I know that more complex events can be difficult with the language barrier.

    5
If I use auot translate feature, and you can understand the basic message that I'm trying to get across, then yeah, send a tell, I've never had a bad experience with mixed culture pick-up groups for this. I even joined a 5 of 6 member JP group for nyzul (me being the only NA) and we did fine; did 21-26 on his disc and 16-20 and I got denali feet yay Even lamps wasnt so bad and we got them many times

    6
That person is an idiot. In our larger cities we don't appreciate/tolerate hate of another culture because many times we have so many cultures living together. Most people hate because they are ignorant, and had a bad experience with someone from that group and assume they are all the same. Also it makes me very angry that the person said that because I don't want you to think that all of us hate you. We really don't. Sure I hate people, but specific people, and for the things they do, not where they are from.

    7
Unfortunately we still get new players, and while it's frustrating when they have sub-par gear or skills or knowledge (or take 45 minutes to get to whitegate for the 1st time), I guess it is necessary to keep the game going. It's been getting harder and harder to find people to make XP parties.

    8
We say Haijin also lol. We don't have a name for it in such a small phrase. We might say they are a hardcore gamer with no life, but there is no english way to say it simply. There are many stereotypes that these players have no life, no irl friends, no girlfriend, have never had sex, don't go to the bar, are fat and have pimples and live with their parents, but this is a huge overgeneralization.

    9
There is a huge amount of complacency about 3rd party tools. Using the windower is extremely common, using claim tools or speed tools or fish bots is less common than windower but at one point was very very prevalent. Many have been banned but it is widely known that people use claim tools for Fafnir etc and this discourages some LS's from even bothering to compete. So there is frustration but we just roll our eyes now when people say "Hey I just found out such and such LS bots." bceause everyone else seems to in those places.

    10
Subligar, swimsuits, and those yagudo heads are very popular among a certain kind of people. Usually female players or guys pretending to be a female player, or just general funny-guys. I want s Femina Subligar for my NPC

Oh lots of times. Its not exactly a rare thing to encounter something like this. I do kind of hold a grudge for a bit, and sometimes I can remember their name to note that they might not be such a good player in the future.

    2

I haven't seen anything like that, but I don't really go outside of BG much.

    3
I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?

Most of the time when I'm inviting someone, I don't pay attention to their nationality, because I've had my fair share of gimp NAs and gimp JPs.

    4

    .
The only time I can really remember being hurt by a Japanese player, is when they specifically turn down invites just because I'm NA. I actually get this quite alot and I find it to be very...close minded? I'd like to think I make very good parties, better than most of the JP parties I've been invited to.

    5

When I shout, I do try to use auto-translate as much as I can, just because I feel like anyone is invited to whatever it is that I may be doing. I don't want to limit myself to just recruiting NAs, when there are good JP players as well.

    6
I’ve had a foreign player say to me, “I hate Japanese people.” But Final Fantasy is a Japanese game. If you hate us, why play?

I really don't consider FFXI to be a "Japanese" game, even though it was made in Japan it has gotten alot bigger than to be solely a Japanese game with foreign players. Also, it does seem to me that alot of the Japanese players are influenced by a few moronic players and then think badly of the whole NA community.

    7
A lot of time has passed since service began in Japan, and you barely see any new subscribers coming in. Are there new NA players still joining?

Not really that I have noticed.

    9
Is there opposition against the practice of RMT or the use of third party tools? What do you do if your friend or Linkshell uses them? How do you feel about RMT業者 (gyou sha) or gil farmers?

There are a few HNM shells that use alot of bots openly, but everyone else mostly dislikes it. Its become such a common thing though, that most people don't care anymore. People who buy gil usually keep it secret, or if they are open about it are very disliked. Everyone hates those damn RMT

    10

Alot of people find subligars to be funny, it is found in alot of idle sets but most people afk/idle in their best gear.

1)For something simple like that, I generally remember who the person is and note to not EXP or 'trust' them too much. I understand that sometimes that happens, so I don't take it to heart too much.

However, bad instances DO leave a mark, so if it is something much more severe, then yes, I may remember that person and hold a grudge to not talk to them or help them out in the future.

