iirc Bahamut, Odin, Alexander, Atomos, and Ixion were avatars in past games.

SE doesn't always mean summonable avatars..but I see what you mean.

    Ahem...let me try this again.

Hey, maybe this will be the update where they'll add in the new summonable avatars that they've been mentioning for the past two years!

Okay, now back to my dreaming. I'm dreaming of an automaton that is the combination of all of my automatons...and can use blazing sword...

negatory. those are great and all, i mean really, if you put a shitton of merits into them.

I was thinking more along the lines of Break, Amnesia, etc.

I still think a subbable JA for insta-casting the next spell would be badass too. even with a 5-10 minute cooldown. it'd help with blm/rdm bursting every once in a while..

While nice, the general consensus I've seen from RDMs is that we should have gotten these spells without needing to merit them. The only cat 2 merit for RDM that actually expands on what RDM can do is Phalanx II. Blind, Dia, Bio, Slow, and Para II are better than their prior versions, but incrementally so. We could just as well have gotten Slow II at level 62 or something and had cat 2s be something else.
Don't get me wrong, I recognize that they're good spells. It's just more that most other jobs (BLM being another exception) got -new- stuff with cat 2s. Some of it more useful than others, but still, new.

I'd agree in general that if SE wants to push an Enfeebling mastery (as indicated by skill cap, etc), then the more unique stuff like Break, Amnesia, Curse, etc might be an interesting way to go.
'course, we could also consider that RDM already lacks a number of enfeebling options native to other jobs. Sleepgas, weaken to element (AM, Threnody, Elemental Ninjitsu), weaken stats (ABS, Elemental enfeebles), weaken to magic (Stutter step), and so on. RDM's library is well rounded, but it's far from complete.

The general trend of RDM though is single target or self only. IMO, a way to really change up the job, but not increase solo capacity, would be to allow us to share those spells/effects more readily. Maybe we'll see En-IIs in the style of Sambas or something, where we can give everyone extra damage by meleeing ourselves, I dunno.

Yeah WHM should have gotten Light Arts as a level 40 ability, BLM Dark Arts at level 40. But no skill increases. RDM could have gotten Helices and Storm spells. Sublimation a WHM 50 ability(since blm has Conserve MP+Aspir and RDM has refresh/convert). WHM would have gotten a JA comparable to Penury/Rapture while BLM would have gotten the same for Parsimony/Ebuillence RDM would have gotten JAs comparable to Manifestation/Acession to make spells AoE and Celerity/Alacrity to make cut the next spell's cast in half(like Sekkanoki for RDM!)

And everyone would have been happy

SAM's are going to get AF3 armor
    Enhances Sekkanoki(WS takes 50 TP)
Enhances Meditate on a leg piece(+40-60 more TP)
Enhances Hasso (+more haste +more STR)
Enhances Seigan(Third eye's potency doesnt diminish)
And SAM will get aJA stance that gives them "TP Bonus" for any weapon, but reduces magical critical hit%!!

Yeah and the JAs would be a 3 min recast which just so happens to be the duration of most buffs ^^

RDM would get access to Bindga,Refreshga,Aspirga,Drainga,Hastega,Stoneskin ga,Phalanxga,Blinkga,Graviga(sounds like a lot but the recast for this would be 3 min...so)

WHM could divine seal+rapture for badass curagas
BLM could ebuillance for moar powa

PLD needs more PLD-specific spells. DRK has Drain II and Dreadspikes and a whole line of Absorbs. PLD's only unique spell is Reprisal which is meh. I want them to unnerf Holy from back when the level cap was 50 (used to do respectable damage 500-700 but had a much longer cast time) or give holy a stun or higher enmity generation effect. Or better yet make it decrease the target's TP proportionate to how much damage it deals(which isnt much...)

Rdm getting a mini-2hr would be cool, but then I wanna know why Thf gets SA when they should have Third Eye, and War should have gotten a forced crit ability.

Fuck yes, Doubled Crit Steel Cyclone while subbing anything, from any direction, every 5 minutes?

Umm, I'd say the general trend is casters got nothing new, and melee got something new. Though, melee already had so few options in combat, I think that's good and fine. I'm not sure why red mages think an incremental increase is a bad thing.

Curse, Amnesia, Break...I guess if you had them as 20min cooldowns. But I'm confused as to where you draw a line as far as merit vs non-merit. All sorts of melee G2s could be scaled down. Why are red mages special?

Trust me, as a bard, I would love to have Valor Minuet V (which then gets +attk per extra point!) instead of 5 separate merits that give me +1 attk to other Minuets. As a Samurai I would love to get StoreTP6 (which then increases itself for additional points added). As a White Mage, I am quite happy with Shell V, and I think most are. If I played a Red Mage, I guarantee you I would be ecstatic (and in fact, I know 1 who is) about Slow2.

Saying you don't want an incremental increase to something that your job is centered around is silly. It's equally silly to say because it is incremental, it should not be a merit. Is the Red Mage class as a whole underpowered? Is there anyone in their right mind that does not think it is worth bringing a Red Mage to an event? I'm sorry, but Red Mages -are- the best debuffers, largely in part due to their merit options. I am all for giving some sort of Seal at lower lvls to give them an instant cast/no recast JA, but I think the argument against incremental merits is silly and arbitrary. In most situations, I would say the incremental merits are the best ones there are.

A new form of defensive spell would be nice though. At least blink on SCH sub would be nice.

    Anyone ever noticed that 5 lvl gap of spells on sch between 25 and 30? >_>;

Hm I wonder if the new server hardware upgrade was just to make the patch download faster.

Which would suck because I wanted instanced dynamis Oh well, time to fight people over zones in my head untill patch day.

WHM got Devotion and Martyr in addition to Shell and Protect V. BRD got two entirely new songs, and two JAs.
It's not so much that an incremental increase is bad, but more the gap, and the relative lack of new stuff for a while. Level 61-75 has 8 spells for RDM. Prot/Shell IV, and the tier III nukes. We get no WSes between 175 and quested (Vorpal via sub access only). We get no new JAs or traits in the 60s at all.
Now, I understand that this is the typical type of progression one can expect from a "hybrid" class. But RDM doesn't exactly play out that way, in part due to low skill caps in many areas, but in part because of accepted role in a party.

I agree, a lot of the cat 2s could be lower level. IMO, a number of them -should- be, since RDM isn't exactly along in having the 60s+ kinda just die for new stuff. The San wheel could be, for example.

Trust me, as a bard, I would love to have Valor Minuet V (which then gets +attk per extra point!) instead of 5 separate merits that give me +1 attk to other Minuets. I play other jobs too, some of which are worse (NIN for instance). It's not that I think RDM is an exclusive case, it's simply the job that was under discussion.

Look at it in the reverse though. Would you like it if Carnage Elegy was merit only? It's a great song, well worth meriting, but wouldn't that be a bit long to wait? Or Kurayami Ni? There are very comparable boosts that come along for other jobs well before merits.

Part of it is that the RDM job has remained very much the same since NA got the game. Playing it, it really doesn't change from 60-75, as nearly everything you get it just something a little better than before.
Is it terribly weak or unbalanced? No. But it is tedious, and over the span of years, pretty boring in a lot of cases. I've played it since I started the game, and there's a lot I like about it. Doesn't mean there aren't things to critique.
