i noticed that some of you break your fasts with all types of indian/asian cakes and each day is a feast, while not trying to be rude merely inquisitive isnt that a bit contradictory though?

i know several arabs from my studies in london (turkish, palestinians, some from dubai too) and they only eat very simple foods like a date and water to break their fast, they wont go out of their way to eat samosas etc and said they dont eat them anyway, so its a bit strange that muslims of other descents are eatting all these foods alien to arabs/their own prophet? in fact most (i.e all) of those cakes and curries etc derive from hinduism and the very sweet cakes that you get in different colours (asian confectionary i dont know the name for but they sure as hell taste nice lol >.>) are even used during hindu religious ceremonies (in fact a lot of ffxi derives from hindu myths i noticed lol)

one friend even said that the main ingridients used in indian cooking (onion/garlic) are considered offensive to angels so they refused to eat anything with those in. i did notice a bit of tension between arabs and indians i must say it seemed like each group was a completely different religion, both groups acted differently and had different approaches to things, i knew the pakistani guys did seem to have almost a hatred for the king of saudi arabia lol >.>

Also the girl from dubai explained that women shouldnt spend all day cooking because that would defy the whole point of ramadhan for them i.e. they get to cook all day while the men pray all day so that means the women dont pray and they go to hell >.> and its also supposed to be wasteful and gluttunous to cook more than you need and lastly 1500 or so years ago the people pretty much starved most of the year not just in ramadhan so it would be disrespectful to enjoy too much food?

p.s. how many of you muslims are BLMs, isnt it forbidden for you to practice the dark arts =)

It is preferred to break your fast with a date. If you don't have a date, then with water. If you don't have any of those, just break it with any type of food :/ as long as it's halaal(kosher).

    Also, I'm a BLM and I over nuke~ every time I nuke, I sin T_T

This is the conflict about Arabs/Asians and being a Muslim. Arabs loove to eat (also Indians and pakistanis as i saw it), its a hobbie for them. Now in Islam, it mentions in the teachings of the prophet and the Hadiths several times that we should/must beware of food as it can be harmful, and to eat only when hungry, and when we eat we should not be full, as in just eat to satisfy your hungry. The prophet also disliked hot food...now, all the arabic food is steaming hot, Arabs actually hate cold food; atleast in the Gulf region...but yea i agree with you, indian food is not healthy. coconut oil is so full of Saturated fat, and trans fat its really scary, and thats one of their main ingredients. As for the comment of garlic and onions being offensive for angels, completely untrue...its quite shocking to me that some muslims believe that.

As for women praying and cooking, easy...get a wife for cooking and one for praying! HAHA

just joking, praying doesnt take more than 5 mins and there are 5 prayers a day, so thats 25mins a day, 3 of the prayers are after breaking the fast, so it can easily be managed. I think your friend is just lazy, lol.

now about different practices in Islam..wow, there are so many, sadly....its all misconceptions and its such a vast and deep issue I really cannot talk about it/know about it enough. In many non-Arabic countries, people miscomprehend the Islamic teachings because of the language barrier or illetracy, I'm not saying there isn't misconceptions in Arabic countries too, but not as wide as, say Pakistan, Indonesia, Afghanistan.

A perfect example is mistreatment of women, as you all see in Afghanistan women are forced to wear the burqa'a and they are not allowed to work as per the Islamic Shari'a...I say PISH POSH! (this is just an example, many other places mistreat women too "as per Islamic Shari'a")
Man, the first wife of the prophet had a job as a merchant, and he worked for her. Also, a very very wide practice in the mentioned asian region is having verses of the Quran written on a piece of cloth or paper and stored with the person for protection from evil....again, I say PISH POSH...this is actually considered an extremely sinful, because the Quran doesnt save you from evil, Allah does. oh well, enough of that, i hope you get the picture.

How does Countries like Iran/Afghanistan view Progressive muslims in more modern countries like Dubai?

Man you can actually see how Religion corrupts Government in those countries. It's not just Islam because in all reality Christians are almost as bad as those that practice Shari'a law. Just look at those Texas Compound Sect loonies. They are almost as restrictive to women as those that practice Shari'a law as far as their role in life what they where and how they are to speak.

One thing though. how do Modern Muslims view the practice of Stoning adulterous women?

I don't know about that, sorry. But i never in my life heard of a woman getting stoned in our region. Sentenced to jail, yes. Stoning, no.
(I should ask my mosque's shaikh; I hope he got the right answer, this is another question on my list)

I'm Iranian and I don't do shit, the most religious I ever tried to be was back in HS when I tried fasting. Little did I know when you fast while on the swim team you become dehydrated

Also I'm pretty sure the practice of stoning is gone from like every country. Iran just executes women who disobey the law now, crazy assholes.

It's happening still in countries like afghanistan. in 2000 the UAE actually convicted and sentenced a women to death by stoning for having sex outside of marriage. they later overturned the decision. But yea most of the cases where women were sentenced to death by stoning are in African countries namely Nigeria and Sudan.

Last time it happen in Iran that I know about was about 19 years ago. But anyway This of course has no bearing on Islam as a whole just pointing out the disgusting abuse of power that Religion as a whole takes when it takes over a government.

Anyway I'm glad there is a topic like this that lets people ask questions in which we would be ignorant otherwise. thanks for taking the time to answer my questions guys.

Interesting stuff. Is it considered disrespectful or anything if someone outside of your religion decides to try fasting along with you?

I don't think anyone would see it as disrespectful at all, they'd welcome it.

In regards to breaking fasts on certain foods, meh I say, meh. I can't stand the flavour of dates, they look like roaches to me, I don't eat them, I break on whatever's dinner. Yummy yummy for my tummy.

I always tried to avoid eating in front of Muslims during fast back at school, but do they really find it offensive/disrespectful to eat/drink in front of them? You can't expect people who don't fast to change their eating habits because you do.