    2
I heard that on foreign boards there is a list of useful Japanese players that will help people out. Do you really have such a list?

    2) I'm sure there is a list somewhere. We make lists for EVERYTHING. I, personally, remember in my mind a short list of very helpful and skilled Japanese players.

Hirorinn of Ifrit is a *wonderful* bard puller for example, and while I was on Alexander there was a Japanese player who attempted to craft Zenith Mitts +1 for me a couple of times without asking for a fee!

    3
I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?

    3) The language barrier of course is a drawback. And sometimes a Japanese player might want to play in a certain play style that is different from how we would like it to be in a party. It's not wrong, but it frustrates us because it might hinder the party.

Personally, I love inviting Japanese players. I don't necessarily look for the Japanese over English, though. Just whomever is seeking.

    4
Has there been a time when a Japanese player has hurt or insulted you? Also, what are some actions that are normal for us that you find disagreeable? I’m interested to know and would like to hear your thoughts.

    4) Honestly, not that I can think of. I have tried to give no Japanese player a reason to do that, I don't think.

I dislike how shy you can be, if you'd like a straight and honest answer. Many times I have invited a Japanese person to party with no reply whatsoever, even if it's to tell me no. (Someone that is obviously moving through zones or something, I mean.) It's ok to say no, and please do if you would not like to party. Generally, we understand!

    5

    5) Yes! Very much yes! If I use auto-translate, it's for everyone to see! In fact, to give you an example of something I have done in the past is this:

Most Japanese do not translate their shouts. Understandable. However, if I see key words in the shouts such as 63-66, or ZM, or AF, I can presume they need help or are seeking for a member for a party. I have on occasion, sent a tell asking if they need anything I can offer. I have helped Japanese players with AF quests, Assaults, ZM Missions, and even gotten a party on one of my lower jobs!

    6
I’ve had a foreign player say to me, “I hate Japanese people.” But Final Fantasy is a Japanese game. If you hate us, why play?

    6) This is something I cannot answer as I love the Japanese language, culture, arts, food, etc. Maybe someone else who does hate you all can help you with this.

    7

Most of my answers are long. Very sorry and thanks so much Elmer! This is what I was really looking forward to!

Edited the post to be a bit more readable and shorter answers. Still not very short though.

Question Elmer: I now know Japanese boards work on animosity... For these replies will you be adding our name or anything?

If so, Airenn of Ifrit. I'd feel special if you're giving that out in case anyone reads this from Ifrit. Thanks!

I usually blacklist that person for that kind of behavior, then warn my friends and linkshell of him.

I seriously doubt something like this exists. But friends occasionally tell me of another player's kind deeds whther they be Japanese,American or French. They do this so that I can fo the same if that person needs help or a raise.

    3
I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?

I think most NA players prefer inviting NA over JP;however there are times where a party is being formed and the only tank or refresher seeking in the level range is JP, so we'll try and recruit that person instead of waiting hours for a NA refresher or tank of the right level to become available.

    4
Has there been a time when a Japanese player has hurt or insulted you? Also, what are some actions that are normal for us that you find disagreeable? I’m interested to know and would like to hear your thoughts.

Being turned down for an invite to an assault/mission/bcnm because i dont speak japanese. sometimes i can't tell if its because they don't want communication problems or they're just xenophobic and hate foreigners. I have done many missions and bcnm fights where I recruited a JP player and using the auto translate tab key, we were able to communicate a strategy, and we won without any problems. It seems to me there's more JP turning NA's down to invites than NA's turning JPs down for invites. I'm sure most JPs cant recall inviting an NA player and being told back in /tell "NA ONLY"

    6
I’ve had a foreign player say to me, “I hate Japanese people.” But Final Fantasy is a Japanese game. If you hate us, why play?

Just like japanese players dislike NA's because we're rude in their eyes, there are things JP do that are considered rude in NA culture. Politness is subjective, not universal. Please reconsider the next time you call an NA rude or impolite because perhaps in their culture, their actions are acceptable. Be open minded.

    7

Is there a similar name you use for NA players who are like that?

Is there opposition against the practice of RMT or the use of third party tools? What do you do if your friend or Linkshell uses them? How do you feel about RMT業者 (gyou sha) or gil farmers?

It's so commonplace but people keep it discreet. It's funny, usually the people who ostracize RMTers and hackers are usually gilbuyers and third party tool users themselves...

    1. Yeah, ive had quite a few NA players pull jerk moves on me, and yes, I hold a grudge if it is bad enough.

    2. I've never seen this list.

    3. On average, JP players are in it to party for awhile, while NA players can be either way, just an hour, or a few hours. Depends really.

    4. Yeah, there have been times ive been told to leave when I reach my next level, despite having my TNL in my search comment, I find that very rude. Some JP have done disagreeable things, though I haven't really seen a pattern in it, so it was probably just the person, and not really normal for JPs.

    5. It's to anyone really, we're just looking for help in most cases. This game has been out for awhile, people should know how to do the assault they're looking to do, communication through auto-translate should suffice.

    6. Lots of JP do not like NA, yet you eat McDonalds. Why? Just because something is JP doesn't mean it isnt fun, and no I do not hate JP people at all, I was just making an example.

    7. I find lots of new NA players, yes.

    8. Nerd, Geek, Virgin.

    9. Yes. I hate RMT, I am really glad when I see a new ban wave. As for bots, all you can really do is discourage them, people will use them if they want, and there is no way you can really tell.

    10. Yeah, subligar fans are around. Its more a joke though, the people don't actually like the subligars, they do it to be funny.

For the people that answered "no-lifer" to #8, do you actually use that term or do you just say the person "has no life"? I've never seen or heard anyone use the phrase "no-lifer" before... ever.

    Nice job Elmer!

    1. Yes, I've had plenty of NA players who are rude to me. I've also had plenty of EU, JP and players from other countries who are rude to me or mpk, invite to join party and afk, etc. It really depends on the situation on how I react. If it's just someone being rude I generally ignore it and move on, though I usually remember those people and if they ever need my help in the future I ignore them.

    2. I have never heard of such a list. I know many good and bad JP players but that's just through my travels.

    3. If the JP member is one of the only people seeking during that time or they are a good job for the party I will try to invite them. Usually JP players have JP only, which I always took to be very rude and I thought they hated NA players until I read the responces posted here and found out they just don't like the language barrier. I personally don't mind it and have had some great JP/NA/Mixed parties and have quite a few JP friends eventhough I can't communicate too well with them. When it comes to Exp, I just want to party and get alot of Exp, I don't care where you are from if you have a job I need.

    4. There have been a few times JP players have insulted me. The most notable one was a JP who was mad at me because I accidently MPK'd him by zoning a NM. I tried to apologize for MPKing them and even raised them but they flipped out on me in tell and even said they were happy about 9/11 and wished more NA would have died. Then they called a GM on me as well... Though I don't hate all JP for it, I know it was just one stupid JP person.

The only two things I really found rude about JP was the JP Only seeking and switching gear if I /checked a JP's bazaar. I never really understood why JP hated the /check thing but I still don't really get why some still swap gear on you even if you are trying to check their bazaar but I guess it's less gil for them. \o/ I also always hate when there is one BRD or RDM seeking during NA times and they are seeking JP Only, like any JP parties are really going to start at 4am in Japan...

    5. I don't usually run with "shout assaults" because they are typically "nooby" NA players and don't work well but I'm sure those people would take anyone, regardless of race, lol. I think alot of them use Auto-Trans to spell things quickly as well though.

    6. I don't really see FFXI as a "JP Game". It's a worldwide game to me that was just Made in Japan. I don't hate Japanese players, so I really don't know how to answer that for them.

    7. I see/meet new people all the time.

    8. Elitest, I guess but players who play less usually mistake prejudice and contempt with knowledge. Most of the players on this board, answering these questions might be considered "hai jin" or "elitest", like me, but I really I just dislike stupid people.

    9. RMT are very bad and I really dislike them. I really hate players who buy gil and support RMT as well. RMT ruined alot of the game for a long time, although lately RMT have been hurt alot by SE. Third party tools like botting and such are bad in my opinion. They are used by alot of high level linkshells and it really shows how pathetic they are. It also forces other people to cheat to level the playing field againt them. Things like Fish botting, Campaign botting, Pakration botting are especially pathetic. Things like Windower are ok.

    10. There are alot of NA Subligar fans althought I really don't like seeing men in panties! Women in Subligar is OK though! SCH skirts are even better! I think the QQ and Golbin hats are pretty popular, especially on Tarus! <3Taru, you can see up skirts better!

I don't usually hold a grudge unless it was in BFE or something.

    2
None that I am aware of.

    3
Usually are no drawbacks outside of obvious communication issues. As for benefits Jpn players seem to take bad situations better than NA/EU.

    4
I once checked a Jpn players bazaar and was /slapped and /checked myself about fifteen times for it. I sent him a tell explaining I was checking his bazaar and was promptly informed [Bazaar] = [Japanese only] lol.

    5
It stems from the fact using the tab key to finish a place or events name is quick and easy, not to mention some places are hard to spell O_o

    6
I once had a guy in a leather coat yell at me for eating a burger because "it was murdering innocent animals." Yeah... and I'm sure that cow gleefully handed its ass over to you to wear about... Some people are idiots...

    7
I've seen a lot of new NA players lately as I level SCH, some even so clueless as to know nothing about the SJ system even at 30 lol.

    8
    No-lifers.

    9
I believe distaste for RMT is a global thing, unless you're RMT of course. As for third party tools I personally hate them. This extends to rude people telling me to "go" the second I hit 100TP because they have a TParty plugin. Windower in general doesn't upset me though.

    10
I'd have to vote for naked mithras, maned by male players, claiming to be females. We seem to have an abundance of them.

Of course. There are some low levers players who don't know everything about the game yet. Sometimes even veteran do it, for exemple when they invite a thief to the party, but 2 min later invite a warrior instead of thief but doesn't warn the thief and walks there for nothing. When it happens I just ask them to warn next time so I don't waste my time. If they are being disrespectful though that's a first class ticket to black list.

If I join a linkshell that use third party tools I auto-drop the pearl. I don't think RMTs are a big nuisance in the game anymore, but I sure don't like them

    1. I usually would care less, for the most part I just don't accept invite from people if they're already partying. But I really don't party much anymore. I'll be annoyed, but wouldn't make it a grudge.

    2. I remember seeing those back in the days when having 75 jobs were like a lifetime accomplishment, but even then it'd probably depend on server. Nowadays, the whole JP are awesome mentality is long dead.

    3. Well, part of this dates back to the "JP are superior" mentality. But for the most part, I think it's just that NA players tend to be impatient, and if there are available jobs to piece together a functioning party, we'll just offer an invitation without caring of nationality. I mean the whole concept of partying is fairly simple and what to do is pretty straightforward, we'll just assume that you are competent and we won't have to coach you on what to do. As far as benefit and drawback goes, there really are no clear benefit, beside maybe not having to deal with JP player's complaint or life story, but for drawback, I guess there will be a problem with communication on situation that's beyond the routine (link management, reconfiguring party when one or more member has to leave)

    4. I've had some issues with japanese players delaying my event. The most recent one involve me and my friend doing Achamoth and finding a JP group is also doing it at the same timeframe as us, we got there around the same time, but they decide to pop first, and we had to watch painfully as they waste our time in taking 40 minutes to get it down to 70% before I've had enough and take it when it unclaims, kill it in less than 5 minutes with my group, and gave them the rare/ex trophy. We offered to help them kill it faster, but maybe it's just a japanese pride thing that make them would rather kill it slowly than get help from other.

    5. I think most /sh for events are just written in autotranslate because the organizer is too lazy to type the entire thing.

    6. Because the community is not entirely japanese. It's entirely possible to hate an entire set of playerbase and still enjoy the game. The whole "I hate japanese" is probably directed to the playerbase rather than the entire country or group of people. But if they hated japan as a country and whatnot, then I guess that's their problem.

    7. Not sure, I personally believe 90% of the new accounts are RMT.

    8. Nothing specific. Geek, nerds may apply, but really nobody throws around real life when you're in an internet forum discussion about a game.

    9. RMT in general are looked down upon, botting is considered a necessity for ground camp/highly contested NM and most group just either turn a blind eye or justify their action by saying everyone else does it too. Windower is basically a boon to the entire community, especially with its plugins and functions, most players probably wouldn't play the game any other way, and is considered an accepted practice with not much of a criticism barring some self-righteous idiots.

    10. I loathe the subligars, mainly because as a male playing a male character, it's really, really gay. Though with the use of .dat swapping into female character, it's a lot easier on the eye.

    1. Yes it has happend numerous times, i never think too much of it, as i typically seek with the tell chime on, since i dont stare at the screen waiting on invites.

    2. I have yet to see of such a list, but i have had some random JP help out with missions, and a JP even helped me do the Magicite mission, and random story missions.

    3. I expect the same from JP that i do from NA players, because any person from any nation should be able to play the job properly.

    4. I have had very stuck up JP members who not even in remotely decent gear for their level say very nasty things, or say GAIJIN No, Thanks and disband pt.

    5. I am willing to work with JPs and try my best to translate what japanese i know, and what i cant translate, i simplify it with Auto-trans or very simple english. If a JP member knows what to do already then it makes it even easier.

    6. I am pretty sure the whole hate japanese thing comes from the Japanese Only bullshit that some pull, and while i cant speak for everyone, saying JP only makes it sound like your superior to the rest of us.

    7. I honestly dont see very many new people, just server transfers, maybe when they nerf brd singing in campaign i'll have to XP with some again.

    8. Usually the jokes about people with no life and living in their parent's basement probably applies to people like that.

    9. Unfortunately the way the game is designed is very poorly, so windower has its natural advatages over just the lame ass U/I the game currently has...these are things that SE should implement themselves, even if to certain jobs (TP Party - Sam JA). As for 3rd party tools, they also began their life out of poor design by SE on Notorious Monsters, which no one likes to invest time to get nothing out of it, so people are willing to up their chances by using bots. The only people who care are the people who don't claim (and if SE fixed their NM issues, this would completely resolve this).

    10. LOL! I dont have any hard gay going on, but i am Elvaan and got to like the subligar due to the fact that i am very strict on wearing gear for stat values over cosmetic uselessness, so when leveling Monk, they were the best leg gear available offensive wise for a very long time. Also, Elvaan have sexy, freshly shaven legs if you havent heard.

I actually made an account here just so I could reply to this thread. I think it's a great experiment and would like to do anything I can to help FFXI players of different nationalities understand each other better.

    1
Have you ever had someone from your own country do something bad to you? For example, they invite you to replace someone, and when you get there, they just disband. Do you hold a grudge against the person who invited you in that case, or do you think “Oh well,” and just forget about it?
I've had plenty of bad experiences, but I don't go out of my way to note the nationality of rude players. For me, FFXI is separated between rude/friendly players first, and nationality second. When I do encounter rude players though, I do my best to forget about it. This game would stop being fun very quickly if I held a grudge against everyone who was rude to me!

    2
I heard that on foreign boards there is a list of useful Japanese players that will help people out. Do you really have such a list?
Not that I know of. I don't think there is a list like that for English speaking players either.

    3
I don’t go out of my way to invite NA players to my party, but NA players often invite Japanese players. What are the benefits and drawbacks of inviting a Japanese player to your party?
Language is the last thing I look at when selecting members for a party. The most important thing to consider is what job/support job combination would most benefit the party, and the second most important thing is a mix between the player's reputation, attitude and skill level. For an experience party, the only reason I consider language at all is because of the possibility that the player in question would prefer not to party with players who are speaking English.

    4
Has there been a time when a Japanese player has hurt or insulted you? Also, what are some actions that are normal for us that you find disagreeable? I’m interested to know and would like to hear your thoughts.
There are friendly and rude people from every country, and Japan is no exception. Once, there was a Japanese player shouting in Whitegate for a Blue Mage ability I needed. I used the Auto-Translate the best way I could to ask him if I could come along even though I did not speak Japanese, and he did not respond to me. Later, I send another tell just in case he had not received the first one, but he still did not answer. If he had told me he was not interested in my offer I would have understood, but I thought it was rude of him not to respond at all.

    5
Lots of NA players exclusively use Auto-Translate when recruiting for Assault and other activities. Does this mean that you are targeting Japanese players as well? I’m fairly knowledgeable when it comes to Missions and Assault, but I barely know any English, and worry if I should even send a tell.
If it was an event where I would need to communicate complicated tactics I would probably limit my shout to English speaking players, but if the strategy is simple I will try to make all players feel welcome to participate.

    6
I’ve had a foreign player say to me, “I hate Japanese people.” But Final Fantasy is a Japanese game. If you hate us, why play?
In English, the word "hate" is often used when a less harsh word is meant. Whoever said that may have just been upset that he cannot get Japanese players to join his parties or something like that, and was expressing his feelings in an inappropriate way. Personally, I would never say I hate a group of players. Personality should be judged on an individual level.

    7
A lot of time has passed since service began in Japan, and you barely see any new subscribers coming in. Are there new NA players still joining?
Yes, but they only want to go to Odin because they hear it is the most populated!

    8
In Japan, players that play long periods of time, have many Lvl 75 jobs, possess tons of high-level equipment, and who are usually filled with prejudice and contempt are called 廃人 <[ ( hai jin ) " High Level person but disable from living real life " ]>. Is there a similar name you use for NA players who are like that?
Generally we do not have a special word for players like that, but I have heard some English speaking players adopt the word haijin.

    9
Is there opposition against the practice of RMT or the use of third party tools? What do you do if your friend or Linkshell uses them? How do you feel about RMT業者 (gyou sha) or gil farmers?
English speaking players strongly dislike RMT and third-party tools that disrupt the game's balance. I would never join a linkshell that used harmful tools and would leave my current linkshell if I discovered they had been using them.

    10
In Japan, there are some people who are huge subligar fans. Are there any amongst foreign players, or is there another piece of equipment that is especially popular?
The closest thing I know of are male characters that go out of their way NOT to use a subligar.

    1. I tend to ask for details of the party before I join, like jobs, levels, and camps. In addition to being useful questions in their own right, leaders who willingly answer them tend to be more responsible overall. In the times it has happened, however, I don't let it ruin my day, but when I see the same person levelling tomorrow I will be less inclined to party with them.

    2. I've never seen this list, but I do know on some boards people post about their positive experiences with parties, NMs, and missions, or rant about their bad experiences with NA and JP players alike.

    3. I tend to look for other things first, like available subjobs, access to levelling spots, the appropriate job and level, and an informative search comment. Beyond that I don't care if the person speaks English, Japanese, or Swahili. It's also worth noting that the old help text for "JE" (before "F", "G" and "?" were added) was "No language preference," which I never took to mean that a person could speak both, but only that they were not concerned with the language of the party they joined.

    5. I don't tend to invite anybody that I don't already know to missions or assaults, regardless of the language they speak. However, were I in a situation where I was compelled to, the language barrier would not bother me, so long as the strategy was not too complex and the person knew what they were doing without needing to be told.

    6. Of course, I doubt the majority of non-Japanese people feel that way. And of those that do, my guess would be that in only a limited number of cases is it racial prejudice, but more often a reaction to the perception of resentment by many Japanese that was prevalent when SE opened up the servers to more customers.

    8. Like others have said, I've heard people called "haijin" and "no-lifes" as well. However, at least on these forums if you call someone that you are also subject to ridicule, as everybody involved spends an substantial amount of their personal time playing FFXI and posting on forums, so nobody has a place to be calling anybody else names. afk banging hot chicks

1:{Welcome} to {/invite}. Most times the inviter doesn't realize the party is doomed.

2: Maybe in 2004, I haven't seen any JP lists good or bad since then.

3: You're there, you have sub leveled, you're a needed job (RDM, PLD, BRD, DD spot). Language is less important than convenience when it comes down to it, though I try for NA before JP for the same reasons many of the same reasons JP try and avoid NA.

4: {English} {That's too bad} is pretty much a slap in the face if you dont want to party with an NA. Thats the only thing I can think of. (Maybe its different in JP and not as rude?)

5: Auto-translate is a quicker form of typing in many cases.

7: I've seen some new people but nothing near when 360/EU started.

10: Panty love is universal. Never take them for

    I am Australian,
our Playtimes coincide with JP hours, ive had very good experiences with non english speakers in ffxi, I have gone out of my way to pick up commen pleasantries in japanese, It just makes life easier for everyone,

    1.
It happens, I note the name for future invites, and question them more sternly before agreeing to join the party

    2.
From time to time there are refrences to JP players that are happy to help out people in forum posts, but there is no Big list of JP's that you are alluding to

    3.
It doesnt matter if you are JP/EU/NA, I am making PT to Level, your job is Seeking PT,

    4.
If I am insulted by a JP player it is usually done in kanji, which I cant read, w

    5.
nearly all English Players did not know vanadiel without Auto-Translate, It was mixed servers from the start, Auto-Translate is used by me to simply state 'This is a Group task I have, If you need it too please join me',
I assume everyone doesnt speak english, the invite is for anyone, regardless of race

    6.
Those people are Idiots, Im sure you have an allotment on your side too that make stupid racist comments too, Those people should just stop playing,

    7.
There appears to be new people all the time, personally they are all RMT until proven otherwise, ^^

    8.
Hai Jin is a word we picked up from one of the SE fanfest Q/A sessions, I use Hai Jin, alot of the people that I have known through out the years in FFXI that are Hai Jin are 'Broken', physically/mentally, they tend to take the game too seriously, I call them "Idiots" or baka as you would say,

    9.
If they are Identified as RMT, then /blacklist them, only add on that I have used was Windower, anything else that is used to claim I would tell them stop, or leave LS if it was condoned

    10.
I hated leveling up with melee between 24-37, Hume/Elvaan/Galka male, Bastoken Subligar orz (I am Taru, all I see is ass at my height)

    1) Yes, many times. It's very frustrating, and a lot of people will refuse to be a replacement member in a PT. I do not forget about it.

    2) I don't know of any such list.

    3) I do not care the race, or language spoken of the players in my PT, as long as they can understand and do their jobs properly, and can understand the Auto-Translate to figure out such things as where the PT is camping.

    4) Nothing very offensive. Sometimes, I am in a JP XP PT, and no one talks, and then everyone decides to suddenly disband, without any warning almost. It's very confusing.

    5) I find that we just like the Auto-Translate. I am more likely to join a NA /sh with Auto-Translate, than someone who can't properly spell and makes errors in their /sh. The more information included, the better. I have also tried to join some JP /sh sometimes (Nyzul, ISNM) and been turned down because I do not speak enough Japanese. I always think this is because if they need to change battle tactics quickly, they want to be able to communicate quickly. But please, if you see an NA /sh, and you think you can do the job, ask to join

    6) There are a lot of idiots who play MMO, with bad mentality. These people make us sick as well.

    7) I think there is always some new players starting, because I keep seeing people without SJ, and proper names, starting to level, and many XP PT @ Lv.50+, people will talk and say "This is my first job to this level!"

8 ) Crazy, or people with "no life". We call them "haijin" too, we adopted this term from you.

    9) The reaction depends from person to person I think. Overall, RMT is vastly disliked.

Third Party Tools is different. Claiming tools/Cheating tools a lot of people do not like, but some people think "Everyone in other LS are using them, so we are wasting our time if we don't use them."

There are other tools, like Windower (NA love to be able to browse websites while playing, or play mp3s, etc) that are widely used, but also come with some small tools like being able to see a PT member's TP, or see recast of Spells/Job Abilities. Most people are OK with these types.

In Japan, there are some people who are huge subligar fans. Are there any amongst foreign players, or is there another piece of equipment that is especially popular?[/QUOTE]

    10) There are many fans of subligar, they're scary people!!! Everyone likes Moogle Caps. I think everyone has specific gear they like to wear around town, even if it's not Rare/Ex.

I think this is wonderful I think though, maybe it is a bit important to add a note that this comes from perhaps a slightly more serious group of players, and not from the guy who logs on for 6 hours a week maybe, so our view might be different from people who play less.
